✨ 🍵 Tea’s Recommendations 🍵✨ [Need Something to Read, Watch or Do?] [Try One of These]
Added 2021-08-15 11:30:21 +0000 UTCYo, Teacups! Sometimes I feel like I stay caught in a cycle of the same shows, books, snacks, and whatever else. If you suffer from this, I hope this small collection of recommendations can be of some help.
P.S. These are obviously just things I like and if you don’t like them too, then that’s absolutely a-okay ❤️
TV Shows:
- After Life. A beautiful show all about dealing with life after the loss of a loved one. Series one made me fall in love, and series two made me cry like a bitch. You will not regret it.
- The End of the F***king World. If you like strange love stories, you’ll love this. Follow James and Alysa as they say “fuck you” to themselves, their parents, and possibly their futures. A weird but poignant story all about dealing with past trauma, family issues, and figuring out how to care for the person next to you.
- Lucky Star. A slice of life anime with no particular plot, just some hecking cute high school girls, hanging out and talking. That’s it. That’s the show. No panty shots, no big action, no real conflict. Just people talking about stuff. This is the ultimate comfort watch and I highly, highly recommend it. Plus, all the snacks and cakes and food make you super hungry. So, be sure to get takeout and enjoy munching along.
- Jane Eyre (2006 BBC Production). Okay, so I appreciate period dramas might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but the sexual tension in this one is PALPABLE. Seriously, the two actors have so much chemistry, their kissing scenes make you wanna put a pillow over your face, but then sneak another peak because it’s so hecking good. Seriously cannot recommend this one highly enough. If you like stubborn love interests, spooky castles, and intense kisses by the fire, you’ll love Jane Eyre. Remember! The 2006 BBC production. That’s very important).
- The Walking Dead (Seasons 1-3). I know, I know… But guys, you don’t understand. I am godfathering this shit! “Look how they massacred my boy!”. The first three seasons of this show are truly worth watching. The plots, the character developments, the acting - all really, really enjoyable. If you can separate yourself from the knowledge of the downfall, I’d create your own fantasy where it ends at season 3 and just enjoy the shit out of the good stuff.
- Aggretsuko. Anthropomorphic animals, office jobs and death metal - this is Aggretsuko! These are short episodes all about managing daily bullshit, relationships and trying to find the good in yourself, even when it’s hard as fuck. A thoroughly enjoyable and sweet series that can help make you feel represented, even if that representation comes in the form of a death metal-loving red panda.
Books:
- My Policeman. A heartbreaking story all about the perils of homophobia, dishonesty and falling in love with the wrong person. Do not read this book if you like happy endings. I won’t say it ends in disaster, but the bittersweetness is TART! I love stories where people feel like people and this book absolutely sells that and more. All the way through I kept saying “No, no, no. Don’t do that, just leave. LEAVE!” and if that isn’t an accurate depiction of human behaviour then I don’t know what is. Read for the feels, learn from the characters.
- My Sister the Serial Killer. A really surprising, but wickedly enjoyable story all about trauma, family, and the infuriating bonds of loyalty. Follow two sisters and their weird arrangement. Expect uncomfortable conversations, sibling rivalry, and of course, the unexpected. Nobody expects their sibling to be a serial killer. Oh, but the sibling does expect you to help with the clean up, of course.
- Good Omens. A delicious, farcical romp all about the end of the world. Need more? Well, there’s an angel and a demon and they’re kind of in love, but not quite ready to deal with that. So, instead they plan to prevent Armageddon, effectively betraying their respective sides of heaven and hell. Join them on this insane, yet charming adventure. P.S. It’s now also a TV show and I also highly recommend that.
- Adulthood Is A MYTH. A fantastic collection of comics by someone who’s upfront about THIS BULLSHIT. Addictive, easy to enjoy, and very relaxing. Perfect for when you want an easy, but entertaining read.
Snacks:
- Cheese on Toast. The pinnacle of English cuisine. Toast two pieces of bread. Microwave a shit ton of cheese in a container. Transfer the cheese onto the bread. Munch, crunch, DEVOUR! It’s perfect for rainy, cold, uninspiring days - and if you live in Europe, well, we have them in spades!
- BLT. As you can see, living in England has had a profound and lasting impact on me. You need: two slices of bread, fried bacon, lettuce, sliced tomato, and a little glob of mayo. Heaven between two pieces of carb.
- Coconut Tarts. Sweet, moist and full of “oh, good god, I’m horny again”. I don’t bake these. I buy them and I highly recommend you do so too.
- Cucumber Sandwiches. Dainty, yummy and not actually terrible for your digestive system. Two slices of bread, a little bit of butter, and a whole lot of sliced cucumber. Feel like a lady or a gent and tuck in! Also, eat it with English breakfast tea. IT’S THE LAW!
- Banana Ice Cream. If you want something that’s sweet, but you’re trying to be a little bit healthier, this is a great option. All you need is a blender, some frozen bananas and any other fruit of your choice. I like to go with strawberries or raspberries, but you do you, lovelies. Stick ‘em all in the blender, blitz it, and there you go! Banana ice cream. I’m not gonna lie, it’s not as good as real ice cream, but sometimes it’s good to pack in the fruit and veggies.
Activities:
- Build A Campfire. This might not be possible for everyone, but if you have any outside space or any place you can go to, just go there, get some drinks and some food and build a little campfire. It’s easy, fun, and I don’t know, it just makes you like “mmm, fire good”. I know, a very articulate sentiment, but I swear it makes you feel good. The smell, the sound, the feeling of being outside - it feels good, man.
- Do Something Nice For a Friend or Loved One. We ain’t talking about big money or expensive trips. We’re talking good old, can’t live without, bread and butter kindness. Make someone a sandwich, text them a meme, go to the shops to get their medicine, make that call their too anxious to make, lend them your jacket, let them show you a stupid video on YouTube. Essentially, take an active and genuine interest in them because they need it.
- Build Something. Whether it’s the Lego Death Star, a garden bench or a fort for your nieces and nephews - make something! Task satisfaction is real and it feels good to have accomplished something. It doesn’t have to be a piece of art in order to be worthwhile. Some of the most meaningful moments of our lives are so inconsequential to other people. It’s important if it’s important to YOU.
- Interact with Animals. No pet? No problem. Go to someone who does. Offer to walk your friend’s dog, babysit your mom’s cat, look after your niece’s hamster. It doesn’t matter, just interact with furry babies and treasure it.
And that’s my offering for the month. I hope some of this can lead to a good time for you. I truly do.
Best wishes,
Tea

