I promised you something dramatic...

As of today, everyone will have wrapped up Vol. 3 of Slumrat Rising (or, at least, gotten access to it through their membership tier). Now, my deal with Podium was for three books. Obviously I'm continuing to write Slumrat Rising! I expect to hear back from Podium eventually about whether they want to extend the contract- the contract was written with that in mind. BUT! It did seem like a good opportunity to try something new.

I have wanted to write something dumb and fun for a while. Starling, the lovecraftian timeloop story, was a stab at that, and while it's fun, I just don't think it has the legs to be a series. When it gets wrapped up, it'll go out as a one-shot. No, I needed something dumber, something funnier, something designed to go and go and go.

I am a member of several author discords. I will let you guess who is to blame for giving me this particularly vile idea:

Hooray! I've been Isekai'ed! Into a gameworld, with waifus everywhere! It's my greatest dream come true!  Isekai'ed by... some kind of black robe guy. Who grabbed the wrong guy. And now I have to survive waves of monsters that want to do terrible things to me. Just... awful, awful things. And the game is a gacha game, so I'm desperately trying to earn money to pull for summons. Desperately trying to build fortifications. Furnish my Tower. Gear up. Deal with the existential horror that is life in a gacha game. Because even a weeaboo has a bottom line. And the necromancers who made this game? They gotta pay.

Basebuilding, summons, monsters, and a complete absence of harem for this guy who can't handle 3-D, all brought to you by the guy who made theo-punk a thing with Slumrat Rising.

Yup. This is happening. I've already got 32 chapters in the can, and expect to have north of forty by launch date.

You know all the subtle, nuanced investigations into theology and philosophy I've been writing? The examinations of how seemingly invisible economic structures have very visible impacts on the people living with them?

This has none of that. This is just dumb fun. Emphasis on fun.

OKAAAAY, A smidge of existential horror and tragedy because apparently I'm just like that, but the core is comedy.

And this launches in ten days. March 25, folks, mark your callenders and clear your schedules. Because this is where it gets spicy for YOU.

Since I will now have two concurrent books, some people are going to want advanced chapters of one or the other. So I will simplify my life and just have one tier for Weeaboo and one (more expensve) both-books tier... at least as far as the general public knows.

You guys get to sneak in for free.

YEP! For a very limited time only, I will be opening a special tier, only available to current Slumrat Rising paid subscribers. The tier costs ten bucks a month, same as what most of you are paying now, but gets access to both books.

Once I launch the book on RR, that tier closes. Forever. Once you cancel the subscription, it's gone for good. I'm really intending this as a benefit for my long-time regulars. Believe me, your support is immensely appreciated, and I aim to keep showing you that.

Special Tier launches next week, as will the "preview" chapters that go along with it. I hope you all enjoy reading my new book, it's been a hoot to write.

I do actually know Drewels, but he's actually entirely to sane for this.

Nonnyor Business

It’s weird, I’ve already been subscribed to the $10 tier off and on for a while, and this is an objectively good deal for me. Pay the same for two books when before you only had one. However, reading Slumrat Rising has conditioned me to look askance at anyone offering me any character offering any kind of good deal. Apparently even if that character is Warby Picus themself. So what awful bargain am I accepting here? Is necromancy actually a beneficial magic that reading this new serial will slowly poison me against? Or will both the new protagonist and myself come to the conclusion that despite the manipulative and addictive nature of Gacha mechanics, they are the best way to finance the content that we love. Take my ten dollars, but know that I am handing them over with great suspicion.

Trying to think who it could be you know striker from Virtuous Sons? Maybe Drewels? I can’t think of anyone else right now tbh
