The Day I Got Expelled - The Lightning Thief Musical | Unedited Reaction

Comments

me too! I remember rick riordan was actually doing a book tour for tlo at the time and was coming to a local bookstore. i was so upset that I would miss meeting him because my family was going on vacation. But my parents preordered tlo for me and asked the bookstore if rick could sign a copy of sea of monsters (my favorite at the time)! (and he did! he's the best)

as a book fan, i truly do love, appreciate and enjoy this musical! I remember right after listening to "The Day I Got Expelled" I wasn't sure; but soon after was quickly won over. Hope you get to listen/watch more!! :)

I really think you'll love this series, it adds more perspective that you read in the book, and the knowing looks or foreshadowing is to die for!

no this intro is so funny to me because same!! i also got into pjo between botl and tlo coming out - i still remember buying tlo as soon as I could in sixth grade and reading it in class.

It's really just the 'Prologue' that does the Percy narrating his story aspect as an intro. After this song, it goes into more of an action adaptation. Though there are lots of musicals with narrators - Into the Woods, for example. Or Mean Girls has narrative bits in the begining and end.

so much fun

So as far as I remember this is the only song, besides maybe the one at the end, that's in this format since it is the prologue. Starting with the next song, Strong, you follow Percy as he experiences the story of the first book.

Goodness! You've been so busy!!

Y E S. I was sitting here like "does he know about the musical percy jackson?" and HERE IT IS

BlueBoy

it reminds of heathers, how the first song is a diary entry and then the story takes off.. havent seen this musical yet tho so im intrigued

I am so hyped for this

I'm so happy that you are starting the PJ musical, even if not all of it is gonna be content for us! And I love your book fan perspective, because it might take some of the enjoyment of the changes, but is also makes it so you pick up on details and stuff like that! (And it's just fun seeing you geek out about my obsessions:))

Slight fun fact about this musical! It has a very small cast, so many voices will dual voice (one singer even voices 3 characters!). Percy is (i believe) the ONLY character who is voiced by just one person. I won't point out the others yet, because you've only really gotten to experience Percy, but I'm really excited to see if you notice any in the future! Also, George Salazar is the voice of Grover here, and he was originally most iconic in the musical scene via his role as Michael from Be More Chill! So him playing yet another best friend was very fitting, as well as his kinda nervous nerdy voice suiting Grover pretty well imo.

In my opinion, I think besides for time, the Mrs dots bit was quick was to show how quickly in the moment percy felt. He was in the moment, not really having time to develop his thoughts therefore, the show didn't give US the time to fully grasp/ digest what just happened. Even percy sums it up with like 3 bullet points bc he hasn't fully processed it either. I do really enjoy this musical and my take could be completely wrong and it was just for time XD

I'm so excited for this