2021-08-15 19:44:14 +0000 UTCTea, you should cook however you want, so please take this as the light hearted jab that is meant as. Now with that in mind the pain in my little English soul upon reading your cheese on toast recipe... 😫

2021-08-15 16:39:41 +0000 UTCI guess I gotta throw out some recommendations. Golden Kamuy: It's a fun anime with the funny and some serious. If you like historically accurate depictions of old guns, you should give this a watch. It's on Funimation Drifters: A different take on isekai anime, there is some fanservice. There are historical figures and some funny and some serious. Beware, there is only one season at the moment and I believe it is now on hulu. Gate: A portal opens up in modern Japan, Roman lookin' soldiers come strolling through and terrorize the people. The JSDF lays the hurtin' on 'em and establishes a F.O.B. on the other side. The commanding officer is a WEEB and fantasy shenanigans happen. Hulu Hogans Heroes: A sitcom set in a WW2 German POW camp. The actors work well together, the jokes still land and it is just good clean fun. There are some serious bits here and there but that just makes it better. You can watch some full episodes on YouTube as I don't know of any service that has the full series, but you can buy the box set if you enjoy it that much. Also, thank you Tea for your recommendations.

2021-08-15 14:17:47 +0000 UTCIf you're looking for an anime in the vein of Tea's more fantastical romantic stories, I'd like to recommend Spice & Wolf.

2021-08-15 13:44:04 +0000 UTCSuper glad on the Lucky Star recommendation. I've seen it more times than I can count and it's just so fun and light hearted. If anyone else enjoys that, I HIGHLY, Highly recommend Azumanga Daioh! Another cute, easy to watch SoL show that's just a few friends going to school. Theres some absolutely hilarious moments from Osaka (Kasuga) and Chiyo is just frikkin' adorable. It's a little more 'out there' but just get comfy, get some tea or other hot beverage of your choice and just giggle.

