Good reaction, they are another hugely influential band. The Cure are definitely rock, Rock has many sub genres , the ones you are probably familiar with and are associating with rock are Hard Rock, and Heavy metal bands like Metallica. The Cure would fall under Post Punk, Alternative Rock and New Wave. Tim Burton was massively influenced by Robert Smith's (lead singers) style. He is a massive fan of The Cure and has said that Edward Scissor hands was based on Robert Smith's look.
