Patreon Reopening Announcement! Changes Inside!

So it's been a while. Between the chaos of moving and the pandemic, we've been busy. I think I hit a stretch of burnout there, too, because there was a period for a few months where I just didn't draw anything, even for myself. This last month I've been trying to shake off the rust and produce art again. Even if it's only a couple of birthday pictures, I was able to get moving and produce some artwork - and the last week I've really been considering my Patreon's future. So here's the verdict:
Starting in September, I will be re-opening my Patreon, with a few changes:
- I am going to be replacing the Patron's Choice system with a suggestion box system. Patrons at the $10 amount can submit whatever ideas they want, I'll pick whatever ideas strike my fancy and draw them!
- I am going to begin offering a monthly Patron-only stream at the $5 level. I'm still figuring out exactly what this will entail - it might be taking ideas from the suggestion box, or taking ideas directly from the audience. We'll figure out what people want to see in there as we go!
Other rewards are going to stay about the same:
- Patrons at the $1 level will continue to get access to everything on Patreon, and will continue to see pictures before they're released to other sides.
- Patrons at the $5 level will continue to see in-progress works as I'm drawing.
I am going to be updating the rewards descriptions on my page in the coming days, so stay tuned. If you have any questions, hit me up in the comments or in a private message, I'll do my best to let you know what I'm thinking.

2020-09-09 00:52:56 +0000 UTCThat said you do what makes you happy! Patreon is about support, I love the idea of just keeping rotating suggestions going. One thing I would suggest is you could also ask suggestions around specific themes as well (ala easter or christmas style suggestions around that period). Glad to see you've recharged your batteries some though! I think burnout is the primary concern, and it doesn't hurt to experiment with tiers and see how it goes. Corrupthalf did something similar with his doodlefests he used to do, just having people post a bunch of ideas and kind of picking the ones he enjoyed the most and posting them as a lil image dump.

I hardly ever draw so it's nice to see an artist whos style and content I adore do more stuff! Gentle gts and playful growth stuff is great!

You make a really good point that anyone participating should have a way to provide feedback and ideas, so I am going to try to make that happen. That said, the choice to drop Patron's Choice wasn't an easy one. But that change is one I think I have to make if I want to keep running this for any sustainable amount of time. I have been spending a lot of time thinking about how much time and energy I have outside of my daily job, and what compromise I could find that would allow me to open this back up. If you do decide to change or drop your pledge, I understand. I really appreciate your support, but I get it. It's a big change. I just hope you understand that I'm not making the decision lightly, and part of the reason it took so long to come back was me deciding on a decent alternative to Patron's Choice.

Giving $10-tier patrons the ability to generate ideas to be voted on by the rest of the supporters seemed appropriate to their level of privilege. Removing the $5-tier and $1-tiers ability to vote on things as a form of input seems like a total shut-out for everyone except the $10-tier people. Frankly, I hate to use the term, but its pretty elitist. I personally enjoyed feeling like my input mattered here. Maybe you are thinking the stream will replace the voting for the lower tiers, but since you just said you might just go ahead and defer to the $10-tier suggestions during the stream anyway, it feels very flimsy at best. I will be totally honest with you: if you shut-out everyone except the $10-tier from giving any regular feedback, then at the very least I will drop from the $5-tier to the $1-tier. My apologies, but that's the way I feel. I do hope you reconsider, because I was excited to see that you were finally making a comeback and I would very much like to continue to support you and Takai as much as I can into the future.
