Come Home With Me + Wedding Song + Epic 1 | Hadestown Unedited Reaction

I believe the Hades and Persephone myth is supposed to explain winter and summer the two harsh quarters of the year

🔥Enby_Ember🔥

almonds aren't fruits but they do grow on trees!

Magnus Taliesin

I'm sure you've caught on by now, but yes, this is happening in the Overworld, and Hades and Persephone's marriage is having issues and fucking with the cycles of the seasons.

Magnus Taliesin

Essentially they took the Orpheus and Eurydice myth and placed it in the American West during the Great Depression while still maintaining all the mythological constructs.

Kristina (LadyGreensleeves33)

They're in the overworld... But ON the road to hell. They just don't know that's the path their actions are leading to yet.

JR Hill

You going “waaait for meeee somethin somethin yeeah….” Was worth the patreon sub alone to see that early hahaha oh I needed that laugh. Thanks mate. Love this musical sm so stoked for you to go through it.

Regarding the background vocals, I believe it’s the chorus singing with Orpheus, and my thoughts were that when Orpheus is confident with himself, he gets chorus backing (“I’m ORRRRPHEUS!”), but when he’s insecure he does not (“…oh no, I’m not like that :/“)

octo

for some context into why orpheus might have those backing vocals, in the original concept album orpheus always has those layered vocals to sound sort of otherworldly, his voice is literally magic!

Robin

This is basically it, they transplanted the idea of the story to something like the dustbowl era in the American west.

Logan Baxter

The dust bowl time period, or like that’s what I’ve always interpreted it as

Nashira Sidus

It’s kinda taking place in like, the dust bowl?

Nashira Sidus

The really cool thing, in stage performances, Orpheus (the actor) is actually playing the guitar in the Epic 1-3 songs its dope

Lenya Hope

On stage, during "Wedding Song," the wilted flower that Orpheus was holding and offering to Eurydice came back to life and bloomed into a brilliant red blossom, which is a fantastic visual for the magic of his song!

Kitty

Correct!

Macabrellian

it does look like one it's just never been confirmed lol

jayden_arsonew

Looks like it could be a red Carnation flower

Phoenix Mackenzie

My memory is 6 seeds. Fall and winter are due to that (fall everything starts to die and winter it’s all gone) then spring and summer she’s back up and everything is alive and flourishing.

Bridget Beachley

I belieeeve they’re in the Overworld, or maybe a kind of liminal/transitional/in between space (railway station) which is appropriate for messenger god Hermes. It’s always been a little unclear to me, maybe I’ll get more clarity as you watch it, heh.

liminalpsych

It was originally a third of the year, and then later writers (Ovid and Hyginus) made it a full half, so both are correct :>

liminalpsych

In regards to the split time of Persephone, it is half the year. Autumn is when her absence begins to be felt, leaves fall, the last harvests are gathers, the wind grows colder etc, and Winter is where her absence is felt the strongest

StrangeBrian

orpheus actually plays the guitar in epic himself on stage!

jayden_arsonew

in the stage version orpheus summons a red flower! remember that :) it's the one on the cover, noone actually knows what flower it's supposed to be, the actors just call it 'the flower'

jayden_arsonew

Most of the first act takes place up top. The song in the beginning was basically the Dramatis Personae.

Kerri Kortness

yes about the background voices, i tried to research that once and i found nothing lmao

jayden_arsonew

come home with me is my favorite song from this musical and I am so happy

MJ

In the show on stage, when Orpheus finishes the song he pulls a carnation from nowhere representing that spring will come.

Sammantha Lloyd

I'm blind-reacting along with you so I am very excited to see the rest of these reactions!!
