TWISTED - Act 2 Parts 3-5 | FINISHING THE SHOW

Comments

I’d HIGHLY reccomend the A Very Potter Musical series and the Hatchetfield series. My favorite song would have to be Twisted, naturally — but If I Believed is a CLOSE second. Can never get the lyrics out of my head, all these years later <3

Zoe DuVall

Id highly recommend their Holy Musical B@man !!

Benji

Also, re: Aladdin's "I take what I want", I totally understand why you don't like it in a character who has been played for comedy all show, but I think it's incredibly important. The reality is that it is 100% the logical conclusion of his character. At the end of the "take off your clothes" song the Princess says "Aladdin stop" and he keeps trying to manipulate and convince her ("I know you're scared" etc); if she had given in to him then, or when he accused her of being a freak and said she was making his balls blue, or when he said "never say never" - any of those times, if she hadn't been strong enough to stand up for herself and keep saying stop, it still would have been r*pe. That he then turns to a more violent tactic shows that this is exactly the expected outcome of a guy who has such a revolting entitled attitude towards women and that maybe his earlier all-too-familiar sleaziness isn't that funny after all.

Smee

There's a little bit of Master of the House in Twisted, so hearing you catch all the Les Mis references was so great!

Sunnie

It's poor quality from a production standpoint and you'd definitely need captions, but I also NEED you to watch A Very Potter Musical if you're doing more Starkid. Mostly because I desperately want to see you gather your gang of talented folks together and do me an a capella version of Goin' Back to Hogwarts.

Smee

Coming back to re-watch because it's so good! I love that as soon as Ursula finished her tale and Scar emerged, Jafar immediately walked over to comfort and console her. I thought that was sweet.

Kory Misun

That "slow jam" version of 1001 Nights is so reminiscent of the credits of so many of my early 90s Disney VHS tapes. This version is sung by (now Broadway veteran) Britney Coleman and Carlos Valdes (Cisco from the CW flash series)...both actors were orginal StarKids from he first Potter musical! They CRUSH that love song!

Fredrick McValentine

I hope eventually you react to all the StarKid stuff. You may be surprised. Before it gets too far from the holiday, VHS Christmas Carol could be fun. If you like the 80s, it is perfect. It is only 45 minutes long and could be done in one setting if you like. Since the whole thing is sung, that may be the easiest. Either way, whatever you choose I will be along for the ride.

Kris Shepard

The power in me song that was ringing bells in your head reminds me of Garbiella's solo song from High School Music.

VVGirl

My favorite song from Twisted is the love song. It's so heartfelt and cute and really speaks to me as a storyteller lol. And also, welcome to Team Starkid, congrats on finishing this musical XD

Nobu Akuma

100% agree, I also started watching as a Starkid fan. I'm here on Patreon because I crave thoughtful insight from people who can appreciate shows like this in a way that helps me see it in a new way myself. I've watched many reactions to Twisted and they usually waste my time by not actually engaging with the text and just saying "neat". If Mortius can digest the show for a day or so and give a final overview I'd be so darn happy.

Emily

I would've loved to see your reaction to the pop version of 1001 nights in the credits since you loved the song so much in the show. Love your reaction to the whole show, I would love to see you watch all of Starkid (even Ani which I think is unjustly overlooked)

Emily

Starship also has some of my favorite songs from Starkid.

Jazlyne K. Kirkman

Highly recommend watching the starkid show “Firebringer”. Some of the best vocals and music starkid has done. And its silly and not sad!

Ratatosk Clarke

OH ALSO!!! You don't have to upload this to Patreon or Youtube if you don't want to, but if you want to look into analyses of twisted a little more on your own time (storytelling, music, lyrics, costuming wise etc.,) I would recommend checking out both Schaffrillas productions' [https://youtu.be/0sDuc9Xnttg] and Silvana Ltd.'s [https://youtu.be/MLMTu8TbevU] analysis/review videos as they really do go into depth about what makes twisted such a good show.

Chris

I said this before on one of the YouTube videos but: I hope you go through the starkid catalog from oldest to newest as you really get to see them evolve in both camera quality and storytelling. I think A Very Potter Series or maybe even Starship would be a great place to start in their catalog as they showcase their uni/fresh out of uni years as a group but they have still maintained their original heart throughout everything.(I will say that some of their earlier shows are VERY raunchy, mostly Me and My Dick, so you can maybe skip that one or make that patreon exclusive since you want to keep the all ages format)

Chris

OMG, Never realised this now but here's my theory. The magic kingdom (Disney) use to be a pioneer in the 2Ds (as Sharezad explains = she is the main & best storyteller of course) but once she died, the magic kingdom stopped producing amazing stories!!! This makes me even more sad.

