Game Of Thrones 8x4, 8x5, Series Finale Full Reactions

What a crash landing indeed...however regretfully negative I may have come off at the end of this, I hope the biggest take-away is I absolutely love 95% of this show. Really up till these last 3. An all-timer.

Let me know if there's anything I should know before HOD! Posting one one-season show next quickly then House of Dragons time! (along with one other)

Game Of Thrones 8x4, 8x5, Series Finale Full Reactions

You probably won't see this, but I'd like to explain Sansa's relationship with Daenerys, and why it was totally justified and what it meant about her character. In the beginning, Sansa didn't like her because she didn't trust her. Sansa went from one tyrant to another, she wasn't about to put herself and the entire North in the hands of another. She didn't know her, to her she was just another person trying to place a title on herself. It didn't matter what anyone said, Sansa won't trust someone until she knows them personally, especially if they're trying for a throne. Which is totally in character for her and what she's been through. You could see that once she started to get to know Daenerys, she opened up enough to trust her before the Great War, but when she asked what would happen to the North after she claims the throne, it made it disappear. Sansa stands for the North, and the North alone. When she speaks, she speaks for her people. She knew the North needed to be an independent kingdom again, they've been fighting for it for years. When Daenerys was instantly put off and displeased by the idea, it didn't matter what she was here for, or what she stood for— she wouldn't give the North what it needed, and that was Sansa's priority. Because of this, this allowed Sansa to truly see her — once distrust sets in, you can always find more to be wary about. Once again, Sansa has been under tyrant to under tyrant. Cersei, Jofferey, Little finger, Ramsey, even her aunt Lysa. She knows the look, she knew Daenerys would not be a good queen. Of course she told Tyrion about Jon, it was the right thing to do. Arya has said it before, 'Sansa is the smartest person I've ever met', and that was put there for a reason. Sansa *saw* Daenerys for what she was, and she knew world would tremble beneath her rule. She was one of the only ones to see it, and given her experience, it makes sense. And it was totally in character. Of course she's the best person for the North to follow, she was the only one the put them first. She knew going against Daenerys was risky, she knew betraying Jon was awful, you could see it on her face. But she knew for the sake of the North, and for all of Westeros, she had to. I hate when people hate on her for having a strategic mind, or for seeing things for how they are. Even after what happened with Daenerys, people call her the worst for not liking her, but she was just seeing her- truly seeing her. Sansa is a ruler, she has a ruler's mindset, but she's the only one people put down for it. In my opinion— let me make that clear again, MY OPINION, Sansa was the true winner of the game of thrones. She knew what she wanted, she knew what was needed, and she knew what the people stood for. She knew what needed to be done and she *did* it, and she knows she didn't do it alone, while most would refuse to admit it. Sansa Stark, First of Her Name, The Red Wolf, The Liberator, The Queen in The North.

When you started talking about Dexter I had to stop because I just started watching it lol Also yeah this was as bad as I thought it would be , but at least I’ve seen it for myself i guess 😝

Bangtan is life

I will always hate the show writers for this. ANYONE who has read the books knows that this is NOT who Daenerys is. She has suffered loss before in the books but she still held to her values. This was the show runners wanting to end the show quickly so they could move onto another project they had been assigned to (Star Wars movie). GRRM was correct in calling this poorly made fanfiction. After the writers started ignoring the books and making their own way was when everything went to shit. Honestly I didn't watch this with you I just watched your commentary afterwards because it is too difficult to watch a character that I have loved and gotten to know so well for so many years act this way. GRRM (the author of the books) gave an official statement that this is NOT how the books will end (the bastards couldn't be patient enough for him to finish writing the books before they ended the show)! Its not just Daenerys' story that was completely ruined they went off the books building all these different characters stories for so long but as soon as they make their own way so many massive holes form! The books are now my only solace where I get to see my girl Daenerys as she was always meant to be. In the last book she still has not even left Essos or meet Tyrion yet, Sansa is still in the vale and Jamies character development arch is being treated how it should be. Hell in the books Jon and Brianne are DEAD. And the fact that Jon is STILL alive at the end makes no sense I agree with you there! The show got SO much criticism for bringing him back which I agree with. A show where supposedly noone is safe suddenly having this one person who can't be killed destroys so much. I hate the show for making me despise Sansa when I love her so much in the books. And I like Bran I think he is interesting his chapters always included fascinating lore when he was beyond the wall but the decision to make him KING?! That was done purely because the writers wanted to do something unexpected which should never be the driving force behind a plot and we all know it. The entire ending was pro-stark propaganda. There was an ongoing joke that the last episode was written by Catelyn Stark. Sansa is a Queen, Bran is a King, Arya is living her dream and the "bastard" she always hated is living in exile. Also you spoke of doing a disservice to the actors well Emilia Clarke didn't know what was being done to her character until she saw it happen alongside the rest of the world! When she was acting she was just looking at a greenscreen she had no idea what she was supposed to be destroying. Its honestly heartbreaking because she loved Daenerys' character so much.

