Poor shoji. He was treated so awful for his looks. he is just as handsome as anyone else. He's too sweet, he deserves love.

Leave it to Horikoshi to make me love Shoji and Koda (two characters that were kinda just there until now) in the span of one episode at the eleventh hour! Heck, even Mineta! His reaction totally reminded me that there is in fact a reason he is a part of 1A. Interestingly, to me, the lacking buildup makes it more powerful? Like, we all have some kind of privilege and blindspots. Just coz something didn't occur to you before doesn't mean it isn't true for other people. So I didn't think too hard about heteromorphs, because there's plenty on the heroes' side, students and pros, so it doesn't seem like much of an issue. And then this episode rips the blinders off, and you realize that, yeah, ofc there would be rampant discrimination against the heteromorphs in a world like MHA's, how did I not see that coming?

The rain that purifies the land.

I wonder if kurogiri was a retcon.

Perchik

another great reaction, I would like to request the name of the outro song and also for more goodwin content over the weekend. (only if possible)

He’s a pot stirrer. Everyone misreads that he’s responsible for every problem in the world of MHA but that couldn’t be further from the truth. He’s a product of it all the same and he just takes advantage of those issues as well.

great to see some shoji focus, he deserves it. i know sometimes this mini arc is controversial within the fandom and i won’t go deep into that (although if there are any BIPOC fans of goodwin who want to share their thoughts i’d be thankful to hear), but something that stuck out to me here is Spinner. i talk about AFO a lot, but what happened with Spinner might be one of the most sinister things he’s done. Spinner brings so much life to the LOV by being an everyman who wants to create change, then AFO reaches out like the devil and offers him an opportunity to make change. Now he’s basically a fleshy puppet, his words being twisted, his mind trapped in his body, his body being destroyed. the thing about AFO is that his responsibility for creating villains doesn’t diminish the root problems. for example, if he didn’t snatch Dabi, he would have just died and the world moves on, same with people on the dregs of MHA society. he is a DEEPLY predatory person, swaying people with words of affirmation and assurances because they were never given that by others. he simply scoops up the refuse laying on the bottom and uses them like tools, or even just toys. it thrusts the problem in the faces of heroes who now have to confront it.

Ian cooked for sure. The English cast has gotten so good. Especially the main characters.

crazizzle85

I’d expect nothing less from Brook himself.

Kota's VA had some really powerful lines as well

Hats off to Shoji’s voice actor Ian Sinclair finally getting a chance to give a great performance this episode, and for Horikoshi for giving us a chance to see that Shoji and Kota are true heroes.

Trey Goldsworthy

So the way shojis story goes is because his parents weren’t mutants and he was he kind of stayed hidden from the village. When Shoji saved the girl that outed him for being a mutant in a village. Then the villagers baptized shoji in order to purify the land.

Yeah the faster pacing of the anime is helping a lot. Having only one chapter worth of this content even when it was weekly genuinely just wasn't enough to keep you hooked so it felt like an endless spiral of cliffhangers that weren't leading anywhere for months at a time. So basically even smaller criticisms were inflated due to the drag

Jade

It’s mostly from manga readers on Twitter. And those that don’t particularly read…

Matthew Richson

For being somewhat unexpected, this is an extremely heavy episode. I hadn't heard anything about it beforehand but felt that this would likely be controversial

Alex G

This little mini arc has its fair share of critics. Mostly due to its lack of setup beforehand(there was some, but not much). Of course I was of the opinion of better late than never. So I was glad to see Shoji and Koda get some spotlight. Though there are a lot of people that take specific moments out of context and completely misread them. 😭
