True. The mindset and leadership direction in Ascention does seem to shy away from issues involving inevitable PVP combat. Might be time to start offering incentive/rewards/dungeon priority to people willing to be Knives/Eyes. Definitly would let us see silverplate Val much quicker since he seems like a hardcore dueling/PVP fanboy.

2022-04-09 23:21:09 +0000 UTCWith Rain developing link sight there’s potential in seeing other peoples health/stamina/mana, but I doubt he’ll ever be able to see anything like resistances. As of right now no he cannot see other people health bars. It would take a few seconds in a singularity to kill Tallheart due to the damage limit, Amelia’s would die far far faster. The issue is the environmental damage, should Rain go Chernobyl he’d melt friend and foe alike even with aura iff excluding allies. I don’t think aura iff can distinguish between Bronze/silver etc. though again with prismatic intent and mana sight allowing him to improve his spells and link sight there’s potential there as well.

2022-04-09 22:54:12 +0000 UTCYea but Rain has already shown his unwillingness to get his hands overly dirty in the past. This is a portal fantasy, as in Rain still has his modern sensibility and those pesky morals. The difference between an oral medication I.e. the traditional health potion, and a health potion that can be directly injected into the bloodstream would be night and day (Unless there are already apply on wound potions that I forgot about) development would take extensive testing that I doubt Rain would approve of given the implications

2022-04-07 05:55:48 +0000 UTCOther Ascention members can learn for Rain's example. Like what's stopping Tallheart from attaching an arm strap to Subelty, calling it a shield, and using Heavy Armor Inventory on it? Ameliah mentioned in the depths that even something as freakishly huge as a seige balista can count as a bow due to how the system uses tags. You'd just need to figure out how the system defines the 'shield' tag, and size should not be an issue. I'm sure there's lots of other ways people can abuse the tag system to create a worthy opponent for current Best Spell Ever; Purify.

2022-04-06 05:20:08 +0000 UTCI was just rereading the earlier chapter where rain was flickering purify with detection, and it occured to me he could probably do that with shroud and radiance to create a really disorienting strobe effect even against someone he couldn't hurt. However it goes, I hope to see more creative uses of his skills like when he used the acceleration aura to make people stumble. That stuff is really cool.

2022-04-06 03:57:03 +0000 UTCEhhh. You do make some good points that shifts my opinion a bit towards it being more unwise than I thought before. But I'm willing to see it as understandable complacency from too long spent without a real threat instead of gimping him. It's been like, what, 3-4 months since they ran from the Empire? The only real fight he's had since then was against Thrast and that was a one-sided beatdown. Against goldplates like Velika and Halgrave, getting one extra skill wouldn't matter. So he's gotten a false sense of security from that, being back in civilization, having strong allies (both temporary and not), his equipment, and soon leaving. He pretty much wears his armor 24/7 so it wasn't even a false sense of security with how OP that shit is. If anything, having him "need" to take off his armor could be seen as the thing that feels forced here to create more dramatic tension more than him not spending his skill points. If I were in the same position I could see myself having done the same with skill points, especially with Velika about to spill the beans on the goldplate upgrade in a matter of days. But taking off that sweet armor? Fuuuuck that. I'm hoping there's a pretty good reason behind him needing to take it off/this meeting.

2022-04-06 02:11:56 +0000 UTCI like the way you think. "Here, take the two intact ones, we'll keep the broken one for ourselves."

2022-04-05 20:49:19 +0000 UTCYeah, but Rain was more concerned about healing his throat with overhealth. And since the damn muppet hasn't taken Ethereal Aura yet, he has to worry about injuring Vanna with mageburn. A 10k Radiance burst like the one he used on Lady Sale would blind both her and Ameliah. And considering the effect of dark damage is something like 'loss of sensation' and 'crushing despair' if I remember correctly, Shroud is not an option. He's such a dumbass! He knows that he wants Anchor Aura, he knows it requires Ethereal Aura, and he knows that he needs Ethereal Aura to use his offensive auras at 10k per second without killing his allies, yet he keeps sitting on his skill points. This is beginning to feel like artificial stupidity to keep the MC from becoming too competent.

