2021-08-10 02:18:03 +0000 UTCugh, it frustrates me to hear about that "anarchist" ex-friend. i hate the people who call themselves anarchists but believe in corporate rule. they give us a bad name! real anarchists are socialists and we always have been, we believe in replacing hierarchical and oppressive institutions (like states and corporations) with democratic and decentralised organisations, run by and for our communities. i also wanted to comment on the ubi discussion. i think it's a bad idea because it incentivises the wrong kind of automation; one where you fire as many blue collar workers as you can, drastically reducing the power of labour unions and strikes, and creating a large disempowered unemployed class. a better solution - if we're ruling out socialist solutions which would require dramatic systemic changes - is implementing a cap on hours worked per week which decreases as automation increases, so worker demand stays the same; and a weekly minimum wage, so that workers stay well paid as automation takes over more work, reducing time worked per employee rather than reducing number of employees. this has multiple positive effects: keeping workers and unions empowered, freeing more time for people to exist beyond their work, and still allowing automation to make our lives easier. pair that with a negative tax scheme, where if you earn below a certain threshold you get given money to make up to that threshold, and you get an overall much better system than what a blanket ubi offers. i know this is an old video but i'm a new patron and i'm enjoying watching through these lwt reactions, they were a delightful surprise when i found out about them. thanks for doing what you do.