Ryan Ratchford

I literally a second before you said Robin Williams remembered his name and also said it out loud. His name alluded me at the start of watching this 🤣

Simon Weed

i NEED you to watch the hatchetfeild series! Dylan has some killer songs he just puts soo much emotion into it

Caitlyn Cook

"The question then is whether tis nobler in the mind to be well liked but ineffectual or moral but maligned?" Is one of my favourite lines from any show. How to get it tattooed one day.

Bretton B

Hopefully Holy Musical B@tman is next. If you enjoy puns, it'll be the funniest thing ever.

Bretton B

I'm so excited you are getting the starkid hype now! The amount of musicals they made with all the love they put into it - i can't wait for you to see em. My introduction was the Harry Potter series they did (does not support JK) but twisted is so close to my heart as well!

Phoenix S

True, that was actually the biggest thing that hit me with the Jasmine reveal- the Sultans Story wasn’t just silliness, it was a legit plot point.

Brittany Rose

By chance would you do more Star Kid? Everything they do is brilliant, though I would especially love to request the guy who doesn’t like musicals. It’s a comedy horror- a tough genre to do right, and absolutely brilliant.

Brittany Rose

And you thought the Penis Inversion story was just random nonsense. Little did you know that it was actually a major plot point of utmost important. For shame that you doubted the wisdom of the magnanimous. The wonderous. The representative of Gods on Earth. The Son of Osiris. The Most Stupendous Royal Sultan!

Brittany Rose

Man, I can't believe how prescient you were about "Twisted"! The moment Ursula showed up you immediately called that we were getting an entire catalogue of subverted fairy tales. Incredible!

David Pierce

The end credits are important tho! They parody how Disney often ends (ended?) their movies with a pop-artist cover of one of the movie's songs, which Starkid does here by having a pop-style cover of 1001 Nights. Also, yes, the Princess is for sure Ja'far's daughter, that's why he points out that the Sultan couldn't have fathered her due to his inverted penis. Which, also, it's WILD that they made that seemingly throwaway joke actually matter to the plot! They even call back to it with the monkey and Sultan's conversation so we'll remember it when it's important! Overall, I LOVE the attention to detail Starkid has in this production. Everything that seems like it's just there for laughs actually matters, silly-seeming character decisions come back around to make sense at the end (like the "everyone's a princess" thing), just wow. Thank you so much for choosing this musical to react to, I thoroughly enjoyed seeing your reactions, and you also caught some jokes I missed!

Tirzah Hofler

GOTTA be Firebringer, it's my fave <3

Taylor Fleet

i fully agree with everything you said here. I have always found those sorts of things lacking in reactions, including his. And with Twisted being one of my favorite musical experiences, I would love for him to at least do that sort of dive as a bonus for Patrons. Then that could be a could litmus test, see if he and other patrons would enjoy that more going forward. A fun bookend that could draw more people to the patreon than simply having the unedited mp4. Which, admittedly, never is enough to entice me unless its for a show like this, whose music I truly admire. PS: Justice for the Moon lyrics of Everything and More! Stuck in my head since forever and, as ridiculous as it is surrounded by hypocritical conflicting lyrics, its sooo catchy and nice. And is one of my favorite songs I'd love to see him actually talk about on a more serious, line-by-line basis.

Ashton

Honestly not remembering who he was made the show even funnier for me 😂

Cadence

You didn’t remember Achmed?! 😂

Elizabeth Deprey

Yes I would love to see his reaction to a lot of the same actors in those very different roles!!

Elizabeth Deprey

I the "I'm a thief... I take what I want!" part wasn't meant to be treated as a joke. It was a dark reveal. The whole point of this final third of the musical is revealing to the audience that ALL of the throwaway bits and lines were actually narratively important, and it was well established in his "I steal everything" song that he will steal ANYTHING he wants, and he's not afraid to 'steal' sexually either. A girl's dad literally walks in saying "you stole my daughter's hymen" It's played for laughs then, but by now we know that NOTHING was just played for laughs. Aladdin is a truly menacing and horrible person. And the audience laughing up his antics just undermines the severity of them.

