[The Lone Outsider] 20 – The start of a…cult?

[A/N: "YOU CAN'T DENY US! [BEST in Show Bakuretsucon 2013] Gurren Lagann" by BecauseImBored1 remains one of the best anime amvs I have ever seen, and it still remains nostalgic for me. I remember the first couple of animes that I watched, which were Magi, Mirai Nikki, Gurren Lagann, Eureka Seven, and so many more. If I hadn't seen those shows when I was young, I probably wouldn't be where I am today, for it is because of anime that I delved into Manga, then Novels, then Fanfics, and into the wide world of Stories, and eventually stepped head first into the hell known as being an Author and Writer]

In the basement of a small grocery store, in a large open room that was air-conditioned, two men wearing Plague Doctor outfits could be seen looking over a cadaver.

"What do you see?" The Good Doctor asked, testing the doctor across from them who was actively examining the cadaver.

"Three cracked ribs, internal bleeding, signs of a collapsed lung, multiple stab wounds, and also a bad liver," The other doctor answered.

"Good, what is the true cause of death?" The Good Doctor asked.

"If I were to hazard a guess, I would assume it would be due to the internal bleeding that was left untreated for too long after the beating they received," The second doctor answered with a guess.

"Good, however, I want you to look here. Do you see that?" The first doctor pointed towards a small piece of bone from the ribs that was poking into the heart.

"Obviously, even if the other injuries had not already proved fatal, the bone fragments that pierced the heart would have led to the death of this poor man within the day," The first doctor continued, though now that the other second doctor examined closer, there were indeed multiple fatal injuries that he clearly missed due to examining the more flamboyant and obvious injuries first.

"Thanks for showing me, Doctor," The second doctor thanked the other.

"No thanks are necessary. You are my student. Together, we will eradicate the Pestilence once and for all," The Doctor, the first figure in a Plague Doctor outfit, replied, clearly taking to 'Doctor' as a name.

The two figures were none other than SCP-049, the Plague Doctor, and Vale, the outsider. The two were, of course, known as the Reaping Doctors because they could seemingly bring someone back from the brink of death, though that was not far from the truth as either of the two could actually bring the dead back to life. Just one of them would bring back the dead in an...unusual manner and would raise them in a way that...left little to be desired.

The two's reputation and notoriety only continued to rise over the last few months as they served to be natural doctors who would patch up any that required their services for the right price, no questions asked. Seeing as most of the gangs and criminal elements of New York and the surrounding cities could not exactly go to the hospital with the injuries they commonly got on the job, the duo was a 'God-send,' though because of the duo's rules and ruthlessness when their rules were broken.

The rules?

No violence in the Clinic.

No weapons in the Clinic.

Rapists and child killers will not be tolerated and will be killed on sight.

In the clinic, everyone is equal, and it is a first come, first serve business.

Animals and Pets are allowed and, if needed, can be treated and examined.

There were more rules, but one thing the Criminals discovered is that the two doctors were very strict when it came to their rules, responded to threats violently, and proved that they could back up their rules after slaughtering multiple gangs overnight. However, their services were dependent on the wounds, illnesses, and injuries that the customers had, meaning the price for service could range from $100 to thousands, but always cheaper than what the Criminals would have to pay if they went the legal route and went to the Hospital.

[A/N: As an American, I can say without a doubt that our healthcare system needs a redo. It can cost an arm and a leg for simple treatment and medicine]

The two Reaper Doctors became such a valuable commodity that the gangs in the area began to protect and defend them openly, as their service, while not cheap, was a matter of life and death. The two doctors became an open secret in the underworld and became even more notorious for the strange, old-fashioned garments that they wore when meeting with customers.

The two doctors had no names yet answered to 'Doctor,' and many began to wonder and question who they could be, especially as men of their skills and strange attire.

So much so that some organizations were starting to get suspicious upon discovering these two doctors.

...

After burning the remains of the cadaver to ash and placing them in an urn, I sat down at my desk and looked upon the soul floating by my side, the very same soul that once inhabited the body that was now ash in a jar beside me.

"Any last words you'd like to say to your family?" I asked, gesturing towards the letter I was writing. Listening to the soul, I began to fluently write their last words in their handwriting before stamping the letter with our brand: two scythes crossed over with a skull sitting at the top between the heads of the scythes.

Just as I was sealing the letter and placing it and the urn in a wooden crate lined with soft material to protect the urn, I heard a chilly voice speak from behind me.

"You...thief. Taker...of the faithful..."

Tuning around, I was met with the visage of a Grimm Reaper. Before they continued their monologue, a black appendage ripped out from my back on my shoulder before shooting forward and piercing through the core of the reaper.

Raising the body of the reaper, I brought it closer.

"When will you guys learn your lesson? This is my turf. You guys should have sent someone stronger, maybe an angel? Would love to kill a biblically accurate angel of God," I commented as my mind wandered off-topic before focusing on the Reaper. With a mental thought, my appendage that was pierced through the reaper suddenly exploded with growth, sending sharp tentacles throughout the reaper's entire body, killing them instantly.

Taking the soul of the Reaper, I wiped it clean of all of its...prior influences before modifying it to suit my purposes.

Once done, I had two options: consume it or use it as an Omen, a Weeping Angel.

Shrugging, I consumed the soul, giving me a brief flash of all its knowledge and experiences.

Huh...go figure, the Reaper was only a few years old.

However, I did get an interesting bit of information from Reaper's memories.

There's a gate in New York's Central Park, a gate to what? Heaven and Hell.

That was interesting.

Was there more than one possible gate to Heaven and Hell that exists? Wait...the Gate Guardian that protects Eden.

The seemingly invincible Angel has a literal blade of fire that keeps everyone from approaching the gate it protects.

If that's an Angel...oh, I can't help but wonder what Heaven's army would look like.

What tier would these Angels rank at with their souls? 6? 7? 8? Even higher?

I guess I won't be able to tell until I catch myself an Angel, though I wonder if I would even be able to take on such a being, let alone the biblical God.

As the new player in town, the other reapers and soul-takers in the area felt like constantly challenging me. So far, I've slain every Reaper that's come my way, though they've all been small fry so far.

But enough about that, I guess it was time to confront the armed squad of soldiers that were waiting outside my small clinic and upstairs in the grocery store, where the store owner lay dead in a puddle of his own blood.
