2024-12-30 01:17:34 +0000 UTCNot sure what I expected from watching unedited reactions for the first time, but Mortius just singing dangerous while checking discord notifications between cuts is hilarious

2024-12-28 22:20:35 +0000 UTCAh yes, welcome to Jeff Blim. I'm convinced he just lives in a cage and they make him emerge for wild and insane roles like this one- or to write music. Starkid has now found the formula but they've always been really good about luring you into a silly funny show then stabbing you in the back with feels and emotions over and over again. it's great

2024-12-23 07:18:36 +0000 UTC"that one got me at the end" he said after laughing 90% of the time through part 6

2024-12-14 23:22:10 +0000 UTCOh my god! And the moment here right at the end when Jafar sings alone about the Sultan bringing back his bride... That is absolutely a reference to Wicked's Wizard and I. The twinkling music in the background while he sings is an Elphaba/Defying Gravity motif in Wicked. It's a nod to the part of Wizard and I where she talks about how the Wizard will come to her and say that he'll make her not green. FANTASTIC WRITING! I've never noticed that before now, probably because I've been consuming so much Wicked content.
Anna Hammonds
2024-12-09 02:26:04 +0000 UTCAt some point I feel like you'll notice the musical nods to wicked that have been going on this whole show. For instance: the beginning of Orphaned at 33 and a few other spots in the song is very very reminiscent of Dancing through Life. All the way in part one Ja'Far had his little Elphaba moment too.

2024-12-09 02:01:05 +0000 UTCDo we know when he'll film act 2? :)

2024-12-08 12:17:16 +0000 UTCi HAVE to reccomend The Guy Who Doesnt Like Musicals!! their humor has definitely evolved

2024-12-08 10:26:00 +0000 UTCI genuinely can't wait to see how that reaction gets edited for youtube. I swear half the video will have to be bleeped

2024-12-07 19:01:39 +0000 UTCI think I might be addicted to watching you rapidly zig-zag between having a near-religious experience and dying of utter cringe.

2024-12-05 20:30:22 +0000 UTCAnd two- I strongly suggest Firebringer or The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals, they're the first non parody ones and tgwdlm is more of a typical story
Leah Davis
2024-12-04 06:41:19 +0000 UTCTwo things- the song replacing whole new world is a reference to all the panic about subliminal messages, and it's one of the quotes people said they heard cause yeah it's a whiplash
Leah Davis
2024-12-04 06:39:42 +0000 UTCExtra reminders when you start act 2- there are closed captions! Don't suffer extra with auditory processing issues when they give you an accessibility feature!
Sterling Klein
2024-12-03 05:00:57 +0000 UTCThe emotional whiplash is to be expected in any Starkid musical, as well as the unexpected banger or three, and a consistently killer performance given by Dylan Saunders. Looking forward to Act 2!

2024-12-03 04:33:19 +0000 UTCDon't worry. I promise you will remember Achmed!

2024-12-02 14:38:51 +0000 UTCLoved the reaction and really hope you check out the hatchedfield series "The guy who doesn't like musicals" (which is the first in the series) is what really got me into musicals.

2024-12-02 13:39:34 +0000 UTCYES! I heard it as well, as soon as I listend to the shrek soundtrack for the first time, hol up that sounds like happy ending from starkid XD Great, I'm not the only one anymore who heard it!

2024-12-01 14:03:12 +0000 UTCOmg, the music in Firebringer would blow his mind!!

2024-12-01 00:15:23 +0000 UTCI can't say why yet but Mortius mixing up Abdul and Achmed is *very* funny

2024-12-01 00:12:12 +0000 UTCI am so happy to see you reacting to this. This is absolutely one of my favorite musicals (definitely top 3 in non-broadway shows). Yes it has a ton of vulgar humor but there is also real heart in Jafar and Dylan’s portrayal is incredible. He truly puts 1000% into every performance. I mean you’ve literally seen the actual sweat and tears in this show already! A lot of early Starkid had this style of humor but they have evolved and matured over the years. I hope you’ll consider give some of their more recent shows a watch too. Starting with Twisted, the majority (if not all) of their major shows have been Kickstarter backed by their fans and they really are labors of love. The actors, writers, and everyone behind the scenes really puts their best into these shows. I mean, one of the main writers of the music for this show (AJ Holmes) was writing the music for this WHILE he was playing Elder Cunningham in the touring production of Book of Mormon. Talk about dedication.