[Reacted]

I'm just one of these simple Starkid fangirls, joining cause I loved your enthusiasm over the last few weeks - feeling you deserve all the praise and money I can give for your work! I do have one small productive criticism though, so now here's an essay on my tiny little wish: I'm also a long time fan of Jacksfilms, who is doing an amazing job at calling out reactors not doing the work they copy justice. No worries, your input is mostly amazing, your lyrical, storytelling and melodical expertize elevate what you react to. But Jack always calls out when things fall short, so with the last part done I just didn't feel fully rewarded for being on this long and inspiring journey with you. I missed a full circle conclusion from you, just like the musical had one. Sesskasays, another fellow reactor, includes long personal analysis of every episode she watches in her videos. While I'm not asking you to copy her structure (maybe it'd even be bad for your viewcount/viewtime), I would love to hear your detailed take on the "Gesamtkunstwerk" (I'm German and a BDG fan, forgive me) in the end. Eg by going through the song list, sharing with us what stuck with you, what you enjoyed and what you would've done differently. You connecting all the pieces in the end, bringing even more of your own takes into it, maybe trying to figure out references or to find similarities to other stuff you enjoyed, would make me so happy. This could also work as a bonus video on here, if you'd think it'd perform poorly on YouTube, just a few minutes of you bookending your whole experience with the show. Cause, yeah, I started watching this because of the love for my favorite musical company, but over the last few weeks I also got hooked on your personality! Which means my concluding point is simply: I'd love to see even more of it. Thanks for your work, have amazing holidays, and consider me hyped for your own ep! See you next year <3

Patrick Höll

Youre welcome ;)

Shay-Thelogicaldreamer

Not this being the way I found out Carlos was cast as the new Orpheus

Sapph1cSph1nx

I wonder if the melody you recognized from Power In Me is the song from Polar Express that’s like 🎶 I wish upon a star🎶

Sally

I love that by making Aladdin the guy from the beginning of the animated movie, they are basically saying, since he’s the one who actually tells the story of the animated movie, that Aladdin makes himself seem like the good guy and makes Jafar seem like the bad guy.

Jim

I can also highly recommend an animatic of Dream a little harder by yellow-py, it has a very cartoony style to it and looks far more like the Disney version. It’s really good and I always come back to it after rewatching Twisted

crocky

If you want to react to more Starkid (which you absolutely should) I'd recommend either Firebringer or The Guy Who Didn't like Musicals next

Addy0302

It's so hard to choose a favorite, but "If I Believed" and "The Power In Me" never fail to make me cry no matter how many times I watch the show. Also, I'm curious about how many references to Wicked you caught, because it goes much deeper than "oh it's Wicked but for Jafar".

Ace

i havent seen anyone mention it (might just have missed it so oops) but in terms of more starkid shows i’m gonna bring up firebringer!! very good as well, it’s underrated imo and i think you’d enjoy it and i’d be interested to see your thoughts on it!!

ariona leilani

7.4 billion was how much disney paid

Pumpkin Pumpkin

ABSOLUTELY seconding Falsettos. Perfect mix of comedic and heartwrenching

XanEcho

Mortius in the Credits there is a Different Version of 1000 and 1 nights that you should listen to

DPMAN

Thank YOU for having this journey for us to accompany you on! Going to suggest again VHS Christmas Carol (even if it comes out a little after the holidays I know I and many fans would probably still love it) Starship would be right up your alley. Holy Musical B@man is very silly and fun - I will add a caution that the potter musicals are VERY dated and they're aware of that but they're still an enjoyable ride (maybe after you see a few more of what Starkid has to offer) If you start the Hatchetfield trilogy start with The Guy who Didn't like Musicals first. If you wait on those three to appreciate the cast and how they've grown that would also be phenomenal. At some point Trail to Oregon is interesting but it is one of the more crude ones so your mileage may vary. Still enjoy it but there are others I personally enjoy a lot more and trying to think of your sense of humor and tolerance for certain jokes you might want to save that one till a little later on in your starkid journey. I'm excited for all the ones you do next, and I ended up joining the patreon specifically because of the Starkid reactions so thank you for doing these! I hope you enjoy them and the journey as much as you enjoyed Twisted

Silvered Fox

One of my favorite things about Starkid is their ability to play with what we often refer to as “game” in improv comedy - taking something that is “unusual” or seemingly a one off joke and asking “if that is true, then what else is?” and thus turning it into a whole plot point. They do this so skillfully when crafting plot for their parodies (like asking “what if there were consequences for how Jasmine treats a literal prince at the start of the movie?”) and when creating their own twists!! They tell so many jokes too that you never know which is just a jab and which is going to be important later. It makes each show such a fun ride!! I see a lot of people recommending some of Starkid’s other musicals, and I want to second the push for their older shows. The Potter Musicals are iconic in their own right, but I also have such a special place in my heart for Starship, Holy Musical B@man, and Trail to Oregon. Would definitely love to see you check them out!!

