What's coming down the pipe:
Added 2017-06-15 19:53:32 +0000 UTCThe last 24 hours have been nuts. Mostly in good ways. As such, I wanted to take a minute to kind of explain what all is going on and what to expect moving forward:
The Allure of Wanton Cove:
The Allure of Wanton Cove is coming along nicely. With two more updates, I hope to push the game into Day 7, at which point things will progress quickly. My best guess right now is 6-8 builds before the game is COMPLETE.
Once the game is complete, we will be replacing it on the active release rotation with Aftermath.
Just because the game is "complete" will not mean that we are done with the game however. It will no longer be on the regular release schedule, but I hope to occasionally come back to the game and add additional scenes and side stories. Basically it becomes a little diversion whenever the mood strikes.
Inheritance:
We hope to have this one up and running before Wanton Cove is complete, though we do not yet have an official release date. We currently have a working test build that I intend to upload for testers later today that includes the random event stuff.
With the random event stuff complete, the next step will be to put together the NPC mechanics then implement the clothing/item system. After those things are done, it should just be a matter of adding all the content that has been written to the game and it can be added to the regular release schedule. I have a very talented coder who is helping get Inheritance up and running, though their time is limited. As of yesterday, I have a second coder who is helping out who has already proven themself to be competent. I currently have the second coder working on Aftermath, though when they reach the NPC content, if Inheritance still needs work, I'll shift them that direction for a little while to get it up and running.
Aftermath:
The new coder who volunteered yesterday is starting to look VERY promising. They've already spent quite a bit of time familiarizing themself with the code in both Inheritance and Aftermath and they have figured out how code works in a couple of hours that I'd barely started to understand after gawking at it for more than a year now.
I've set the new coder to work on Aftermath, and they've already started making headway. (Figured that if they work out, it gives a head start on an upcoming project. If they dont, its a project that isn't in active development yet, so it wont hurt anything if things fall through.) They've already found several bugs in the code that they have fixed and are now hard at work on the "Merchant" mechanic for the game (Which will be adapted to work in other Aftermath Team games as well). Next up will be NPCs, so if they get that far before the Inheritance coder is done with NPCs, I'll send the new guy over there to lend a hand and get the game up and running.
Once all of the mechanical stuff is in place, there's more than enough content to justify an alpha release. My hope is that we can have a first release for this ready to go by the time Wanton Cove is complete.
The short version:
-Wanton Cove is coming along nicely. Will hopefully be complete by year's end. Next test build will be this weekend. Next public/patron build will be late this coming week (22nd-24th). I hope to release a new build every 3 weeks (Give or take) of this project until complete.
-Inheritance is slow but steady. Random events seem to be working. Next up is NPCs and related content. If the new coder works out, I'll likely send them to help out with the code to give this a little push. Next test build should be out later today for tester level patrons. I plan to release the "Events" build to Patrons the last week of this month, and the "Movement" build you all currently have access to will go public at that time.
-Aftermath has a TON of content written for it from back when we were working on it about a year ago (Guess its been more than that now.) Our new coder has been turned loose on this front and is hard at work. They will be working on this on the side for the time being while I invest my time primarily into Wanton Cove . Goal is to have this game up and ready for release by the time Wanton Cove is complete. I have no plans to start writing new content for this until Wanton Cove is done.
-Looks like tomorrow will be a work day. Will try to get another scene or two done for Wanton Cove then turn it over to testers. Rest of the weekend should be largely open, will likely split my time between Wanton Cove and Inheritance.
Comments
The first six days of the game includes a lot of buildup and laying the ground work for what is to come. The next four is where things really hit the fan, . . . Presently, there is only one Madness scene in the game, though more will be forthcoming. There is also the Mutation stat that can lead to several bad ends which you can build up by loosing fights in the "Hybrid" fights.
