2024-02-26 07:42:58 +0000 UTCI agree about Zuko being a bit too whiny, and especially the corny dialogue. It seems like every other scene has Aang vocalizing his worry about being the avatar, and I think it’s just a bit excessive. However, I actually really enjoyed the Sokka/Suki moments. I don’t think the story needed Sokka to be sexist, especially when it was really only prevalent in two episodes of the original show (1x01 and 1x04). I think they still managed to convey his growing respect for Suki’s skills as a warrior. As for the bit of added backstory for Suki, I think it was just enough to help establish her appearance in season 2, assuming it gets greenlit.

2024-02-24 18:02:17 +0000 UTCI think the rougher dialogue problems are due to supposedly they had originally scripted the show in a way that anticipated people watched the original show. Then they were forced to re-write late in the process to make it more accessible to new fans. So I can forgive some of those issues if that’s the case. Plus since they’re laying down thick world building work, so later seasons can focus just of the people on screen rather than world building. But imo, that’s a minor complaint and everything else they’re doing a great job! I must the only person that likes Sokka being a more subtle, quiet sexism. If he was all “women? Warriors? That’s a contradiction!” Suki would just sent him into the spirit world outright. Wasn’t until I watched along with you two that I realized they really didn’t have ANY guys around Suki’s age on the island. Her peak flirting really was “you like boomerang? I got a boomerang”

I will eventually watch the Animation, but I'm glad I didn't watch the animation so I have no comparison. I have watched one full episode of the animated series and then parts of it while housemates watched it. Maybe after I finish the Netflix Avatar, I will watch the animation. Anyway, I'm continuing my watch along with you guys because I know nothing, so your comments help me understand a few things.