Luna

So glad you enjoyed that, watching your reaction has been delightful! Word of advice, you don't have to react to it, but watch those credits and listen to the song. You will not regret it!

Tia Neilla

i vouch for this

FrankieLacrimae

Twisted: 2013 Disney purchased Pixar in 2006 Yes it was 7.4 billion dollars

Nicholas & Heather

Genie Quote: It’s a wonderful life Citizen Kane Jurassic Park Taxi Driver The Shining Jingle All the Way Batman Who Framed Roger Rabbit

Nicholas & Heather

There are actual books in the series about this kind of thing “A Twisted Tale, also called Twisted Tales in editions with the complete series, is an anthology series of books based around alternate "What if" spins on Disney animated and Pixar films. They are published by Disney-Hyperion, and written by different authors, including Liz Braswell, Jen Calonita, Elizabeth Lim, and Farrah Rochon.”

Nicholas & Heather

Yes yes yes!! Falsettos is so good!

Scout Scout

PLEASE watch Spies Are Forever, it’s sooooo goooood. It’s not technically Starkid, but several of the actors are also in Starkid so most of the Starkid crowd has seen it too. I understand if you don’t do it yet since you’re still super new to Starkid, but you NEED to put it on your list! The rhymes are really tight and the singing is incredible. It’s a little more serious than a lot of the Starkid stuff as well. I think you’d be able to focus more on the actual music, there’s a lot to break down there. That being said, I LOVE your reactions, so I’ll continue to support you no matter what you go with :)

Scout Scout

God, Dylan Saunders is amazing. He puts so much emotion into this performance. I love the other Starkid actors but whenever he shows up in a one of these I cheer. I will never not be impressed that this musical managed to make me cry TWICE.

Fritz

I think checking out everything from the beginning is always fun because then you can see their growth as a production company! I know that the Very Potter Musicals have stuff that didn’t really age super well but I love them overall and Starkid has also acknowledged that some of their content didn’t age well so it wasn’t malicious so much as it was the time of release and the fact that they were still in college or just graduated. BUT if you don’t want to do from the beginning or the Potter Musicals, I recommend Starship or Trail To Oregon! Their newer stuff is (imo) phenomenal but I think their older stuff is overlooked a little and seeing their growth really is amazing. I’ve been watching Starkid since I was 13 (so about 14 years) and I just really love seeing people appreciate their work! Watch you react to the musical was amazing, thank you!

Alexandra

My favourite song is definitely Twisted, but If I believed is crazy good aswell I love it so much. But twisted has the badass backing track plus the culmination of Jafar’s arc, so it’s gotta be my fave.

Matt Mayhem

Loved the reaction and really hope you check out the hatchedfield trilogy next they're some of my favorite musicals in general let alone made by starkids

Pinkustheratking

Yeah, I never recommend Trail to Oregon because of the second to last song. Similar to Blue in Heathers, it's always the part I dread about the show. I love Starship and it easily has the best villain song (only rivaled by Holy Musical Batman and AVPS) but I tend not to recommend it because some people have problems with the puppets since the actors are very visible while using them. It is a great show though and I wish it got more love. In Firebringer, everyone is too stupid for me, and they're supposed to be but it's a lot I do tend to recommend Spies are Forever in spite of the one song that is kind of ableist because the intention of that song is to make fun of monarchies and not disabled people. That doesn't make it automatically not ableist, but I'm willing to forgive a mistake as opposed to a joke with malicious intent. And, for the other song I think it's made pretty clear in the show that the writers are not endorsing the view being given (with Kurt repeatedly interjecting). The ethnicity of the actor who's singing also indicates that those ideas aren't endorsed. It was much easier to watch though when it released and the message would still have been seen as too out there for anyone to actually believe (or if they did they wouldn't admit to it in public). Nowadays, we see people shouting a lot of beliefs in public, so it's less of a funny joke about "how could someone actually believe this"

Allison Watts

If you like literary authors, I cannot recommend Edgar Alan Poe's Dinner Party enough. It's a miniseries and not a musical, but it's an amazing watch

