TWISTED - Act 2 Parts 1 & 2

Comments

I need to know that someone here gets the crocodile joke. In my opinion, it's one of the most underrated jokes of the entire show. There is a whole song from Peter Pan titled "Never Smile at a Crocodile" which is very whimsical & fun. It's a fairly deep disney dive, but it makes me sad every time I see someone watch this and miss that incredible line!

Rel Coleman

Fun fact, the guy in the crowd who yells “I don’t think so!” When Jasmine breaks the fourth wall is Darren Criss, one of the StarKid OG’s!

Bailey Wind

"Arrange the slaughter of millions of innocent civilians then they'll remember me" is giving very much "'ll kill your friends and families to remind you of my love"

Leo Abreu

I still think it's hilarious that all of Ahkmed's men are genuinely proud of him for f*cking a tiger

Helios Warden

Part 2 also having comedy alluding to the current problems at Disney is crazy foreshadowing

Simon Weed

A Galavant reference! Definitely agree, a criminally underrated show. I actually just met Timothy Omundson at Galaxycon Columbus and got him to sign my DVD of the show, he was very gracious and seems delighted that we loved it so much!

David Pierce

I’m sure someone has already mentioned this in the comments, but the tiger thing is a reference to the Wicked novels— the scene where one of Elphaba’s school friends *ahem* “receives the manhood of a tiger” seems to be one of the two scenes from the novel anyone ever remembers. That and the scene where she kisses Glinda.

playing-the-Lady-Rebel

You were so close getting that "Take Off Your Clothes" followed the chords of "A Whole New World", I can't hear the original without thinking about the subliminal messaging anymore :'D One of my fav Starkid songs ever.

Patrick Höll

The Tiger f*cker joke goes so much deeper when you remember that this is also a Wicked parody.

Amp C

Yes 😁🫶

ai-chanmiko2000

yes, it’s the scene right before magic carpet ride when aladdin shows up on her balcony. i think the misheard full line is “good teenagers take of their clothes” and yeah the real like is something along the lines of “take off and run”

teatalker25

i could see mortius really enjoying starship- status quo would be his new audition song lol

Mikayla Welker

I'm sure it's been suggested a million times since you've started this series, but I really think starkid's Hatchetfeild trilogy (which are original musicals rather than parody) would be more up your alley. And I'm not just saying that because Black Friday, the second in the series, is MY favorite musical ;) Like all their shows it's all up on YouTube, starting with The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals. They take themselves a little more seriously in their original work, and while they've still got that Starkid humor it feels more grounded.

Arson

Others have suggested it but VHS Christmas Carol for sure. It's not super long, it's topical to the holiday season and it's nonstop amazing songs one after the other. You would also enjoy Holy Musical B@man I think and Starship for sure. They're just all really enjoyable with such good music (the harmonies in the Batman one are just so nice)

Silvered Fox

Fun fact, the person who says, "I don't think so!" when the princess asks the audience if they think Jafar is right about Aladdin is Darren Criss, most notably he played Blaine on Glee. He started with Starkid in college and plays Harry Potter in the 'A Very Potter Musical' series Starkid did. So awesome!! If you turn the captions on, it says that it was him.

Un Uniform

I REALLY want him to watch either SAF or start the Hatchetfield series. I think he’d really like them story wise but also musically

Mafidon

I can only imagine what he would think of Dysentery World and the Finale song lol

Mafidon

You’re right, Starkid captions every production they post now and went back and did all of their previous shows as well

Mafidon

Yes! My goodness, please do Spies Are Forever!!!

Critical Devil

Just in case you don’t know “ take off your clothes” is based on a line from Aladdin that he said when he was off screen and the camera was focused on Jasmine. I believe the original idea was that the tiger was approaching him and he was saying “ take off and run” but everyone heard as take off your clothes. So that is what twisted is making fun of. As far as I’m aware.

Matt Mayhem

I really recommend Spies are forever by Tin can bros, it’s a great spy parody! And The Tin Can Bros are practically all also members of Team Starkid.