Kathryn

I’m having the same problem lol I just joined the Patreon smh

Kenny

It seems like all game of thrones reactions are deleted. Can you confirm this? what happend?

Slaizio

Wow.. It was just as terrible as I remembered it. I'm so sorry you had to suffer like all of us, after what it is, to me, one of the greatest shows I've seen.. It was an incredible ride, and in the end they really blew it bad.. Where to begin? Cersei dying with Jaime crushed, it was mercy to me, she deserved an awful death, alone, at the hands of someone, maybe arya, maybe dany.. The resuscitation of jon, an then the reveling of his real family all to end up on the wall??? Dany being turn into a and evil mad woman after all that we saw on other seasons, no.. Bran being king? what? It's a joke really.. And the final scenes with them making jokes, like so so bad.. I could go on, but I don't want too haha.. I got mad again, like when I watched it for the first time.. Anyway I'm glad you enjoyed most of it, and yes in time I do believe you would be able to appreciate just the good parts for what a great show it was overall.. Can't wait for you to watch HOTD, I would also recommend, not researching anything before, just watch, take notes, pause if you have to (There's a lot of new names, similar names, information..), and ask in comments if you have doubts.. just so that you don't get spoiled. Would love to watch you react to any extra content from GOT, bloopers, making of episodes or seasons ,interviews, etc.. Thank you Michael for this amazing reaction ride, as always really appreciate your honesty, your thoughts, and just you :)

real !!

onlyastarion

i wasn’t looking for a happy ending. i was looking for a ending that made sense lmao. i don’t really have the energy to list all the problems all over again but it’s VERY obvious what’s wrong with it and how rushed it is.

onlyastarion

I’m loving HOTD, can’t wait for you to react to it! Can’t believe GoT is already over though!

Storm

this 100% — so many people think it’s just about her wanting to rule (like how she always wanted to be queen per S1) but I think it truly was that she like all of the north don’t trust outsiders at all. I don’t blame her especially after everything she has been through — & with the way it ended it makes sense that they want to remain independent (like she says when she is talking with dany earlier this season) but still be able to coexist since bran is the king.

Virginia

House of the Dragons is so so good, I cannot wait to rewatch the first season with your videos. Cheers on getting to the end of GOT.

Dani May

This is my opinion but I feel like dany didn’t just turn crazy. The entire show she has killed people, death never seemed to phase her as long as it got her to her goal. Her logic seemed to be I will sacrifice the few to save the many. She lacked the understanding that eventually the few becomes the many. Her whole life she has had one goal the iron throne. She’s swore since the beginning there is nothing she wouldn’t do for it. She was made to be a conqueror not a ruler. However the writing in the last season was handled terribly on all accounts. Jon should have been king but I understand why he couldn’t be. In my mind I hate the way the show ended but at the same time I couldn’t have pictured it ending any different. As for Sansa she learned a lot form little finger and Cersei and Joffrey and Bolton. It wasn’t crazy to me that she didn’t trust dany. Because of what she has seen. It turns out she was right not to trust her.

Zoei McKenzie

If you think this has a happy ending you haven’t been paying attention- Ramsey Bolton

Zoei McKenzie

Grey worm takes the unsullied to Isle of Naath which was Missandei homeland which greyworm promised to take her back one day to see the beaches.🥺

JoY

second this!

Dani May

I read recently GRRM things HOD will take at least 6 seasons and he always thought GOT would take around 10. It is such a shame they rushed it.

Dani May

Things to watch after GoT and before HOTD is the documentary they made for the last season. It's called The Last Watch.

