DISTRESSED DAMSELS: Rose vs. smartrope, plus roughs reused for EMPOWERED
Added 2021-07-07 13:01:05 +0000 UTCThe first two pages above are a commissioned story fragment from 2002 or so featuring Dirty Pair's Kei—er, no, Rose running afoul of futuristic bondage tech. For DP DiD one-offs like this (and for the series proper, as seen in DP: Run from the Future) I worked out many, many ways that ultra-tech gear could be used to non-lethally incapacitate and/or restrain targets, with many of those concepts later seeing reuse in Empowered as techy, damsel-distressing hardware from the piratically themed goofballs Advanced Restraint Research (ARR!).
The successive two rough pages are from another story fragment that never got to the finished pencils stage, from a tragic tale of Rose running afoul of yet more futuristic bondage tech—in this case, a restraint drone disguised as a child. Admittedly, it's not all that easy to interpret from my rough scrawls what was supposed to be going on in this sequence; ah, but when I reused this concept and some of the roughs for the first ARR! story in Empowered vol.3 (as seen in the last two jpegs), the storytelling wound up notably clearer. Yay!