Matt Mayhem

yes I agree! I have audio processing but I also have these songs memorized, I've struggled just a little with the dialogue. The show should be fully captioned, it was the last time I watched!

Skittles

Omg yes seconded the greatest piece of spy media ive ever seen. Genuinely brought me to tears the first time I watched it

Ari_The_Trickster Lokai

BEST SONG INCOMING!!!! Cant wait for next part for the shows namesake

Downside dn

I THINK Mortius has mentioned it before because I vaguely remember him saying he had to stop calling any slight inconvenience a hate crime because it was an inside joke. I could be misremembering.

Seiryunohoushi

Right? It's not the most watched show, but it genuinely has some of the best music of any Starkid musical!!

EngelDraws

Are you not using the captions anymore, or are they not available? Personally, i also have a bit of audio-processing disorder, so i kinda miss them. That aside, love seeing you baffled!

Author Reinvented

I was literally about to suggest the same thing! It’s an absolute masterpiece

Johanna Wilson

I’m just here for no one remembers tiger f- I mean achmed (also, I know it’s far too late for this, but for next Christmas, I recommend the movie spirited, it’s essentially a modern Christmas carol with really great music)

Beckett’s Bricks and Broadway

have you watched/heard of ride the cyclone

Enby_Ember

starkid does some amazing musical work in The Trail to Oregon - and I would also love to see Mortius continue to be flabbergasted 😂😂

Elizabeth Deprey

If it helps i rewound on purpose and still have no clue what the inside joke was

Leah Davis

26:37 i believe this part is a reference to how flynn rider was designed, disney called together a group of women and smashed all the attractive traits they listed into one guy: eugene from tangled!

reni

PLEASE WATCH SPIES ARE FOREVER AFTER THIS!!! That being said, I love watching your reactions to this show lmao you’re so funny.

Scout Scout

26:25 from the princess’ perspective, the last thing she heard about aladdin was that he would be beheaded for being a murdering thief, thats why she thought he had been sentenced to death 😁

reni

Adding a third vote to Spies are Forever!

Masochismet

I was excited for this one. I remembered how Act 2 started and I couldn't wait to see Mortius' reaction

MissDisneyChick

The thing about starkid is that they are all highly competent actors, singers, and writers. They just chose to be silly with their talent. Reiterating everyone elses requests to watch The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals. It is not just their best musical, its one of THE best musicals. I recommend it to anyone who says they don't like musicals and it usually works!

Masochismet

I accually have trouble liking the original Aladdin (both movie and character) because Twisted is canon in my mind, and the whole movie I’m just like, nope Aladdin you are a dick.Jeff is that good xD

Jemina_Monster

It's definitely seems like a deep cuts now but Twisted definitely came out just after peak "top ten dirty secrets in disney movies" on buzzfeed and watch mojo time

DotDotDot

Since Act 2 isn't very long, I can for sure recommend VHS Christmas Carol by Team Starkid for the holidays! It's a much more straightforward, sung-through musical! Dylan Saunders (Jafar) plays Scrooge, but really, the entire cast is an absolute treat to watch and listen to!

EngelDraws

A second Spies are Forever!

Lauren Groen

Woot! Act 2! Hope everyone had a fun holiday!

Takeyia Twitty

I can’t place my finger on why musically, more so lyrically, but ‘No One Remembers Ahmed’ always reminded me of ‘Gaston’

Liz Massie

I haven't watched this yet, but I am just so excited I had to comment now!!! Lets go Act 2!

Skittles

One thing I've always loved is the facial expressions in this show, especially for the princess and Jafar. So much of the silent comedy is in the quiet directly after a punchline. The face after "a song is often a prelude..." or the face when the song begins directly after "it's not like he's singing or anything!"