Kayla

yessssssssss

Lisa Briley

Any updates on HSMTMTS S3 commentary? :)

JT

Hi! First of all, I'm glad that despite the ending you still enjoyed the show as a whole. I've been meaning to rewatch GoT and seeing you upload the reactions felt like a good moment to do so. I never had anything big against how it all ended, except for the last sections from the moment Bran was chosen to become the new king. It just felt very underwhelming. As for Dany snapping... There was always something that made me unsure of her future in Westeros. I especially liked the comment you made about her not feeling the big loss since season one. All those people close to her dying, losing her dragons, not feeling welcome, the uncertainty about Jon, Varys' betrayal, to me, could very well be the reason why she turned. It was a lot. Like pretty much everyone has said, this season was just too rushed and very much imbalanced. However, I do think that if it was split into two seasons (the fight with the White Walkers and Dany taking over Westeros) or just made into a normal length season it would feel better. A lot of the disappointment over the ending was, at least to me, not being able to see the aftermath of Dany burning King's Landing and/or Bran ruling over Westeros. It wouldn't be as good a writing as we've seen before, but it might've been okay. Once again, I really enjoyed experiencing the show with you, as well as seeing other people's comments. There's a lot of great content left for you to check out – the behind the scenes footage, hbo's making of series, the cast's interactions, podcasts, even the books. I hope you'll enjoy these as well and I can't wait to see your videos on House of Dragon.

aen

also jon should be dead for what he did and i will stand by that forever #justiceforblondedragonlady

Kerry

there's a theory that drogon took dany's body to asshai where the red priestesses are to resurrect her, so maybe there's a chance? idk but i think there's a chance that we might see drogon again if there's another spin off sequel

Kerry

ok I am genuinely so sorry for spamming I might delete some comments I’m just going through it so I’m a bit unhinged but at least Jon snow is the loml

emmie jeans

JON SNOW IS ALSO THE LOML THAT MAN IS SO BEAUTIFUL AND HIS EYES ARE GORGEOUS AND HE IS SO NOBLE. PLS LETS FORGET THIS ENDING AND JUST TALK ABOUT JON SNOW COS HE REALLY IS THE BEST MAN.

emmie jeans

Even if I didn't really like the way they ended the show this was just great television. Many of my friends and family used watch this all together and talk so much about it and different theories. I watched so many great reactions to this .

Joy

also why did tyrions character absolutely dissolve over the last season or so and then suddenly he was the noble kings hand again.

emmie jeans

fav part of last episode was jon killing dany because him letting that happen would’ve made the least sense out of everything that could’ve happened

emmie jeans

also why did it take dany 6 full seasons to just get to westeros and only like 2 episodes to take over the whole of westeros?

emmie jeans

sansa: the north doesnt bend the knee, not even to her brother... also sansa: queen in the north

moon

Jon killing dany, and her army who swore to protect her and kill all her enemies let jon live lol and drogon too. and then tyrion a prisoner making a speech and establishing rules for the crown is just pathetic

moon

I actually watched this alongside you for the first time and I’m just?? Like I liked everything but the last two episodes, I don’t even know where it went wrong? Everything just feels a little bit off?? Also why did Jon Snow constantly save people and get nothing?? Like this man became the centre of everything and then?? Idrk what happened??? Like where did it go wrong idk. It just feels weird and unfulfilling.

emmie jeans

Same!!

Jenna

I understand your point Michael, but her anger doesn't justify her burning innocent people for like 20 minutes, her anger was against cersei, if killing people had any purpose I wouldn't be so angry, but it had no purpose, the writers just wanted to put her as the villain. the mad queen. they build up her character in 7 seasons and then she becomes the mad queen in 2 episodes lol its really not understandable to me. this is just bad writing. she was an amazing person and they destroyed her character in two episodes, just like that

moon

As far as filler stuff before you get into HoT D I suggest you go and watch some of the parodies/skits/musicals available on YouTube about Game of Thrones. The Cold Play musical is great. Seth Myers brings Jon Snow/the Red Witch to a dinner party are both really funny.

Joey

THANK YOU!!! I'm the same as you. The pacing was the only issue for me. Dany going mad was foreshadowed since like season two. She almost burnt cities to the ground so many times but was held back by people. The people who say it came out of nowhere had Dany blinders on. Bran being King was kind of silly but whatever. My favorite character has always been Sansa and they did justice to her character.

