November’s featured photo set is my second shoot with the magnificent Dio!

Back in late 2018, Dio was the first person to pose completely nude for this portrait series- a very fond memory of mine. Only 18 at the time, he possessed an incredible confidence in his body and expression that inspired me so much. A classical violist and computer scientist, Dio is kind, contained and polite, with a ferocious energy just beneath the surface.

For our second outing, we explored a park and the surrounding woods near his university. Fall is my favorite time of year for photography in New England- the variety in texture and color to be captured is incredible. It was a privilege to pose Dio’s vibrant movement and expression in such a beautiful environment.

When I showed Dio the finished photos, he was excited as always;

“I really love the way Ryan works the camera and the way he brings out the natural beauty of my skin. The shoot itself was so much fun even though I got a rash from lying in the dirt all day! Can’t wait for the next one!”

When I asked him about what our photoshoots mean to him, he told me;

“This photography is a means for self expression for me… to spread my wings and be a free bird. I will absolutely have it no other way. …I feel like I embody a lot of masculine qualities but I also embody a lot of feminine qualities. I feel like a great balance between both of them is super important in building myself as an individual and maintaining relationships throughout my life.”
