DESIGN TUESDAY: Character designs for EMPOWERED vol.9, pt.4
Added 2021-01-26 14:01:01 +0000 UTCFor most of my time on Empowered, I would produce, at best, a quick sketch of a new character before drawing a comic page; often, in fact, I would just design new capes on the actual page. ("Just in time" character design, I suppose.)
However, Empowered vol.9 featured so many new characters during Emp's book-long run through a gauntlet of supervillains that I sat down and cranked out twenty-odd pages worth of chara designs before work on the main plotline got underway.
Wellp, here's the next set of said design sketches, folks, along with jpegs of pages they appeared on.
Note that the updated, female "S**thouse Rat" never appeared in the published version of vol.9, but can be seen on the original, unused cover illo for the book (at lower right):
Ah, there's a potential post for ya; I'll have to show you folks the work stages on this cover sometime, and discuss why I didn't use it.
Anyhoo, the idea was that S**thouse Rat was a "new generation" version of the deceased superhero seen in the "cape graveyard" setting of the one-shot Empowered: The Wench with a Million Sighs:
Alas, I had to cut the new "SR" from both vol.9's story and its cover.
Next week, more Empowered vol. 9 chara designs. Yay!
TOMORROW ON THIS HERE PATREON: More Distressed Damsel content for the $5+ tiers, though at present I have no idea what that content might be. (Trying to get ahead on Empowered vol.12 production is proving to be a bit of a challenge with weekdaily Patreon posting, alas.)