Allison Watts

I will say, if Mortius does do AVPM, A Very Potter Senior Year is pretty much their worst show quality wise due to it being put together as a sort of reunion for a convention. The writing/songwriting is still good of course, but most of the cast are reading off of scripts and there isn't really any impressive choreography since they didn't have the time to practice that. Likely not a lot of good reacting material AVPM and AVPS are both great if you like the wizard books that shall not be named. AVPM is especially impressive considering that half of their budget was spent on a chocolate bar. Idk if Mortius would like it though since there's not much emotional depth in the same way as Twisted. Not to say the characters are flat (Draco is amazing), but I don't think there's enough for him to love it

Allison Watts

Kick it up a Notch is so good

Allison Watts

i hope you consider reacting to some of their other musicals (the guy who didn't like musicals, black friday and nerdy prudes must die are a great trilogy of musicals if you enjoy the vibe of little shop of horrors!) and whilst i love a bunch of their parody musicals and the more modern original that is firebringer. starship ranger will always have a special place in my heart not just because of the puppetry but also because quite frankly the villain song is iconic! also this is NOT the most emotional a starkid show can get....you're gonna want tissues if you plan on watching any more of them!

saffron

The reaction to Ursula is great

D. Sparrow

I think that the Princess’s arc was set up fairly well, especially since the turning point of her character was really when she decided to marry Aladdin to save the kingdom. What I do wish the show had was more scenes between the Princess and Jafar pre-reveal. I think at least one more scene with him being fatherly towards her would have been nice

Forrest

My favorite thing to do with Starkid is to start at the beginning and go through everything, including the less popular musicals. It's nice to watch the progression and changes with the actors and the music and quality. I understand why reactors don't tend to watch the older stuff, but it also makes me kinda sad. Starkid has such a great back catalog and I wished more people watched the original stuff.

Mary Baldwin

To answer your question, yes, Disney bought Pixar for 7.4 billion

Author Reinvented

i really enjoyed your reaction and was wanting to give some recommendations that i hadn’t seen in the comments yet. i think you mentioned that you are a fan of the harry potter series in one of your other videos so i thought you would wanna know that starkid has a trilogy of harry potter parody musicals that are quite good. even if the video quality isn’t great cause its their first show from when a lot of them were in college

Remix City

‘If I Believed in Wishes’ is my favorite, but I cry every time I listen to it. I’d love to see you react to ‘Starship’! It’s one of their best produced shows. Half the characters are puppets. Definitely a high quality production (from the technical/behind the scenes stand point) for them.

Liz Massie

Could I perhaps recommend "Spies are Forever" by the Tin Can Bros.

Jemma Smith

I can't wait for Ride The Cyclone! One of my favorite musicals!

Frog

Twisted is genuinely like the epitome of the rollecoaster that Starkid shows can be. You got incredible emotional highs, you got the lowest forms of humor, and somehow it leaves you satisfied. If you're looking at Starkid for whatever comes next, I do think VHS Christmas Carol is great (plus if you pick the first inscenation it has more Dylan Saunders!), I think you'd also enjoy Firebringer or maybe Starship. The Hatchetfield shows are great, but they're a pretty big change from Twisted in tone and they can make for a pretty intense undertaking, depending how deep into it you get.

Eliška Svobodová

The credits give 90s Disney movie vibes, hope you listened to it even if it was off camera.

Briana Hyler

Dylan is so good in that one! It’s such a fun non stop bop.

Broody Gaming

Love the full screen "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" at 1hr14min in

Sterling Klein

A thousand and one nights is definitely my favorite song in this show and probably all the Starkid shows🥰 it’s so beautiful 💚💚💚

Emma

It's such a good, fun musical! But I feel like you need to really watch a few before you get to Firebringer. Too many in-group jokes in it.

Sterling Klein

If you'd be willing to do more Starkid, I'd love to see your reaction to The Oregon Trail. Oh my gosh I feel like you'd love it

Sterling Klein

I’m so excited to finally see the song twisted. I just think it’s such a good mix of comedy from the others joining and just being a lovely song.

UnluckyReally

I’d personally love to see you do a reaction to VHS Christmas Carol! In my opinion it’s Starkid’s strongest show by a country mile, is only 45 minutes long, and it’s able to be taken a bit more seriously than most of their other work!

Theo Sloan

I love Starkid and their shows so much. If you want another Starkid adjacent show, I really think you would love Spies Are Forever. Also if you haven't seen it before, I am begging you to watch Falsettos. The show will break you and thats all I want to see in this life (no offense lmfaoooo) but seriously its so good, the revival stars Christian Borle (Emmett in Legally Blonde the musical) and other big names (Andrew Rannels, Stephanie J Block, Betsy Wolfe, Tracy Thoms) and theres even a pro shot!

