From The Book of Oberon

From Pseudomonarchia
Barbatos, a great countie or earle, and also a duke, he appeareth in Signo sagittarii sylvestris,1 with foure kings, which bring companies and great troopes. He understandeth the singing of birds, the barking of dogs, the lowings of bullocks, and the voice of all living creatures. He detecteth treasures hidden by magicians and inchanters, and is of the order of vertues, which in part beare rule: he knoweth all things past, and to come, and reconcileth freends and powers; and governeth thirtie legions of divels by his authoritie.
From the lesser key
The Eighth Spirit is Barbatos. He is a Great Duke, and appeareth when the Sun is in Sagittary, with four noble Kings and their companies of great troops. He giveth understanding of the singing of Birds, and of the Voices of other creatures, such as the barking of Dogs. He breaketh the Hidden Treasures open that have been laid by the Enchantments of Magicians. He is of the Order of Virtues, of which some part he retaineth still; and he knoweth all things Past, and to Come, and conciliateth Friends and those that be in Power. He ruleth over 30 Legions of Spirits. His Seal of Obedience is this, the which wear before thee as aforesaid.
Appearance: An Archer or hunter with a beard
Subrace: former virtue
Abilities: Speaking to beasts, treasure divination, reconciliation, hexes
Legions: 30
Rank: Duke
Notes - Seemingly unique in their ability to speak to beasts, also mentioned as appearing in the company of four noble kings and their troops. This could be the Cardinal Kings: Paimon, Bael, Beleth, and Gaap. Or this could be the kings he serves. I am unsure if his role is more as a hunter or more as a translator. Actually, on second thought, most of his depictions mention little of his association with the hunt, a role as translator makes more sense. In which case, he would likely serve under Belial, the Infernal Judge. Upon further research it seems his role is absolutely more as a guide than as a lonesome hunter.
Brand of the Whisper - Allows the marked to speak to animals, when used on humans, it calms them.
Comments
It was confusing doing the research for this guy but once I considered he wasnt actually a hunter it made a lot more sense
