[27]  Bune Bune est ung grant duc qui faict les corps aler et venir d'un lieu en aultre chemyner, et faict home riche et parler saigement devant toutes gens, et donne vroye responce de ce que on luy demande ; et a XXXV legions.

Appearance: A three-headed dragon, one with a dog head, one like a man, one like a gryphon.

Subrace: Likely Cambion

Abilities: Divination wealth and wit

Legions: 30

Rank: Duke

Notes:

One of the three demons associated with burial, the others being Bifrons, in charge of moving the bodies, and Murmurr, in charge of moving the souls. This implies that Bune is given charge of the soulless bodies, and gives us some insight into the infernal artifice. This trio likely works under Vine.

Caroll Runyon makes the claim that the name Bune is derived from Buto, a title for the god Isis. While there is absolutely grounding for the goetia being based in mesopotamia mythology, this claim is likely spurious, and Bune bares no resemblance to Isis. In reality, it is far more likely that the name Bune comes from the word “Bunis” (pronounced identically to Bune), which are the chthonic animist spirits of the Tungusic peoples of siberia, the same culture from which we get the word shaman.

In An encyclopedia of the occult by Lewis Spence, Spence makes the claim that the demons serving beneath Bune are called Bunis, and that the Tartar people consider them especially evil. This is a misattribution. The Tartars are not the Tungis people. Max Muller in Contributions to the Science of Mythology, Volume 1 described the nature of the Bunis as closer to that of the Fae, specifically that of the finnish Haltija.

Brand of the Chosen - The marked is able to temporarily assume demonic form.
