That's all kinds of mad. I'd assumed part of the reason for the hiatuses was to allow him plan the story thoroughly, tie everything off neatly. I suppose that may yet be the case in later parts of HxH as things got increasingly complicated. (If you have any links to this interview, or some collection of his interviews, please share.)

2024-08-26 18:53:56 +0000 UTCI might have mentioned this a few times, but Togashi in an interview said that the only events of the story he had planned out when he started were the first 3 chapters. He knew some of the main characters, but not events. The fact that he can create a story that is so cohesive speaks to how much he knows his characters, since they are his only guide to what comes next in the story.

2024-05-22 04:45:50 +0000 UTCThis time on Hunter x Hunter, Gon and Killua sneak past the DMZ. Also, I wasn’t kidding about the North Korea thing. If it wasn’t obvious enough with the appraising episode and Greed Island, I’m pretty sure Togashi just writes whatever the hell he feels like on that given day lol.

2024-05-22 04:35:35 +0000 UTCI love that Killua and Gon and Knuckle and Shoot basically have the same conversation about all the people already dying, but Killua is the only one that does anything. It mostly comes down to him being the only one with the skillset and knowledge to safely and effectively disrupt the selection, but it feels so poetic that he's the one that will be risking his life and whatever the plan is more than the others just to save or delay as many deaths as he can
