Widow's Vengeance : Chapter 4 - Heaven

Chapter 4 - Heaven

Eventually Harry was able to get released from the hospital, on that day Mr Rushman - or 'Matt' as he told Harry to call him - arrived, he had brought a bunch of clothes for Harry to wear.

"Sorry about these," Mr Rushman said apologetically. "I didn't really know what you'd like so I guessed. You'll keep these until me and my wife and can get you some more, after than you can throw these away or keep them."

"But I..." Harry coughed as he tried to think of the right words to say. "I...I can't take these." He protested.

"Sure you can," Mr Rushman replied. "I mean...they are a bit plain but it's not like they're embarrassing or anything."

"No, I...I meant that you shouldn't be spending money on me." Harry said, making sure to keep his voice polite just in case, he didn't really want to risk angering Mr Rushman. "You...you should spend your money on Natasha and Clint...not...not me." Harry quietly added.

"Look Harry," Mr Rushman sighed. "I have plenty of money, me and my wife are very well off. And you need some clothes, good ones, not the hospital provided ones and not those poor excuses of clothes that the Dursley's made you wear. Now, I understand why you are worried but let me tell you that I don't mind spending money on you if it means you're wearing decent clothing. Now, take these clothes and put them on, I'll be back in here in about ten minutes." Mr Rushman said before he stood up and walked out of the room.

Harry frowned as he looked back and forth between the clothes that Mr Rushman had left and the door that he had walked out of. Years of living with the Dursley's told him that 'freaks' weren't allowed to have nice stuff and the clothes did look nice, but Mr Rushman had also told him to put them on and he would be living with Mr Rushman, even if it was temporarily, so he should listen to him.

So with a sigh Harry went over to the clothes and started changing.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Here we are, Harry." Mr Rushman said once they arrived at his house in his car. Harry nodded before he climbed out of the front passenger seat, Harry still found it hard to believe he was allowed to sit at the front, he had never been allowed to do that before. Harry was stood on the pavement in front of the Rushman house while wearing some dark blue trainers, blue jeans, a white shirt under a maroon jumper.

Harry looked towards the house that Mr Rushman apparently lived in, it was a big house, it wasn't massive like a mansion or anything, but it was very big.

"Do you like it?" Mr Rushman grinned as he stood next to Harry after parking his car on the driveway.

"It...it looks really nice, sir." Harry responded.

"Harry," Mr Rushman rolled his eyes. "please just call me Matt." He said.

"Oh, I forgot, sorry s...sorry Matt." Harry apologised.

"It's fine, now come on, let's go." Matt said before walking towards the door, Harry quickly followed behind him. Matt took his keys out and opened the door, he and Harry walked in.

"Whoa." Harry breathed as he looked at the inside, it was clean like the Dursley's house but unlike the Dursley's house it actually looked nice to live in.

"Follow me, kid." Matt said as he walked past Harry, Harry blinked before he quickly started following him. They walked into the kitchen where Harry saw a woman who had just taken off a pair of rubber gloves, she was wearing expensive looking shoes - at least Harry thought they were expensive, he honestly couldn't tell - blue jeans and a blue jumper. She had a pretty face, red hair and blue eyes.

"Harry," Matt spoke. "meet my wife."

"It's...it's nice to meet you, Miss Rushman." Harry politely nodded.

"Oh, it's a pleasure to meet you, Harry." She smiled as she walked over and kneeled down in front of him. "You can call me Jess." She told Harry with a kind smile.

"Good luck at trying to get him to do that," Matt snorted. "I still have to remind him to call me Matt." Matt said, causing Harry to blush embarrassment.

"Sorry." Harry quietly apologised.

"Oi," Jess slapped his leg. "don't embarrass him." She told him off before turning to Harry. "Ignore the bad man." She told him with a jokey smile. "Now, chin up." She told him.

"Yes Mrs...I mean...yes Jess." Harry said as he looked at her.

"Good boy." She told him, causing his cheeks to go back to red. "Hmm, these glasses don't look very good." She frowned as she looked at his round glasses which were being held together by duct tape.

"They aren't," Matt said, he briefly looked angry but managed to shift his expression to a neutral one when Harry looked up at him. "apparently they weren't prescribed for him, I think his aunt got them from a charity store."

"I see." Jess frowned, but quickly turned that frowned upside down when Harry looked towards her. "Well, we'll just have to get him some new ones."

"You...you don't have to." Harry quietly said.