2021-08-15 13:39:45 +0000 UTCIf I could make a recommendation of my own it would be the anime "Laid-Back Camp", and it's side story that takes place in between the first and second season "Room Camp". It's about a group of girls and their teacher camping and eating in both solo and group varieties, and the best part is the show shows the strengths of both. Here are links to legal streams of them.: Laid-Back Camp: https://www.crunchyroll.com/laid-back-camp Room Camp: https://www.crunchyroll.com/room-camp Just lay back and enjoy the comfy.

2021-08-15 13:32:56 +0000 UTCSince we're reccomending stuff, here's some stuff I reccomend: >Murdoch Mysteries: A detective show that follows Detective William Murdoch as he uses unusual yet creative methods to solve mysteries in Toronto at the turn of the Twentieth Century. >Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter: Pretty self explanatory. This is a novel that follows Abraham Lincoln as he fights his personal war against vampirism from his boyhood days in Kentucky to the bloody days of the American Civil War (they made a movie of this, but it doesn't do the movie justice at all). >The Mystic Archives of Dantalion: This anime follows Hugh Anthony Disward as, upon inheriting his Grandfather's estate and a mysterious key upon his death, meets Dalian, the keeper of an archive of forbidden knowledge "Phantom Books." Together, these two investigate incidents where Phantom Books are misused and seal then away, in an attempt to maintain order in Post-World War One England. >O' Brother Where Art Thou?: This movie movie follows Ulysses Everett McGill and his companions, Pete and Delmar, as they run from the law in an effort to find a treasure that Everett stashed away. Along the way they meet sirens, a one eyed bible salesman, a guitar player that sold his soul to the devil, and unintentionally become music sensations, all while alluding the dark eyed lawman in Depression Era Mississippi (its pretty much Homer's Odyssey in the Southern United States, to put it plainly). I hope you enjoy these reccomendations and I hope you have a pleasant day, Tea. 😄

2021-08-15 13:29:12 +0000 UTCAww this post was so wholesome ❤ I'm so excited to check out Lucky Star now! Slice of life is my favourite anime genre and I've never heard of this one! Gonna look it up tonight 😌 Also, if you like slice of life, yall definitely need to watch Toradora if you haven't. It's the pinnacle of the genre, funny, cute, investing and my favourite anime ever. Another recommendation I would make is Sex Education on Netflix! Yall have probably heard of it by now but it is so well done, funny, investing arcs and characters, and makes you keep wanting more and more

2021-08-15 13:19:05 +0000 UTCI'm in agreement as well I still enjoyed afterwards but season 4 and up I don't think were handled well, mostly cuz they deviated a good deal from the source material.

2021-08-15 13:05:37 +0000 UTCAnother good book series for the Sci-fi fans is Red Rising. Do note the squeals aren't the same title so look for the author Pierce Brown. I'm not much of a book reader but after I was talked into reading Red Rising I got sucked in.

2021-08-15 13:02:33 +0000 UTCI don't really watch modern TV shows anymore but I've heard great things about Walking Dead. the only animes I've felt like watching this year is One Piece and My Hero Academia. There aren't a whole lot of books I'm interested in and the ones I've read that get turned into audiobooks feels as if I'm doing a book report.

2021-08-15 11:50:30 +0000 UTCMy mother loves Afterlife (she's still waiting for season 3). I only tried it because of Ricky Gervais. Not my cup of tea (did not mean that as a pun, I swear, even though it would've been better if I had), and I have had bad clinical depression a few times with the last 4 years, so I absolutely get it. And thank you for the suggestions, Tea. I'm sure many people will make use of at least some of it in a productive way. I feel like I owe you. Again, seriously: thank you... my dear. You make us happy. You make all of us very, very happy. And this post is just another piece of evidence...

2021-08-15 11:37:21 +0000 UTCWhy are you so amazing, because you are. I'm working on a pedalboard (guitar player thing) for a friend of mine that gave me some lessons, and I offered to build his board and make custom patch cables. (The cables that go between the effect pedals.) and upgraded his power supply so he could power all his effects from one spot. Feels awesome doing someyging I like and he's gonna love it when I'm done.
