The Kingswood Amelioration - Chapter 15

Comments

I hadn't written Mr Stone as being on the spectrum. Sometimes people are just dicks. Usually when they are there's a reason, and sometimes good people make bad choices. All will be revealed soon enough (don't worry, you won't be waiting as long as you did with Locky or the Year 10 prank lol) The information The Lads shared with Shane about Axel weren't very detailed, mostly because it was a very painful thing for them (especially Milo) and it's not something they like to talk about. You'll see more of what I mean about that soon 😊 Nicky shutting himself off like that really is worrying. As with most things, there's a reason, which will all be revealed along with what really happened on that call... And yes, a lot of ameliorating still to take place. I never said it wouldn't get worse before it gets better 😁

Interesting thoughts on Mr Stone and Nicky. Just as they do in real life, sometimes people make bad choices. Perhaps that's what's happened here. Danny can't stop himself when it comes to helping people sometimes. It was a risky move what he did with David and Shane but thankfully it worked out. Josh is fun to write (outside of his big dramatic storylines I mean) because he is so wonderfully confident, but at the same time has absolutely no common sense. As I think I may have described him before, 'He's not stupid, but he's definitely an idiot!' The Mark/Josh stuff is difficult as Josh isn't being deliberately unpleasant, he's just not very mature yet and quite insecure beased on his own sense of self-worth. There are definitely rocky times ahead! Rob is definitely taking longer to develop as a character than others (an intentional choice, as people mature at different speeds) but he is finally starting to find himself, both as a person and as a brother. Thanks as always for the comments, it's wonderful to read your thoughts and reflections.

Yeah, I had hope that conversation would lead to David being more involved with their dorm, but their storylines this year are mostly with other characters. Although it doesn't seem like the group is leaving them out, it feels like David is the one who's mostly interacting with different characters. I wonder if it's because they're used to being left out or it's just where their storylines happened to go. I guess at least now that things with Shane have been resolved maybe David will actually go to the gym with Danny, Shane and Mark, which does include character from their dorm.

David is such a cute boy! 🥰 They have a bf now and the things go now better with their mentee Shane too! I love that! But on the other side they are not so intimate connected to their friends in their dorm. The serious conversation in book 4, after the camera-story is revealed, they told their friends about their feelings about being left out. But so far in this book they are still not a big part the intimate sessions within the dorm. What do you all think about that? Or am I wrong?

Mr Luigi

My thoughts about Josh/Mark: Josh’s behaviour is very disappointing but on the other hand remember the kiss of Mark with Mr Rudd! So I'm disappointed with both boys. I don't see where this is going... but there must be a serious discussion in the near future...

Mr Luigi

After Mr Stone's talk with Gray about Nicky, now I wonder if he used the punishment as an excuse to make Nicky break up with Gray, with the real reason being he thinks Gray can do better. If that's the case, I get that he cares about his son and wants him to find someone with good career prospects, but he'll be way out of line. If this was really it, I don't know what he has over Nicky that made him comply, but I hope they raise him a metaphorical middle finger by getting back together. Danny's strategy for David and Shane was crazy, but effective, and selfless because one of the steps was making them both hate him. I'm not surprised David eventually figured it out, they're smart. So the reason for Shane hating David really was the changes to his mentoring method as a reaction to Axel. Thinking they could have done something different is very David, but it just made them change from good to bad mentoring. Now they get to have a fresh start and I'm glad. Josh taking charge was unexpected, it's a shame it was all to lead the group into enacting a bad plan. He literally pointed out the mistake of repeating a prank they already knew about, which was a good point, and then suggested the exact same thing. While the others should have checked with him about the prank last year, Josh also shouldn't talk about mentors pranking mentees with them until they did their own prank. As soon as their prank failed again, the Lads doing it back to them was obvious, but welcome. Danny's comparison to Mark between Josh and Gregory was heavy, but it sucks that it's actually spot on. Of course, they're not similar in every aspect, Josh isn't a horrible person like Greg. But there's enough similarities between how they treated Mark that he should have a difficult conversation with him. Which he probably won't for now, but they're going to break up any minute now. Rich made a good point about the similarity between Milo and this new version of Rob. Last year, Milo's sex craze felt very different from his older brother, but now it turns out that aspect was just being blocked by Rob's body image issues. I'm glad his Halloween experience gained him that confidence. But he needs to be careful with having this many dates, he already used the wrong date's name while talking to Danny, one day he may actually call his date by the wrong name. Rapid fire time. This chapter had a lot of really funny moments. I appreciated Blane's gesture towards Nicky because of his body image issues. Danny was on top form, he was of good help in multiple storylines on a single chapter. Gray not wanting to go to his best friend for support to not get him into another argument with his jealous boyfriend was thoughtful, but makes me sad for him.