"Nonsense," Jess waved him off. "you need good glasses, we can't have you stumbling around blindly. Hmm, maybe we should get you some contacts lens," She said in a thoughtful voice as she looked at him. "some clear ones, those beautiful eyes should be shown off, not hidden." She said.

"T...thank you." Harry mumbled, he felt like the only thing that was more red than his cheeks was probably a fire engine. He wasn't really sure how to act, this was Mr Rushman's wife and if he annoyed her then it was possible that Mr Rushman would punish him or kick him out. But she also seemed to be prettier and nicer than Aunt Petunia, so maybe she wouldn't get annoyed easily. Harry hoped that that was the case.

"You are welcome." Jess smiled at him, which was something else that confused him, why was everyone always smiling at him? "Hmm, now it’s nearly lunch time so I'm going to get started on making that."

"Oh, okay, what do you want me to do?" Harry asked.

"I beg your pardon?" Jess asked.

"I'm sorry!" Harry quickly apologised. "I meant what do you want me to make?" He added, hoping he hadn't done anything to get her mad.

"Make?" She repeated.

"Yes," Harry nodded. "for lunch, what do you want me to make? And is it just for you two and Natasha and Clint or do I have to make some for other people as well?" Harry asked.

"Do you normally cook?" Jess asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Yes," Harry nodded. "I've cooked for Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon and Dudley for ages."

"Right," Matt coughed. "well you don't have to cook here unless we ask you to and…we don’t really plan on asking you to cook."

"Oh," Harry frowned. "well...what do you want me to do?"

"What do you mean?" Matt asked.

"I mean do you want me to set up the table or clean something?" Harry asked.

"Well..." Jess paused and thought about it. "later when I call you then you can come and help me with the table.” She said, not seeing any harm in allowing him a small job like that. “Until then why don't you go and play with..."

"Harry!" A voice interrupted as Natasha and Clint entered the room.

"Them, why don't you go and play with them." Jess finished as she stood up. "Kids, why don't you go and play with Harry while I make lunch."

"Yes Mum." The kids chorused.

"Come on, mate." Clint said as he wrapped an arm around Harry's shoulders and pulled him with them as they exited the room.

"I want you to find the Dursley's, then torture them and kill them." Jess told Matt in a serious voice once she was sure the kids were out of hearing range. She had been told by Matt and the kids that Harry had been abused but hearing about it and seeing the evidence in front of her were two entirely different things.

"And how do you expect me to do that?" Matt blinked at her.

"That's for you to work out," She said as she kissed his cheek. "now I'm going to go and make a nice lunch for Harry, I hope he likes it. And later tonight you'll be ordering pizza for everyone, poor boy deserves a treat."

"Yes ma'am." Matt said with a mock salute.

"Good." Jess nodded with a pleased smile before she went over to start cooking.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"I'm glad you're staying with us." Natasha said as the two of them entered Clint's room.

"Thanks, me too." Harry said before he began looking around, he was very impressed by Clint's room.

It had a desk, mirror, wardrobe and bed like Dudley's but unlike Dudley's room this room was clean, even the bed was clean. On the desk was a notebook, a computer, a picture of the four family members and a few pencils and pens.  In the room there was also shelves with books on them and there was a couple of boxes in one corner that were filled with toys, the toys were all neatly placed inside the boxes instead of being thrown in random places on the floor. There was also a few posters put up around the room, one looked like a poster from an archery competition, another poster had Batman on it, Harry easily recognised the superhero, having seen him on TV a couple of times, not that he was ever allowed to watch for long.

Then there was another person who seemed familiar to Harry but he couldn't quite remember exactly who it was, it was a cartoon poster like the Batman one so Harry knew that it probably was not a real person. The person was dressed completely in green, he had a blonde beard and blonde hair peeking out of a green hood, he was wearing a green mask and had a bow and arrow in his hand. The person looked familiar but his name escaped Harry at the moment.

There was also one other thing in the room that Harry could not help but notice.

"You have a bow?" Harry gasped when he saw a bow that was resting on Clint's bed.

"Yeah," Clint grinned as he moved over and picked it up. "Dad takes me to archery on the weekends. But he won't let me keep arrows in my room though." Clint added that last part with a frown, as if keeping the arrows out of the reach of someone his age was the stupidest thing someone could ever do.

"Clint is really good at archery." Natasha added, she and Clint both knew that that was an understatement. In fact whenever Clint had missed it was always on purpose, he did so occasionally, mostly so he wouldn't gain too much attention from people. And getting perfects shots every time would get Clint a lot of attention. "Maybe he can teach you. I think you'd be good at it." Natasha added.

