I meant more in terms of Hartnell's health and being surprised that he was still able to do the show.

2022-10-06 13:48:39 +0000 UTCIn terms of the First Doctor still being around: bear in mind that, at this early point in the series, it was never envisaged to have more than one actor playing the role. Hartnell was 'The Doctor'; and the series was intended to run until such time as he chose to leave (or the show ran out of steam). This story is a decent sci-fi concept; and it has an interesting structure. It's fun, with 'future' hindsight, to realise that the Doctor (in his 9th incarnation) would eventually get to witness that dying moment of the Earth!