Nick Young

A hilarious thought about Aladdin's retelling being the original film: Of course he would forget Achmed.

Joshua Loresco

While I of course hope you get to more Starkid stuff in the future, do you have any plans to cover Lin-Manuel Miranda's new musical album-thing?

Kyle Summers

I definitely recommend the hatchetfield shows (the guy who didn’t like musicals, Black Friday, and Nerdy Prudes Must Die), but really as someone with the fortune of having watched since A Very Potter Musical was the only show they had on their YouTube page it’s all super fun in its own way at minimum.

Connor Black

I have too many thoughts to share but on the topic of the worst moment of the show (aka the bad jokes that you hated) it's obviously not okay, but I do give benefit that this show is more than 10 years old, similar to how some Broadway shows have similar moments that make me just go... AAAHH.. okay continue

Skittles

I'm bad in references to movie quotes, so I didn't understand the Djinn's jokes. In my country (Chile) a company made the adaptation of Twisted and the Djinn's jokes was about chilean virals, so I got all the jokes :p I'll stay here waiting for more StarKid :) We're near to Christmas, so maybe you can react to VHS Christmas Carols, the full musical is in their page to rent, if you want to watch it full, I can rent it for you as a gift :)

LettyStar

for those who know the show, yes the last comment is about NANSB, that part would get harder to watch as every year goes by

Mikayla Welker

THIS! you're so right, thank you for this great explanation :)

LettyStar

This is genuinely one of my favorite musicals. For favorite song(s) I obviously love Twisted, the lyricism is unmatched and The Power in Me has always been a great song between Ja’far and the Princess but has so much more meaning now since losing my father a few years ago. A Thousand and One Lifetimes is one of the most beautiful ballads of all time. But, If I Believe is my favorite, for how short it is it packs a powerful punch that legitimately makes me cry every time I hear it. Dylan Saunders is an amazing singer and actor, one of my favorites from Team Starkid and he was perfect for this role and love that he got a chance to shine. I think if you are to continue down the Starkid rabbit hole you should react to Firebringer. It’s probably my other favorite besides Twisted and Needy Prudes Must Die (the third in the Hatchfield Trilogy). Thank you so much for reacting to this show like I said it is one of my favorites and deserves “everything and more” 😉

Sara (Million Books to Read)

I don’t think I’ve seen it suggested yet, but another Starkid Original show I love is Fire Bringer. It has some of (but not all) of the actors from Twisted, and I especially love Lauren Lopez (who puppeteers the monkey in this) in it, and her voice.

Cadence

In this episode Team Starkid kill Mortius. Lol. I do like Twisted but I can understand why people have trouble with the pacing. Later shows did get better at that, but Twisted had some of the best performance pieces from the cast.

Takeyia Twitty

You're the reason I started to watch/finish Twisted and now I am ADDICTED to this show. I use the play as my background noise because the soundtrack by itself doesn't do it for me.

Alexus Howard

I never thought I'd be sitting here, rooting for Jafar. I hope the actor Dylan Saunders has a Shelf's worth of accolades and awards, bravo! PS, I am so glad that Frollo was not included in any capacity, he was a revolting being in all respects. At the end of Twisted when the choir is vocalizing, it felt very Bells of Notre Dame, so I hope that was a well-placed homage! Does anyone else hear it, or is that my wishful thinking?

Kory Misun

Everyone's telling you some of the best starkids to watch. My recommendation is to watch the Oregon Trail. It has 5 people in it, and it's a choose your own adventure!

Glitter

I'm so glad I got to stay on this patreon long enough to see this, and be in the credits for this episode. This song is the one I sing the most to myself, along with 'If I believed in Wishes'. And it brought me the most happiness (and sadness) from this show. I hate that I had to stop my subscription on here until we're more financially stable, but I'm glad I at least got to see this. I hope you're glad you went on this journey with us.

Daisy whatzittoyou

Aladdin will always be low on my list of Starkid villains due to not really liking his villain song and the threat of SA towards the end, but I adore Jeff Blim as Sweettooth in Holy Musical Batman

