yeah like it was said this is closer to the older version or some newer where they are from egypt sometimes versions have them from thanagar or will combine it and have them reincarnated and the newest reincarnation is them from thangar. This is just leaving out thanager and also combining vandal savage with hath-set. Koufu and Shay-era are their egyptian names and carter and kendra are their modern day names in their new bodies before they emergered and remember who they are then they go by both names. not really hard to follow if you know the comics and pay attention to the show. the nth metal and meteors are the only thangarian stuff thats brought in

Haven't watched it yet but is this the episode where Felicity has a hissy fit because when Oliver found out about his son he didn't immediately go and tell her despite only finding out about him earlier that day?

Doesn't really make sense that someone who has lived for thousands of years would be named Carter.....

It's different than the modern origin but it's pretty darn close to the original golden age origin. The addition of Vandal Savage to the story is an interesting change IMO.

Savage is mixed with Hath-Set in this universe to tie him closely to the Hawks

BTW, they did change the origin story here for Vandal Savage, and Hawk Man and Hark Girl. I don't like it either. But this is definiatly a completely different origin for all of them. Vandal Savage originally came from the dawn of man as a species, not Egypt. He's from the beginning of humans. But they changed everything here for this show, and I'm not happy about it either.

Shannon, you do realize that Egypt is located in Africa. Perhaps you need to look up history, and geography. There were slaves, but they were not always black people, in fact slavery of people existed long before that, as someone else indicated here a lot of disagreements were between cultures and religions, not necessarily skin color back then. There would be dark skinned people all over that area, considering it is in Africa.

And that’s why it’s insulting that Egypt is consistently portrayed as white even in here where they had Kendra black and they tried to make all the other white actors look more “Egyptian” with the makeup and clothing.

It depends on what time period you are talking about. Remember, Egypt lasted for thousands of years.
However, the origin story they are using for Hawkman/Hawkgirl in the show puts them in the time of Ramesses II, which is around 1200 BCE.
Based on Egyptology/anthropology, the ruling class of Egypt of that time period would be close to middle-eastern in appearance (the same as most modern day Egyptians). Of course, there were darker skin people, and lighter skin people in Egypt (it was a large empire, that lasted for a long time), the ruling class at that time was not as diverse as the population. As an example, Dynasties were some of the most inbred humans who have ever lived, with sibling marriages common. Remember, Pharohs were seen as living gods, and you can't have a god marry some normal human.
There were other time periods where darker skin people ruled, or lighter skin people ruled. Not because of skin color, just that some dynasties were from the southern parts of Egypt, others from the north, and after Alexander the Great, the ruling class of Egypt were Greek.

Racism didn't really rear its head in the modern sense until the last few hundred years, before that it was more about cultural and spiritual differences rather than skin tone

Mainstream scholars reject the notion that Egypt was a white or black civilization; they maintain that, despite the phenotypic diversity of Ancient and present day Egyptians, applying modern notions of black or white races to ancient Egypt is anachronistic. In addition, scholars reject the notion, implicit in the notion of a black or white Egypt hypothesis, that Ancient Egypt was racially homogeneous; instead, skin color varied between the peoples of Lower Egypt, Upper Egypt, and Nubia, who in various eras rose to power in Ancient Egypt.
