About 3 months before the release of Alien: Romulus (sorry Star Trek fans no Romulans here), AMC theater did a special theatrical release of Alien. Since I was born after the release of the movie, I finally got to experience watching it in theater. There was an interesting 30 minute interview/discussion between Ridley Scott and Fede Alvarez, the director of Alien: Romulus. At one point of the conversation, Ridley had to be creative in creating the illusion of the alien spacecraft being enormous with a "film budget that was much smaller than Star Wars." The first trick he did was using his own kids to play the three astronauts when they explored the spacecraft. With the oldest kid being 6 years old (I believe) and using wide angle lens, a 7 feet spacecraft hull would look very tall when placed next to the little kids. The 2nd trick was using a two cameras of making the scale model spaceship to be bigger than it was. I do not know the scale of the model, but Ridley described the cliffs and butte of the landscape where the ship crashed landed of being slightly higher than his knees. He had one camera looking at the scale model ship. A 2nd camera would look through the eye piece of the first camera.
