That whole game is basically a parody of America, but Revengeance specifically dials it up to 11. Like his entire boss fight speech is memeable in all the best ways, with classic lines like “Don’t fuck with this senator”, or “Checked the internet lately?”, or “Making the mother of all omelets here, Jack. Can’t fret over every egg.” But aside from MG nonsense, I totally agree that Star was a great tribute to US hero culture. Horikoshi has made his love for western media, specifically comics, pretty well known. Looking forward to the next episode!

There are a lot of ways Star could have gone in reference to America, but overall (I'm writing this after having seen episode 2) it felt like a tribute to US hero culture, and a parody in the right ways.

2024-05-21 06:13:31 +0000 UTCAgpar wasn’t the only explicit Star Wars reference, can’t forget my man Wedge, who’s one of Star’s pilots this episode. Ahh it’s so good to be back. I saw a comment somewhere saying that Star’s quirk is basically a weird Nen ability, and I kinda agree. Feels like it’d fit right in. They even spent like 5 minutes discussing the quirk. They also mentioned the USA was the birthplace of heroes, and if I remember correctly from Vigilanties, they mention that the first heroes came out of Rhode Island of all places. An uncommon Rhode Island W I guess lol. I still need to watch the most recent episodes, but as a manga reader I’m very happy with everything so far. Star is an awesome character, and her presence on screen is everything I’d hoped for when I first read these chapters. She reminds me of the quote, “Be the American the Japanese think you are!” I think it originated alongside a picture of Senator Armstrong from Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, which checks out tbh.

2024-05-21 03:54:17 +0000 UTCI'm glad. There's a lot left to do with the story. What I'm curious about is whether there will be new arcs beginning thematically. Season 6 felt to me like the culmination of all of the thematic setup of the first 5 seasons, a major payoff which is carrying through to this season. Outside of enjoying and closing out all the things that have been created, I'm interested to see if there are new seeds planted.

No. There will be a season 8 too. I'm fact, they cut s7 down to 21 episodes in order to accommodate a season 8 since they need to make sure to have enough material.