Tiffany

I must be diseased with optimism because I never had a fallout with this show. Nowwww that is not to say I LOVED how it ended because I didn't and I wish so many things were different and I also agree with everyone on the pretty bad writing. It is just the perspective I kept. I just never let those things bother me to the point I couldn't look at Game of Thrones for 3 years like a lot of others. I know this attitude towards the show rubs some people the wrong way and I even get accused of being brainless but whatever. I had no issues with Dany going mad. I felt it was foreshadowed enough in the show and I swear tons of people were talking about it before it happened then suddenly when it did it happen, those people were nowhere to be found. The pacing was a big issue for a lot of people and for me as well cuz it was even more rushed than I already planned for when we found out there were only 13 episodes left. I prepared myself for a short battle for winterfell. I prepared myself for the fast travel across westeros... I didn't prepare myself for the epilogue feeling the way it did. So in the end my biggest issue was there not being 1 or 2 more episodes to see the after effects of Dany dying and Bran being king. If all of that were a bit more fleshed out I would have been perfectly fine with the ending. But yeah, House of the Dragon is here and we're back to flawless writing so I'll be sticking around for your reactions to it.

Joey

Loved so many of your comments here! Especially on Varys "is the last consistent character". Varys, the Hound and Sansa ultimately became my favourite three characters at the end. Mainly because all three remain true to their values, principles, and desires, no matter the cost to themselves. Sansa witnessed so much horror inflicted on her family, herself, her homeland, her ancestry, that she was willing to die fighting for its independence regardless of the outcome. I respect that alot, honestly look forward to seeing Queen Sansa if she's included in any future sequels.

Tara L

they wanted to do a star wars trilogy so they rushed it, (which never even happened lmao, what a waste) but they hadnt been following GRRM's storyline for a while despite him explaining what happened in future books

onlyastarion

Deflated is just the best description of the end of this show. I felt like I also watched the last episode in a constant state of incredulousness, like the whole show was for nothing. It's basically just another cycle in a long history of the same old human power game shit that will go on, despite Bran being the new king. And maybe that was the point of the whole thing? But I was still hoping for something grand and thought-provoking and meaningful, and this ending was just not it for me (also 100% agree with the last season of Dexter). Thank you for taking the GOT journey with us!

jennptx

I saw this comment on youtube and it is very good to define this season: "brienne closing the book before the ink has had time to dry is the best analogy for what the show has become."

moon

I agree, btw. People say Seasons 4-5 were the prime era but 6-7 were it for me. I loved the whole thing outside of the last season.

SNBangtan

bran being king is terrible and it doesn’t make sense. why? BECAUSE BRAN SAID HIMSELF “I AM NO LONGER BRAN, I CANT BE LORD OR KING OF ANYTHING, BECAUSE I AM THE THREE EYED RAVEN” but then he suddenly can be king? and also he can see the future so he knew everything that was going to happen, and let it happen anyway.

moon

and guys let’s remember a lot of things, daenerys giving gendry the name baratheon actually makes him the heir to the throne 💀 the writers didn’t think that? arya, sansa saying that they don’t need anyone, it’s just really annoying because they needed help from others to survive, i could name a lot of people that helped them and saved them and died because of that, and now saying that don’t need anyone? it’s just to cold for me. and also, drogon not killing jon after he murders his mother? really? make it make sense. and destroying the throne. and dany’s army that swore to protect her and kill her enemies let jon and the others live 💀 missandei not telling grey w that naath has deadly butterflies 💀

moon

what the writers did to daenerys character is just horrific. and i don’t say that because she was my favorite, when the last season dropped i said to my friends that i knew that dany was going to die. i was okay with that, i don’t care if my favs die (i will cry for weeks? yeah but it’s fine) but i’m okay with that. just like with tony stark, joel miller, they were my favorite characters but their deaths made sense. i’m not asking for a heroic death, but they were making daenerys the biggest villain of the season, it wasn’t the night king, it wasn’t cersei, it was her, they put her as the biggest villain. and if you watched the show you know that doesn’t make sense, “oh but she lost everyone and goes crazy like her father”, spare me, we never saw that in the entire show, and dany was literally raped on the first episode, her brother abused her, drogo died, she suffered a lot before and she never showed any signs of madness. “but she was violent”, tell who wasn’t? and tell me who were the targets, bad people, people that wanted her death, people that killed children and crucified them, people that make others slaves. i don’t see how her violence is different from jon’s, from arya’s. but somehow she is the one called mad queen. “but in the books the targaryens went mad”… this is the show, not the books. she already had the throne, she already had cersei, she literally won.. and then suddenly, she decides to kill everyone, the people. the common people, things that she never did. how this makes sense? cersei was the one who took the ones she loved, and she had her. and she won, but then killing innocent people for no reason… i will never forgive that, because it doesn’t make sense, they turned her into a crazy mad woman and villain to kill her.

