Excel LADZ - 2023 Women's World Cup Model

G'day lads, attached is an Excel file that uses the Women's FIFA World Ratings to simulate & predict the 2023 Women's World Cup Knockout Stages. Here's the link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0stJr6V5Vg

Follow the steps to use:

1. Open the file, and the summarised results are on the 'Sim Results' worksheet. These results are based on only 1,000 simulations, so the percentages are sure to change slightly whenever new data is inputed or refreshed.

2. This model has been built BEFORE the Top 16 teams from the Group Stages have been decided. Therefore, when the Group Stage concludes, you must update the knockout bracket in the 'Knockout Rounds' worksheet. All this involves selecting the cells with a team in them, e.g. cell B2 with Switzerland, and a dropdown list will appear where you can choose the appropriate team.

3. Once a game has been decided (i.e. played), you must "fix" the cell. For example, consider the hypothetical Round of 16 match of Switzerland vs Jamaica in cells B2:B3. If Jamaica win, they progress to the Quarter Finals and play the winner of Norway vs Philippines. Therefore, in cell E4, you would write over the top of the formula (which simulates a result) and type in Jamaica. This is because the result has already been decided...

4. In the 'ELO Ratings" worksheet is the list of all teams and their relevant FIFA rating. All the formulas are based off of these ratings. If at any point during the tournament a team's FIFA Ranking Points changes, feel free to update the relevant cells in here 👍

5. Within the 'Simulations' worksheet is the 1,000 simulations of the 'Knockout Rounds' bracket. This is done using a Data Table as part of a What-If Analysis. This worksheet does not need to be touched, and will update automatically.
