A bit of News – October 2018

Hey, how are you? I am doing okay. I have stuff to say about current problems about things outside the story so let’s get right on it.

Let’s start, against better knowledge, with the good news: The buffer is way too big. As of the time of me writing this it is somewhere around 35 chapters. I will soon initiate some sort of dumping strategy. Whether this means chapters everyday for the next few weeks or double chapters on some days or whatever remains to be seen, but there will be something happening to that effect.

Next, we need to talk about my current Patreon model. It doesn’t work all that well. Going down the list from cheapest to costliest, here are the individual problems:
 

1$: I don’t want to annoy anyone, but you are getting a whole bunch for very little. I also don’t want to overcharge for the essential service. I am think about removing voting right for the side story and maybe raising the cost to 2$, after realizing that, after exchange and cuts by Patreon and PayPal, I get like 50 cents out of each of these. I know this will be unpopular and may look greedy, but I am willing to shoulder that now so I don’t have to make the explanation to a larger crowd.

5$: Actually, this is the one tier I am really happy with. Side story vote would be put here. For the PDF’s, they are still something I want to do, but so far I find myself unable to get to them (on motivation for the most part), so I will remove them from the description. If they do make their return, they will land here. 

10$: I just can’t supply cameos quickly enough that it feels like you get what you pay for. What I am thinking about is giving the 10$ people access to 5 chapters in advance, rather than 3, and their own chatroom on Discord to discuss that. Of course everyone who already paid for this Tier will still get their cameos.

15$: This is the commission model moving forwards, I think. Barely anybody ever uses their 25$ opportunity to ask me to write stuff, so I think it’s just not something sought after. Little stories of that length are also a lot less work. When in this tier you could still ask me to do longer stories, I may oblige if I have little else to do.

25$: As stated beforehand, barely anybody uses their short story stuff, so I am rescinding that from the tier (you still get stuff from the 15$ one) and replacing it with something usable, namely access to the buffer as it goes up for the proofreaders. That means getting them via google docs. I usually don’t change chapters once they are written, but it still would be something like beta access to the story, meaning that some thing will be wrong and you may read ahead of the proofreaders. 

I am unsure whether or not I also want to give you commentating rights on the g-doc itself. I kind of want to reserve that for the proofreaders themselves because I feel it could get muddled otherwise. Will need to think about that one.

500$: This remains a joke. Don’t do it unless you are a Saudi prince or something.

All of this would also mean that I take the lids off the current tiers, so no more sold out stuff.

This is all just an idea right now, albeit one highly likely to come true. If you dislike any of these changes or have other suggestions let me know, I am largely open to other possibilities. Just keep in mind they need to be sustainable.