2022-04-05 20:46:07 +0000 UTCwht id like to see is for use fulmination or immolation to kill the two assassins, and then for ameliah to carry him over to the ships and he uses shroud to kill most warriors while using supression on everyone, and forcing all the non physical combatants to stay down, while damn near single handly deafeating and capturing a empire platoon, ameliah and velika clean up the heavy hitters with ward supoort from rain. which would leave halgrave just sitting there like maybe they can keep there stuff. but no matter what we get im sure its gonna be fire

2022-04-05 18:41:53 +0000 UTCare there life meter in pvp, can rain tell which of his offensive auras the enemy has the least resistance for? and does any one know how long it would take rain to kill tallheart or ameliah in the damage limit zone? i wonder if the aura iff can seperate entities based on level or class? cus it would be great if rain could kill/hurt the combatants and leave the support to be captured
ricky jackson
2022-04-05 18:20:10 +0000 UTCshit, hard to say if Velika will intervene cause she wants to hide from Halgrave, but she also wants to a ship to get the fuck of the continent. Halgrave is the same nutjob uncertain. Grab his daughter from the wreck or attack the empire ships. What did they get out of the empires office? nothing i guess? the 2 new ships might as well have a goldplate on it as well. imagine halgrave been hard pressed by a gold plate, cause he fears his daughter getting caught up and velika needs to chip in or her chance to flee vanishes as an oppenent Halgrave or her alone cannot best attacks them hm the possibilities how this could go are endless, joy!

2022-04-05 16:09:36 +0000 UTCAlso maybe add healing potion auto-injectors to the list of things to invent. You could bring yourself or a teammate back above 0 HP significantly quicker than drinking a potion, even in the heat of battle, Or in PVP scenerios.

2022-04-05 08:44:42 +0000 UTCI don't think they did, but that would be a huge step in giving Ascension enough power to hold their own. Considering that kingdom/continent relies on non-awakened for their army, implying that their technology is enough to even threaten golds.

2022-04-04 16:05:17 +0000 UTCDude has been in combat against some ridiculous stuff that can smash him to a pulp in 1 shot and not flinched either. Yeah the cut was out of nowhere but physical combat at his level is already so nasty that "out of nowhere" would essentially be his normal since he isn't a phys combat classer. At a certain point you either adapt to that or, well, you just flat out die. Given that he has been in combat on and off for a while now he won't be grizzled veteran but he shouldn't fall apart entirely either here.

2022-04-04 03:53:48 +0000 UTCI expect Halgrave to actually take part in the defense against the Empire, here. Velika might not want to draw Halgrave's attention, as he's the biggest potential threat to her, barring some unknown Imperial goldplate. Halgrave certainly has reason to hate Velika, and she's wanted by the DKE... I don't know if she's wanted by the Guild, though

2022-04-04 02:43:46 +0000 UTCRain: "Man I'm developing a complex about wearing armor. That's not healthy." *takes off armor* Five minutes later: gets throat slit Yeah. I'd have a fuckin' complex, too!

2022-04-03 20:02:33 +0000 UTCHmm 2 ship, good loot and maybe get the core of a ship this time? Travel with 3 ship is good :) Maybe maybe but its dangerous give one of the ship to DKE and the Bank for right of passage and some accord :)

2022-04-03 17:47:24 +0000 UTCYou need to understand too, that its sudden, unexpected and happen in 2-3 sec total when he get his throat cut, him already reacting with his ring and stuff is already good i think But yeah in next chapter if he dont insta fuck them and react and do thing, its kinda like you say if he stay shocked after

2022-04-03 17:44:52 +0000 UTCDude just got his throat cut and was bleeding out, what do you expect?

2022-04-03 16:25:38 +0000 UTClol, now he's never gonna take it off again. He'll have to ask Tallheart for removable crotch plates in the future.

2022-04-03 16:23:54 +0000 UTCThey can’t leave in a rush with two ships around so they will have to take them out. Thankfully they happen to have two gold plates in the form of Halgrave and Velika. So unless the Empire happens to have a gold plate in addition to the ships, they should be fine. Freaking Empire sure knows how to be a shadow that strikes when you least expect it.

2022-04-03 14:42:46 +0000 UTCShould've been spamming detection instead of thinking about stuff. At least his macros work.

2022-04-03 13:43:31 +0000 UTCI think it's less that he was being passive, and more that he was suffering a continuing bleed that would have quickly killed him, and that held his attention. Besides, most of the combat he's been in has either been him bullying weaker beings, him playing support from behind a wall of other people, or him getting one-shotted and passing out. It's actually been pretty rare for him to be put in direct frontline danger that was actually dangerous without getting knocked out in the way he was in this chapter. At least since the very early days when he was fighting slimes in the sewer.
Forrest Minter
2022-04-03 13:31:59 +0000 UTCI'm surprised he was so passive once he got attacked. Rain's been in a fair amount of combat so far. He should be getting better at this...

2022-04-03 12:38:03 +0000 UTCWhat a cliffhanger. Good thing they have two goldplates around, though I'm not sure if Halgrave would help or just stand back and get ready to extract his daughter from the carnage. Velika is gonna slice some ships though, she's not gonna let them sink her ride. Good to see the knifes make an appearance. Rain's inverted Detection reminds me a bit of Nice Guy, a stranger-classified parahuman from Worm. You can see him, notice him put a knife to your throat, watch him kill your friends, but his presence seems utterly inconsequential. You're unable to even think about him as a threat. Unless you're another stranger that is, he needs line of sight.
