I started laughing when you called Pearl and Lapis waifus. I don't know if I'd use that term for them myself, but I understand where your coming from. And you're not alone! Those two are some of THE most popular characters when it comes to ships for SU. Lapis DID recognize Steven as a gem. It's because of that and his kindness, she offered to take him back home with her. The backdrop of outer space was so magical to see the first time around for me! The music for the battle with the dopplegangers, when Steven's talking to Lapis on the Tower, also the ending theme that plays at the end of this episode are tracks that I listen to often. The cut to Garnet hopping and rolling out of the van when she didn't like Greg's music is one of my favorite comedic moments in the show. Also Ocean Gem has one of my favorite promo posters. The members of the show's crew would draw them for lots of the series' episodes before they'd premiere to get fans excited about what's coming. The poster for Ocean Gem had Lapis depicted mostly in silhouette, her back is to us, her head turned off to the side with her glassy mirror like eyes visible. In front of that are Steven and the Gems, Connie, Lion, and Greg. All in battle ready poses, save for Greg looking fearful. Y'all should look some of the promo posters for the episodes you've watched up sometime. (EDIT: You might want to wait until you finish the series though, spoilers come up on google sometimes unfortunately) They're all so cool and sometimes there's multiples drawn for a single episode.
