Making Life DOABLE with ADHD

When we make our goals or make our systems, or sometimes even when we make our coping strategies, we can often work it around a single version of ourselves... maybe two. But what about the rest? In this video, I talk about some of my recent struggles and what I have learned from it... and more importantly, what I'm going to do going forward.

Internalised ableism can play a big part in why we do that, tbh. And a lot of the messages we pick up as we grow up (especially since ADHD children often get corrected twice as much as their neurotypical peers) end up resulting in us believing we need to fully function all of the time, too, even though that's not actually how reality works.

Ultimately I'm looking for a similar experience to the learning about ADHD, for autism. My son received a dx 2 weeks ago, and my kids are why I deep-dived How to ADHD. I would love a How to Autism channel to watch (not trying to place extra pressure or anything, I'm working on rooting out PA-asking and thought the disclaimer would be good)

I'm like 99% sure I'm getting a bonus dx of Autism level 1 as soon as I can be tested; now that I'm aware of what masking looks and feels like, I can understand myself better and AuDHD fits me more than an ADHD dx. What AuDHD creators do others watch? Any chance Dr. B wants to start a companion channel? 🤞😁 He probably already would have if he had a desire to -- I'd love a channel rec from him though

Design…your life…for the version of herself who is NOT on her game…huh. Brilliant. Why is it that my first impulse, always, is to run straight past those brilliant, should-be-obvious points? Why do I always assume that I must move mountains so that I’ll be the Me who’s fully functional at all times?? Why do we ALL seem to do this? (By the way, I call this tendency “Pretending Really Hard as a Strategy”. It’s natural and deeply engrained, and absolutely does not & never has worked.)

I'm having trouble putting this into words. I work in maintenance, and sometimes I end up in analysis paralysis on jobs I know I've done before. It hurts because I feel like I'm underperforming when I know I'm just getting tangled in my thoughts. Having a set of templates, or check lists, is super helpful when I'm feeling sluggish, or unwilling to do the job I need to do. It helps me pick the whole job apart into smaller pieces so, even on my hardest days, I can do my best to perform as well as I do on my easiest days.
