If you've never been there it's a nice experience, but if you live in Munich you get annoyed by the hype. Nowadays it is more like a carnival than a traditional bavarian fair. Local media make up weird trends, social media is flooded with content, plastic lederhosen everywhere, hotels triple their price, people from all over the world walk drunk on the streets... It's like the whole city is going berserk for three weeks and you can't avoid it.
