Heilung - Anoana

This polyphonic beauty isn't something you should look over.

The music is an absolute experience. Not only the music is amazing, but the lighting, the effects, the beauty of it all is absolutely moving.

I will definitely be checking out more Heilung!

Do not miss out on this one!

Just saw that you already checked out Wardruna which are the closed group I know to Heilung. I actually knew them well before Heilung even started. I can give some other northern European neofolk groups that I personally keep listening to and have been since I discovered them close to 20 years ago when I was very much diving into metal funnily enough (like I did with Wardruna), but I will keep that for the Wardruna reaction.

I honestly need more of this in my life. I immediately shared this band with friends who I knew would love this and they were just as moved. I am so glad this was sent to me!

Welcome to the mystical world of Heilung. You had the same reaction I did when I first heard them. They refer to their performances as rituals, and very much imbody the healing their name suggests. They make much of their own instruments, and yes, skins and bones are a big part of it. The core members of Heilung are the solo female vocalist, Maria Franz, throat singer Kai Uwe Faust, and Chris Juul (not seen). The other women singing are Emilie Lorentzen, Annicke Shireen, and Mira Ceti. If you haven't checked the official music video for "Anoana", it's a beautiful video and the soundscape is magical in the headphones. If you check out anything from their live performance of the album "Lifa" Live from Castlefest in 2017, you can see more of the instruments used. "Krigsgaldr" (here is your war song) is a good one to react to, but do yourself a favor, watch the whole concert. The Charismatic Voice has a wonderful interview she did with Maria on YouTube, where she talks about Heilung's beginning. The other 3 women here are also interesting. Emilie has a degree in Indo-European Linguistcs and has music out in the Bornholm dialect, a language from the Danish island she grew up on. Annicke first joined Heilung doing makeup and costume design, before joining the chorus. She still does magnificent clothing and costume design, and also performs with the prog rock band Pure Reason Revolution and her own "witch pop" band, Shireen. Shireen's music video for "Umai" is one of my faves from them. Mira Ceti's music falls very much in the Heilung camp, though is a little more broad in her cultural influences. "Uriat" is based Buryat folk song celebration of spring.

Ahh, the sound of a handful of Mussel shells gently tapped down in a copper bowl ;) They make most of their instruments themselves ;) 'Krigsgaldr' is my favourite song, but make sure to check the live versions for added ambience ;) hehe