Davide

So it sounds like Mr. Stone's punishment for Nicky was NOT that he had to break up with Gray. What was the punishment, then? Stone's comments to Gray about Nicky were ham-handed and insensitive. Is he on the autism spectrum? Somehow I just knew the Speedo episode was coming. Glad that there's hope in the David/Shane relationship. It's surprising that Shane was not filled in by his dorm-mates about Axel. Nicky seems to be spiraling down into a major episode, and Mikey seems like the only factor keeping it from taking place. Seems like there's a lot of amelioration left to take place overall.

Rutabaga

Danny's idea was risky, but sometimes risks pay off. Josh is a delight to write, although they all are really. Those moments where they just get to be themselves and have silly dailogue are some of my favourites to write. Josh's obliviousness is so entertaining to use like that. And indeed, finally answers are revealed. They may be slightly anti-climactic, but you know now anyway. There are definitely hard conversations coming Mark's direction, one way or another. Interesting thoughts on Rob and Milo. In some regards, they are so wildly different, but then there are parts of them that are so wonderfully alike. I've enjoyed developing them both apart and together. Yeah, Mr Stone is a strange one. This may count as a slight spoiler, but when it comes to Mr Stone and Gray, they both only have each other. Mr Stone lost his wife and Gray lost his mother and now it's just the two of them. I'm not saying this is an excuse, but that kind of dynamic can really skew a person's thoughts and actions.

Matthew Smith

Excellent, I do love to make people laugh. Danny is so creative sometimes, he really is excellent at looking after his friends. Sadly he's not quite as good at looking after himself. Mark and Josh... yeah, sometimes love alone isn't enough to maintain things.

Matthew Smith

Funny you should mention that. No spoilers but... something is coming!

When this volume ends and you do more Patreon exclusive one shots, can we have one for this Halloween from the perspective of the lads? I always enjoy the Halloween chapters and I'm a bit sad we mostly skipped this year's. But this Halloween could be so much better from their perspective, it would make skipping it for now worth it.

Davide

Wow, this chapter made me laugh out at *several* points. I love it. Heroes of this chapter, besides Danny, I may give Mikey a vote too, for making Nicky eat and going to the cook club. Danny sure is, not only for the Shane and David thing which I'm glad they're doing better, but also for the Gray-sandwich scene. Looks like the time of Mark and Josh's breakup is near...

SPOILERS in the comment - Make sure you read the chapter first. So happy to see David and Shane finally open up about things - kudos to Danny for a brilliant idea. I hope we get to see more of the interactions between the two of them. I feel they probably have a lot in common. Josh is hilarious when he is just being himself. His ninja moves and his obliviousness about being the cause of the pranks going wrong is classic Josh. At least now we know what the original prank that didn't work was - a long-standing mystery has been solved. On a more serious note, I hope he and Mark will have a discussion about Danny's insight into Mark being in a somewhat familiar situation as he was in the past. Rob is so much more confident now about guys. And a little like the early Kingswood Milo - those Wilson brothers are so much alike. Mr. Stone's comments about Nicky bother me. I realize that as a father, and a single parent on top of that, it's tough believing anyone is good enough for your child. There just seemed to be something about what he said that makes me worry we've had it wrong and maybe he did do something to cause the break-up. I think this week Danny gets my hero vote for his insightfulness and a great plan for bringing David and Shane together.
