Aftershock - A Week of Masks 20-24

Mask20
Working Title:
The Electric Hermit
Description: Coiled in dark forest greens with lightning-bring neon tracing its contours, this mask hums with a strange internal charge. Pom-poms sit like oversized earmuffs, muffling the noise of the outside world, while a fringe of glowing tendrils spills downward like a protective cloak. It is a face of retreat and radical preservation--of someone who's found safety in the shadow but never stopped glowing.
Verse:
"Inside the thicket,
a current stayed warm--
retreating not from fear,
but to spark its own form."

Mask21
Working Title:
The Court of Soft Grief
Description: A pastel swirl of melancholy and splendor, this mask wears its emotions with theatrical flair. Rosettes crown the head like delicate bonbons, each punctuated by ornate pearl centers. A golden sequin mustache adds a twist of absurdity--mocking or mourning, it's hard to tell. The ruffled collar frames it all in high drama, reminiscent of court jesters and heartbreakers who mask deep wounds in exaggerated beauty.
Verse:
"Rouged cheeks and pearled regret,
a mouth too glittered to confess.
The show goes on,
but grief plays lead."

Mask22
Working Title:
Bloom with a Bite
Description: Saturated in vibrant pinks and sequin shimmer, this mask is topped with a defiant floral flourish--part flower, part flame. Its eyes are sunken yet alert, surrounded by plush coral velvet and anchored by a beaded line that splits pleasure from restraint. The bold neon pink fringe spills like a tongue, a secret, or a scream barely held in check. A mask that dares you to underestimate softness.
Verse:
"Peals sharpened by firelight,
a bloom born of fury and blush.
Kiss me gently,
but know I draw blood."

Mask23
Working Title:
Tender Terrain
Description: Pale yarns marbled with the lightest blush swirl across the face like a soft unspoken map. A veil of delicate pink florals and sequins tumbles asummetrically across the mask--half crown, half camouflage. Despite its innocence, there's a quiet complexity beneath the frothy layers. This is a face built from whispers, bruised roses, and small, dignified refusals.
Verse:
"Don't mistake softness for surrender--
this bloom has roots in stone.
I wear petals like armor
and cry in languages you've never known."

Mask24
Working Title:
The Watchful Bloom
Description: Radiating in creamsicle tones, this mask wears an exaggerated orange brow like a furrowed sun, crowned with delicate pastel butterflies. The bold yellow beadwork surrounding the eyes feels at once childlike and vigilant--an insectoid guardian in chrysalis form. There's a subtle contradiction here: fierce expression and fragile ornament. It asks, "Can I be soft and still protect myself?
Verse:
"I kept my gaze wide open--
even when they said close your eyes.
Butterflies bloom from the tension,
and the velvet rage flies."