Allison Watts

in regards to this ep tho, The Princess's (legally NOT Jasmine) lack of large obvious story arc is something I love. She started the story privileged and naïve but still caring about her citizens and ended the same. The biggest thing is her outlook on her personal freedom changed. She never wanted to get married, she wanted to be free of responsibility and wanted to not have to listen to advice. That scene where shes sad bc of aladdin being put to death, Jafar asked what she wanted to do and she had ideas, Jafar just didnt like them. But her everyone is a princess idea was right! that didnt happen because of a wish, it happened because she was able to make her own choices and had the power to follow through. She went on one date with aladdin and was clearly uncomfortable "Aladdin stop" she knew what he was doing, but she saw that he had the power to save her kingdom and was willing to not only get married but marry HIM. Also the whole "im not feeling it any more" to "no im just being indecisive" feels sooooo much to me like she was always told shes naïve and indecisive so she went against her own gut feelings just to prove that she not. I know thats technically a head cannon, i just relate to the idea of a 16 year old not trusting herself bc others told her she made bad decisions. She's still ignorant of the world by the end but HER story has just begun as she said. She had some character growth, but shs not done growing

Mikayla Welker

The credits has a pop version of A thousand and one nights and its sung by Starkid Member Carlos Valdes aka the new Orpheus in Hadestown.

Shay-Thelogicaldreamer

I don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet but if you have time before Christmas, it would be perfect to react to VHS Christmas Carol, also by Starkid! It's only about 45 minutes long so much shorter than reacting to a full show, and it's far more song dense than their other shows (not completely sung through, but close to it). The show is an 80's style retelling of the titular story. They added more stories than just A Christmas Carol after the first year (this year is the third year they have put it on) to make it a full show after the first year, but they posted the original version on their Youtube channel for free a few years ago and I think it's genuinely some of their best work and tragically underrepresented compared to their other shows. It can be taken far more seriously than a lot of their other work, though it's still got plenty of that Starkid flair us fans love. Also, that version stars Dylan Saunders, who you know best as Jafar, and who doesn't want to hear him sing some more??

Watching the joy and surprise of Twisted hit, especially the finale made my night. Went from "THIS is your favorite?" To "HOW?" Real quick XD

okay so i already see a ton of people suggesting the hatchetfield trilogy which is a favorite of a lot of ppl and I think you would enjoy it, but that also has some livestream short stories that make it even longer than just the three musicals so you may want to space those out with other musicals in between. Trail to Oregon was suggested a lot and while thats really fun one, theres a lot of immature humor (a lot of poop jokes) in it and i think you would be able to deal with it more after you have seen other shows first. I'm surprised I havent seen recommendations for Starship, one of their earliest musicals. Its basically little mermaid with alien bugs but I really think you, as a tenor would LOVE the I want song in it. (definitly look up more recent versions the actor has sung too bc his voice has grown so much) It also shows off their amazing puppet work Firebringer i think has a good story (tho the ending is wild) but the MUSIC IS SO GOOD if you wanna focus on analyzing music, thats really interesting. They have a really good way of creating the soundscape to set the scenes, and have really interesting harmonies because of their mostly female cast. I think you would also enjoy Spies are Forever, which has good commentary on the spy genre and has a very compelling story. There is the one song that has since been rewritten bc of the ableism that someone warned but also another song i will warn about if you decide to watch that next- just a reminder that when evil ppl have bad takes, thats not the show agreeing, thats the bad guy and it is SUPPOSED to make you uncomfortable

My fav song is definitely A Thousand and One Nights. It's just so beautiful. The Guy Who Didn't like Musicals is probably the best modern Team StarKid musical to check out however it's the first in a series of musicals so keep that in mind. The sequels being Black Friday followed by Nerdy Prudes Must Die. They're not direct sequels though, more like connected universes, but should be watched in that order to understand the references.

Please react to the hatchet field series or at least The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals. You will love it and its also a great way to see how far Starkid has come!

I’ll be honest, I’ve only seen Aladdin 2 or 3 times in my life. So when I watched this for the first time a few years ago, I fully thought that they made up Prince Achmed until the line about the underwear near the beginning of the show. 🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻

You'll want to be sure you watch the credits if you didn't do that.

You HAVE to do The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals! Anything else is all well and good but TGWDLM is required viewing. I was going to recommend Spies Are Forever but in recent years TCB has started to regret some of the lyrics, they rewrote a whole song for being ableist for live performances. I still love the show but you should be warned about that ahead of time. "The question then is whether 'tis nobler in the mind To be well-liked but ineffectual, or moral but maligned?" Is my favorite line in the show, it goes so hard "But if I hide to save my life, what has my life been for?" = My current motto as a queer person in America The yuck towards Aladdin and that joke at the end is so valid. Luckily, starkid is always growing and apologizing when they do mess up. Noooo, I was really hoping you'd react to the end credit song! Amazing reaction series, I've watched every video twice here and on yt

You have to watch the Hatchetfield trilogy: The guy who didn't like musicals, Black Friday and Nerdy prudes must die. They show Starkid's progress and are amazing, creative and hilarious musicals!

crisistime

I’d definitely love to see you go down a Starkid rabbit hole if you decide to. Their shows tend to have a big scale of being super comedic one moment to deeper emotional ones the next. I think the Hatchetfield Trilogy is probably my favorite of the original shows (The Guy who Didn’t like Musicals, Black Friday, and Nerdy Prudes Must Die), and besides Twisted, I think Holy Musical B@man is my other favorite parody show.