moon

Greyworm was going to Naath--Misandei's home. The one they were going to grow old in together. In defense of Greyworm btw, he's a soldier and he's been consistently single-minded in his loyalty to his Queen, a loyalty built from gratitude for freeing him from his life as a slave and weapon, and freeing his people too. That's a powerful thing. And unlike Dany, his stomach for war and his ruthlessness was always a part of him. He had a very clear sense of justice and duty. And any people in the world would say that the penalty for killing their Queen/King, is death. Jon would have too. Him wanting to see Jon and Tyrion dead--people his Queen let in, people she trusted and even loved, betray her? Fair. Not to mention everything they had to do to get where they are, everything they lost and sacrificed and the moment they had it, she was killed. I would have been big mad too.

SNBangtan

i can say that HOTD will be a breath of fresh air after watching this finale. very excited for you to get in to it

cass

the character assasination of dany is just unforgivable but i could’ve tolerated it if it set up an actual good ending. i did enjoy the first 3 episodes of this season for the most part, but the last 3 are just painful to watch. the writing feels so lazy and random. i feel like the writers were just like “what if we wrote the most unsatisfactory season finale ever” and did just that.

cass

yess yuli. the writers completely destroyed her character, i remember when they were reading the script, and kit (jon’s actor) started crying, i will never forgive what they did. never. dany was not like that, she’s the best female character i’ve ever seen. and i hated even most seeing fans saying that she was like that, like??? hello? are we watching the same show? THE daenerys? who freed slaves and armies, and gave them their life, and a choice to leave, they followed her because they’ve chose to. she lost her dragon to save jon and some 5 people… she fought against the night king and lost a lot of her people and jorah. dany is a queen, she’s violent for sure but just like everyone else in this show has to be to survive, but a least she did more than anyone. i will never forgive.

moon

All I'm going to say is, "justice for Dany!" I hate what they did to her character 😩😩😩😩😢😢

Yuli

"It just doesn't feel like game of thrones" - exactly how I felt after finishing season 8. Even if you were to say the season was only bad compared to the previous seasons, it just wasn't game of thrones. Also agree with seasons 5-7 still being really solid despite some flaws. Season 7 dialogue had fallen off some, but nothing at all like season 8. 6>5>7>....8 My random guess about season 8 is that the writers were exhausted and so ready to end the saga after 7 consecutive seasons of GOT, combined with maybe inflated egos about them creating 'the best TV series of all time', and so they thought they could get away with some half-assed bullshit.

Sean

Thank you so much for taking us through your journey!! and this show will always be im my top 3 no matter what i just adore it and love it. Daenerys is my favorite character so u could only imagine the disappointment i felt when i watched those last three eps and till this day i still cry so fucking much watching her death scene, drogon burning the iron throne and taking her away somewhere.

