No Nutcracker November
Added 2023-11-05 15:33:57 +0000 UTCWelcome to (N-N)November!
The worst month of the year for a spicy dev? I don't know, we'll see, we'll see.
Anyway, the current development status looks like this:
There's a new update as you might've noticed—just a small one to start things off for the month. At the moment, Barrel has one more companion quest coming right up, before I circle back to the main plot.
Story wise, I think the near future will focus on Priestess becoming increasingly concerned with the protagonists growing debt, and search for some solutions. There might be some drama at Cow/Farm girl's farm, involving a certain gang of goblins. At some point the townspeople will discover the protagonists true preferences, and they might decide to hold some form of intervention. A pretty vague roadmap, but also, don't wanna spoil too much.
Speaking of roadmaps, there's also alternative paths to be explored at some point in the future. In no particular order, I got at least two more Goblin-related quests up north, revolving around getting swole and metal. To the South lives the Catgirl tribes, and at some point they're gonna need some help from a Goblin-professional. And then there's the missing men. No, I didn't forget about that particular plotline (I kinda did) and no, it wasn't just an excuse to set up an all-female town (it kinda was). Yes, I've actually got something planned, including a spectacular "boss""fight".
I guess we can set up a vote a bit later, to check what you'll want to see prioritized.
Also: my quest to learn Blender continues. I'm currently working on remaking the characters with Blender-compatible assets, which is gonna take some time, but once all the assets libraries are set up and so on, it'll probably save me time in the long run. Plus physics, animation and just overall model quality and smoothness be a major step up from my current jury-rigged mess. Will post a few very early preview pics of Blender Priestess on Discord.
Also II: I have a short spin-off planned. A kind of Goblin Layer cyberpunk parody, probably VN-ish, maybe even in Renpy.
Don't worry though, this is >not< me dumping Goblin Layer in favor of a new project. The idea is that I'll use this mini-spinoff as a practice project.
I'll use Blender for all the rendering in said project. The skills which I (hopefully) develop can then be used back in the Main Game - Goblin Layer. Those of you who played the very early versions the game probably remember the old original renders, there's still a bunch left in the game. I ended up remaking a lot of them, as I learned new things and gradually upgraded my assets (like textures, shaders etc). I'm expecting the same gradual improvements to happen with Blender.
Now, imagine me remaking all the art in Goblin Layer with Blender, improving my Blender skills in the process, and then in the end realize I wanna remake everything all over again with the new techniques I've learned - a clusterfuck of a situation, and here's where the practice project saves the day. The 'Goblinpunk' game would hopefully let me get good enough to use Blender for Goblin Layer.
But in any case, the spinoff is still pretty far off, I've just sketched out a rough story, and written down a lot of dumb ideas, and now my 3D skills gotta improve enough to actually create it.
End of rant, and as always, thank you for all your support! Right now Goblin Layer development will continue as usual, in RpgMaker as usual, and with the same ol' models as usual!