Hubris

Haha! You forgot that this was written for people in their early to mid 20s 11 years ago. Even if you may be a bit too old for some of the more lewd humor, a lot of the references were specifically made for the teens of the early internet. In all seriousness, a lot of old Gen Z knows Starkid, but younger Gen Z likely wouldn't get like at least a quarter of the jokes. Most of the original members were in college in the late 2000s and their early shows were for a college audience. I love Holy Musical Batman, but it very much caters to some of the goofiness of old school Batman when most people in under 20 are only familiar with the newer serious Batman style Would highly recommend Holy Musical Batman if you like comics, Solve It Squad if you like Scooby Doo, Spies are Forever if you like James Bond/Spy movies, and even A Very Potter Musical and Sequel if you liked the wizard books that shall not be named. Very similar parody style humor to Twisted (less lewd though). Spies are Forever also has a great emotional story which I do think rivals Twisted, so I force all my friends to watch it

Allison Watts

Love that sm

Broody Gaming

Honestly, I always thought of "no one remembers Achmed" when I heard "you'll be back" from Hamilton rofl

Shay-Thelogicaldreamer

I vividly remember Starkid being called a cult when this musical came out because of "No One Remembers Achmed" and it still makes me laugh every time I hear the song

Alexandra

GALAVANT MENTION LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOO

D. Sparrow

i’m also OVERJOYED that you understood most of the disney subliminal message jokes because the writing of that song floors me every time

Lizzie Akehurst

fun fact: the audience member that says “i don’t think so!” is darren criss, and darren criss is one of the founders of starkid productions. the captions even say his name too. makes it extra funny to me, and is a very fun reminder that despite being a big actor and musician (he was still on glee when twisted was doing shows, glee started filming season 5 in august 2013 and twisted was on stage in july 2013) he still makes sure to dedicate time and love to starkid

ariona leilani

i somehow never noticed the tangled parallel at the start of no one remembers achmed!!! well spotted!!

Lizzie Akehurst

If you liked the audience reference bits, you'd like their Trail to Oregon show

crisistime

Yay! I've been waiting for this, this is the best rollercoaster I've seen in a while. I like the background with the stained glass lamps, it's very pretty. 'Those are stretch marks, they happen,' I'm dying lol Starkid never met an inappropriate joke it didn't say, and then repeat just to make sure you heard it the first time. The cringe is strong with this one. Achmed giving some serious You'll Be Back vibes. Isn't it fun that you get to spend your day with tigers and ducking, though? Absurdity of the subject matter aside. I was waiting for the SFX realization, and it did not disappoint. The entire song is a joke about subliminal messages set to the tune of 'A Whole New World.'

Panda Creations

Well the whole "take off your clothes" is also like the SFX thing. In Aladdin as he tries to get her to ride on the magic carpet from her balcony people said it sounded like he mutters, “Good teenagers, take off your clothes.” but Disney's explanation was that the line of dialogue is really “Scat, good tiger, take off and go.”

Hugabug008

I used to love watching deep dive videos of subliminal messages in Disney, just because I found it interesting, and I love seeing references and Easter eggs, so I love Take Off Your Clothes because of that. Jeff Blim (Aladdin) has one of my favorite voices across the Starkid musicals. Not necessarily in this one- just due to how Aladdin is- but in a lot of the others. Aladdin is definitely my least favorite character in this show, but I enjoy disliking him because of Jeff’s performance.

Cadence

Reminder-USE THE CLOSED CAPTIONS!!!

Sterling Klein

I have never been so excited for a video update to drop as I have been for this one. (And then ill re-experience this feeling when you record and post the final song reactions)

Sterling Klein

When I saw this live only like other 5 people laughed at the SFX joke. I am also the target audience for that specific song. I remember talking to Nick Lang (one of the writers) at the stage door after and he was disappointed that so few people seemed to know those references. Though he was more distraught that someone brought their like 6 year old child to the show (despite Twisted being very clearly marketed as NOT child friendly) 🤣

Liz Siron

not you not recognising the iconic love song "A whole new world" from Aladdin itself lol

Olivia Sophia

I done told you! You'll remember Achmed.

Nil Testudo

Petition to Make Starkid Saturday a thing and go through the entire Hatchetfield trilogy starts here!

Cara Griffiths

It's here!!!!!!! I'm so excited!!!!

Evelyn Martin

I was waiting for this! I’m so happy now 🤗

LettyStar

Oh my lord! Am I excited for this!!!
