I - Bael
From The Lesser Key:
The first principal spirit is a king ruling in ye East, called Bael.? he maketh men goe Invisible, he ruleth over 66 Legions ofInferiour spirits, he appeareth in divers shapes, sometimes like a Catt, sometimes like a toad sometimes like a man and sometimes in all these forms at once. he speaketh very horsly' This is his Character when is to be worn as a laymen before him who calleth him forth, or else he will not doe you homage.
From Pseudomonarchia Daemonium:
(1) <Baell>. Their first <and principall> king (which is of the power of the east) is called Baëll who when he is conjured up, appeareth with three heads; the first, like a tode; the second, like a man; the third, like a cat. He speaketh with a hoarse voice, he maketh a man go invisible [and wise], he hath under his obedience and rule sixtie and six legions of divels.
La Grande Grimoire places King Bael beneath another demon titled Luciferge Rofocale. Evidence for this was based off a supposed translation of an ancient hebrew manuscript by Elphias Levi, which titles Rofocale as one of the Quiploth. My distaste for Elphias Levi, his work, and those who accept it as a sort of canon, cannot be understated. Even in addition to his status as a roman catholic priest, he lacked qabbalistic training, and any information derived from him should be studied only with the foreknowledge of its dangerous and culturally destructive inaccuracies. I will be largely discounting his additions on the matter.
Bael’s title of King of the East, is an elected one. He rules the eastern province of Dis, and seems to be well liked, having held his position for at least half a millenia. He rules six legions of demons. Keep in mind an infernal legion is 6000, formed of ten infernal centuries of 600 demons.
As for his appearance, as a man a cat and a toad, or his depiction in the Dinctionnaire Infernale as a creature with three separate heads, I can only describe king Bael as both. His eyes are far set and feline, and rest above a wide toads mouth lined with cats fangs and a long whipping tongue.
Demonic flesh seems more mineral than animal. In form, it resembles fine marble statuary worthy of the italian masters, warped and twisted by some great flame until it resembled a mix of volcanic glass and charred, ashen skin. The visage of king bael confirms my suspicion that demonic flesh is something that can be wrought and shaped like metal. (Looking at a demon, one is unsure if they were grown or sculped, or if given their origins there is even a difference.) He possesses only one head, but wears ceremonial armor with pauldrons made from what are ostensibly the skulls of a pair of demons resembling a toad and a cat.
Brand of the Politician - While previous grimoires speak of bael granting invisibility and popularity, the nature of Bael’s invisibility is social.
When the marked makes an effort to appear nondescript, their presence becomes like water in a sieve, slipping almost immediately from memory. Conversely, when the marked makes efforts to be convincing or charming, they will find their words are supernaturally persuasive. While others don’t become puppets, they become suggestible, pliable, friendlier, more open to the ideas of the marked.
It seems to be an ability one can practice and improve their skill with. At first only a single person can be enthralled at a time, but with continued use the marked could enthrall stadiums.
In addition to the soul, Bael takes the voice. Making use of this brand puts incredible strain on the vocal chords, for every hour the brand is used, two must be spent effectively mute.