"I don't know," Harry frowned. "I don't think I'd be that good at it, I'm not that strong and I've never really used a bow before."

"Harry, you'll get stronger." Natasha told him in a confident voice.

"And if you've never used one then you don't know how good you'll be." Clint added as he held the bow out. "Here you go."

"Are...are you sure?" Harry asked, worried about damaging it, which was why he was looking at the bow like it was the most fragile thing in the world.

"Yeah, just take it and I'll show you how to use it." Clint responded.

"O...kay." Harry gulped as he took the bow from Clint, it was heavier than he had thought it would be but Harry was still able to hold it up.

"Now, you're right handed, right?" Clint asked.

"Um...yeah." Harry nodded.

"Okay, so hold it in your left hand." Clint told him.

Natasha watched with a smile as Clint began teaching Harry how to use the bow, Harry himself looked like this was the most interesting lesson he had ever been in. He was giving Clint his full attention, Natasha could see the intelligence behind his green eyes, she could spot in him the brains that he was trying to hide. She only hoped that she and Clint would be able to bring him out of his shell soon.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Later that day Harry was frowning as he looked at the pizza slice in front of him, he was downstairs and sat at the kitchen table. So far he had enjoyed his day a lot, after spending some time with Natasha and Clint he had come downstairs to help Jess with setting up the table for lunch time. She smiled and thanked him, which actually made Harry really happy, it was nice to be thanked. After that he had asked if there was any other work that he could do to help out.

Mrs Rushman - or 'Jess' which she insisted was what he would call her -simply smiled and patted him on the head before letting him help her carry the plates and cups back to the kitchen. Harry had been ready to start cleaning them when she had stopped him, turned him around, gently took him out the room and told him to go and play with Natasha and Clint. Honestly...Harry was not entirely convinced that he hadn't gone to heaven.

Right now Harry was sat at the table with the others, Mr Rushman...no...Matt…Matt had ordered some pizza for everyone as a treat. As everyone began eating Harry stared awkwardly at the pizza, he felt embarrassed for not eating like everyone else but his Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon had never let him have pizza. It looked so tasty, but it also looked very hot.

"What's wrong, Harry?" Matt asked when he noticed Harry wasn't eating. "Do you not like it? I ordered a plain cheese because I wasn't sure what toppings you'd like, do you want something else to eat?"

"No!" Harry quickly shook his head, not wanting to offend. "I...I've never eaten pizza before." Harry admitted.

"What? Never?!" Jess's eyes widened so much that Harry was worried they might explode.

"No," Harry replied. "Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia never let me have any."

"Your uncle and aunt are idiots." Clint told Harry, Harry blinked at that, he glanced at Matt and Jess and neither of them looked willing to tell Clint that he was wrong.

"Well, it's quite easy to eat." Matt told Harry. "If it's too hot then you just let it cool or I can cut it up for you, but usually you just grab the round end here and just carefully eat, if it's too hot then put it down and wait for a bit."

"If it's not then eat it quickly before Clint tries to steal it." Natasha grinned.

"I'm not going to steal his pizza," Clint rolled his eyes. "I'm going for yours instead." He said as his hand tried to go for Natasha's slice, only to be slapped away by her hand.

Harry couldn't help but smile at that, he lifted his slice into the air and slowly put the tip on his tongue, it was a little bit hot but seemed okay to eat. Harry bit down, his eyes widened as the brilliant taste spread throughout his mouth, he was almost reluctant to swallow it.

"Tastes good, right?" Jess asked him with a knowing smile.

"It tastes great." Harry smiled back, he had spent the day playing with Clint and Natasha and now he was eating what he felt was the most delicious food in the world, at this point Harry was sure that he had probably gone to heaven.

Comments

Suggestion: Have him learn an instrument, either piano (my favorite choice), violin, and/or the viola (Even though the viola clef is annoying). Along with martial arts, this could help with his finger dexterity and fine control, making handling a wand easier. It will also help him learn to do more things at once, right hand work, left hand work, reading music, paying attention to the tempo, and shaping whatever piece he is working on. A useful skill to learn early on I think and another thing that may help him with his spell work at the start. If you need any piece recommendations I can always offer some suggestions.

This is such an amazing chapter! I am wondering though how you are planning to ship Harry and Natasha when they are nearly siblings or atleast have the same parents with one being adopted? that would be bordering really close to incest
