Because he grew up Catholic, the nuns of the church he went to took him in instead of the state taking him into the foster system. This is how old school orphanges used to work. The church gets money from the state for it and the children are raised by the church until they are 18 (used to be 14).

2020-10-21 22:31:11 +0000 UTCI think they are calling him the devil because of how he is acting, violent, punishing evil doers, etc, not due to how he looks. They probably came up with the name "devil" because he is operating in a section of the city called "Hell's Kitchen." Hell, devil, get it?