What pleases me so much is that having Aladdin be the merchant/storyteller from the original film, makes this show possible to be canon because Aladdin would tell the 'twisted' version with himself as the protagonist.

Louise Rigg

Twisted (the song) is probably one of my favorite Starkid parody show songs (a few of their original musicals actually have some of my favorite original songs in any musicals).

Cadence

The credits actually do include a 90's pop ballad mix of A Thousand and One Nights, just so you know to go back and listen to it.

Spies are forever has git to be next

Killer Wolf18887

You do not understand how amazing Aladdin being the salesguy is. It basically means that Twisted is the truth and then Aladdin shaped the version we know making him the hero. It canonizes Twisted into the universe. It is no longer a parody or an alternate universe. This show, for all its silliness is so SMART

Kathrine0114

Yes, that was the actual amount Disney bought Pixar for. 7.4 Billion dollars (and this was after them buying Pixar, that was back in 2006)

Gael

I would be so down for starkid Saturdays

Ari_The_Trickster Lokai

I want to point out how ja'far basically contrasts every character in this show, he contrasts the princess and kingdom at large with his view point of realism vs wishfulness. He contrasts achmed, on his views of lagacy, one being willing to kill millions to be remembered good the other willing to look twisted to save them. He contrasts the sultan in his work ethic And lastly he contrasts Aladdin, period they are complete opposites anything or value one has the other is 180 degrees different

YES! FINALLY THE TWISTED SONG! I'm so glad you did this series! Absolutely Starkid's best work. My only hangup is you didn't keep the video playing long enough to hear the end credits version of "A Thousand and One Nights". In classic disney fashion, they do a Cover of one of their songs through the end credits.

Joshua Loresco

Leave it to starkid to have an inverted dick joke be one of the most important details that change the dynamic and the way you view the relationship between two main characters.

annnnd ur done with ur first starkid musical!! congrats and condolences ❤️ i’ll probably echo a lot of people and recommend checking out ‘the guy who didn’t like musicals’ trilogy next :)) it’s their most recent works, and has much better budget/story planning etc, and i’ll think you’d greatly enjoy the music. Don’t be intimidated by the ‘trilogy’ aspect, they’re all loosely linked but it’s much more of a ‘this all existed in the same universe’ over a ‘part 1, 2 and 3’. If you’re not interested in delving into that whole universe yet though, ‘Firebringer’ and ‘The Trail to Oregon’ have my votes :)) they’re were released around the similar time as Twisted, so you see a lot of the same cast!

Ari.g

Holy Musical Batman! So glad you enjoyed the story of Ja'far, and perhaps, like many of us, you'll come to think of this as the true tale, and the Disney version as the twisted retelling of an old salesman, who, once upon a time, may have been a thief. (And that is technically canon!)

Faeolin the Wild Elf

I joined Patreon so that I could see your reaction to this show specifically as soon as possible. I love the Starkid and TCB people and shows so much, I really hope you keep going on their shows. Then I got into your other reactions and series and you've made me want to stay! (Not sure if I will financially be able to, but if I can I will)

Critical Devil

So happy for this!! you want evil and/or crazy, no one is better than Jeff Blim (Aladdin) I swear to everything he is masterful in these roles!!

Repressed Trauma

Oh, and my favourite song from Twisted is probably Happy Ending or just, you know, Twisted 🥹 BUT I really enjoy all the songs!

EngelDraws

can recommend The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals or for Christmas, once again, The VHS Christmas Carol by Team Starkid, it's seriously my favourite musical of their!

EngelDraws

BEST SONG EVER!!!!

Downside dn

if you do more starkid, The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals is great

GrayMorality

Yay! I’ve been looking forward to this and parts 3-5?! Haha wasn’t expecting all the rest at once 😄

Emma

I never saw the title song like that. I thought of it more as a, "the winner gets to tell the story" sort of deal

Snoozey Bear

For Starkid or Starkid-adjacent musicals (a lot of the same folks), I highly recommend either Spies Are Forever or The Man Who Didn't Like Musicals!