2024-11-23 18:59:14 +0000 UTCGotcha! I haven't seen a lot of the newest stuff! I hope I'll get around to their newer stuff sometime!
Daisy whatzittoyou
2024-11-23 07:45:34 +0000 UTCAgreed, they've moved past this type of humor. Good to remember that this stuff came out like a decade + ago when humor was different. Yeah I wouldn't suggest most of their other old stuff to Mortius since it doesn't have what he looks for in musical analysis
Allison Watts
2024-11-23 06:25:19 +0000 UTCI said a lot in Hadestown that Hades is more an antagonist than villain. Aladdin is 100% an irredeemable selfish villain that preys on young vulnerable girls
Allison Watts
2024-11-23 06:21:59 +0000 UTCSorry you had to repeat that. Good to hear it was loved, it doesn't get enough.

2024-11-22 21:46:49 +0000 UTCTheir more recent musicals are a lot less vulgar and have a lot more emotional aspects to it. My favorite of their recent ones is Black Friday.

2024-11-21 00:20:32 +0000 UTCI'm not sure how you'll feel about the other Starkid Productions, since a lot of them have very similar humor. This one honestly felt like there has more... I guess touching moments in it? which makes it my favorite of Starkid's musicals. There are touching moments in all of them, but this one felt like to me, had the most. (Keep in mind, I haven't watched them all). I'm excited for you to reach the musicals name-sake song, and more tender moments in between now and the ending.

2024-11-20 01:00:50 +0000 UTCI really hope you watch more Starkid after this! Trail to Oregon, Firebringer and the Hatchetfield series are all spectacular and you'll love them if you love this

2024-11-20 00:12:19 +0000 UTCi once again have to say that I have watched Galavant all the way through no less than six times and it’s one of my favorite shows so a reaction would be difficult 😆
Mortius
2024-11-19 21:48:01 +0000 UTCI once again have to recommend Galavant, it's like a musical DND campaign.

2024-11-19 18:54:38 +0000 UTC33:50 I thought you were about to say “I’m pressing charges” which is honestly an equally valid reaction to Aladdin’s bit of Happy Ending

2024-11-19 18:25:40 +0000 UTCI would remember that Hero line when going into Act 2

2024-11-19 18:10:33 +0000 UTCOkay! So fun fact, Ja'far's part in Happy Ending is actually the same melody as Elphaba sings in The Wizard and I! Which really adds to the comparison that was drawn earlier in the musical. It also, interestingly, functions as both characters I Want songs, and their I Want songs have double layers to them. What does Elphaba want? She wants to be with the wizard where she can help people with her magic, but she also wants the wizard to fix her green skin, an unselfish wish to improve the kingdom, and a selfish one for her happiness. What does Ja'far want? He wants a story with a happy ending for everyone, to improve the kingdom, but he also wants the Djinn to bring back Sherrezade, an unselfish wish to improve the kingdom, and a selfish one for his happiness. It leads to some really interesting parallels when you compare the two.

2024-11-19 18:10:16 +0000 UTCI am starting to feel a touch guilty over how much I'm enjoying every time you start enjoying the music only for the lyrics to go to a completely awful place xD

2024-11-19 17:42:23 +0000 UTCYou know the ending song, reminds me of Big Bright Beautiful World from Shrek the Musical 🤔 Happy Ending by Jafar inspired by shrek? Who hears it? I'm also hearing Wizard and I from Wicked in this. Mortius, stop making me hear past the lyrics and actually contemplate music.

2024-11-19 17:30:53 +0000 UTCHonestly surprised you missed the Wizard and I motif at the end there. Lol Believe it or not, along with Ja'far, Aladdin is one of the strongest singers in Starkid. I feel like this show doesnt do him justice, but the later shows really showcase his range. (It also helps that he writes the music in the later shows lol) Great reaction!! I hope you have a nice break with your family!

2024-11-19 17:06:32 +0000 UTCI'm posting this before i finish watching, and I'm 99% sure it never gets talks about. But I theorized based off this show only, Jasmine is Jafars daughter and not actually the sultans. 🤷♀️ if anyone can prove me otherwise wrong I will gladly accept your reasoning.