wonyojk

It's so hard to watch the episode in Kings Landing again. Of all the mistakes the writers made, of all the character they did dirty, I will never forgive them for what they did to Danaerys. I'm not even someone who likes neat, tidy endings. It's not like I'm upset she didn't end up on the throne. I'm fine with her dying. And I was glad Jamie went back to Cersei too, for example. But taking a strong female leader who just objectively had a better resume than any of the men who were up for the throne over the series (including Jon) and turning her, seemingly out of nowhere, into a crazy, hysterical woman who snapped and went against everything she was, was just so degrading. She deserved better. And I hear your argument about loss but let's not forget she lost 2 dragons...HER CHILDREN. And she lost Jorah multiple times. I'm not saying Misandei wasn't special...but differently situated enough that it was enough for her to snap? I don't buy it. And It was frustrating to see the people we trust complicit in maligning her character too ((Sansa, Varys, Tyrion, Jon), vilifying her for reasons that were blatantly hypocritical. (Jon getting squeamish about her executing Varys even though he was openly attempting to unseat her when he executed a man just for disobeying him (Slant at the Wall) for example). Everyone and their mother was just treating it like fact that "Jon would be a better leader" when the man would have lost every battle he was a part of if not for other's saving the day, repeatedly made short-sighted decisions that made everyone's jobs harder, repeatedly shirked away from leadership roles because he felt himself above politics and diplomacy...I mean the man was so bad at leading he was killed by his own people. But anything Dany did was somehow proof of her inadequacy and menace to them despite them being no worse than the atrocities male leaders had been committing for centuries. But there is nothing people hate more than a woman who wants something even if she deserves it. And half the justifications they gave..."he's a war hero!" well so is Dany. "He fought on back of a dragon!" that's LITERALLY Dany's thing...It was hard to watch when it aired and it's equally hard to watch now. Dany was never one of my favorite characters. Maybe Top 15. But I just felt really indignant about the way the writers turned her into a mad woman after all the good she did, after all the growth she had, after her repeatedly proving to be self-aware and patient and willing to listen. It made me feel like all that time I spent with her trudging through Slavers Bay and the Grasslands was just a waste. And they took Greyworm down with her and dishonored Jorah's memory because he believed in her and died for her and so did Misandei. UGH. Sorry, I know I'm ranting. But to this day it just feels so horribly unfair to her. And to all the women who were rooting for her. I figured she wouldn't sit on the throne. I thought she might die. But for her to just become the evil bitch everyone she encountered thought she was from the start...it was a slap in the face. And then I couldn't bring myself to care about the "topped with a bow" ending at all. It was like the Harry Potter epilogue. It felt like fan-fiction. Tyrion conspires to murder the Queen and his "punishment" is becoming hand? WHY DO THEY KEEP REWARDING MEN FOR WANTING TO BE NO HELP AT ALL?? And I don't believe for a second Greyworm was really just like "cool, works for me." -_- Except for Robin Aryn's glow up, I couldn't care less about that ending.

SNBangtan

Same! I remember when I first watched I felt pretty ambivalent about the scene of them picking Bran to be king, and this time I found it so ridiculous I was laughing out loud. 😂

Jenna

Yessss to the point abt Jon’s heritage!! I’m just looking forward to what George will put in the books tbh

kerry berry

Some it was better than I remembered and some of it was worse 😂

Tessa Noble

OMG it's over, I really enjoyed rewatching this series along with you, thank you so much for that!! Your analogy of a deflated balloon is perfect for how many of us felt with the finale. I remember I watched it in a movie theatre and when it ended we all came out so underwhelmed, the energy was a bit hysteric with everyone just wondering what happened. There were soooo many things left open and just pointless. Especially Jon's real lineage, which ended up being meaningless; and it was one of the most hyped plot points since before we found out about it. Like, the reason George R.R. Martin allowed these writers to adapt the series was because he asked them if they knew who Jon's mom was and gave it to them when they answered correctly. And in the end the only thing it did was put some distress between him and Dany. Anyway, the percentage of enjoyment for this show definitely outbalances the negatives. I still hope the author eventually finishes the series so I can get a well paced, coherent ending. Can't wait to watch along whichever show comes next 💜

Mariana

Bravo

Amanda Sargent

I fully agree on everyone’s feelings about these episodes, EXCEPT on Sansa. I think her behavior makes perfect sense when we remember that just she hasn’t followed dany’a journey the way we have! The starks have all learned (the hard way) not to trust ANYONE outside the family, and she is staying true to HER journey by sticking to that. No one who has been through what she has would ever trust someone just because they helped them in a battle - whether it’s Littlefinger or the dragon queen.

ipsssen

Just a couple pre-HOTD notes! 1) I’m so serious when I say taking very intentional notes on the characters names in HOTD, both people and dragons, will probably be necessary. Not only are names grossly reused, but there are at least 3 names if not more that are painfully similar, that unless you are seriously adept at remembering character names and details, it could very well fly over your head. Plus there are a few house names that were not brought up in GoT that will be new. Good luck 😁 2) Something I didn’t know until just yesterday—apparently D&D ruined dragon size as well with Drogon and his brothers. They were a WHOLE lot bigger on GoT than GRRM has them in the books. Mainly due to the fact that they were not even 8 years old, which means they are no where near full grown and mature in the books like they were made out to be in the show. Which also means the comparison to HOTD dragons to GoT show dragons is mute. I’ll gladly send a fun dragon chart with all they’re names and size comparison, if you want! No spoilers! 3) One of the main HOTD cast members uses they/them pronouns! But they don’t show up until the second half of the show! For the sake of going in as blind as possible, I’ll only point them out the episode before they come in! And this would only be importent for when you might be discussing the actor rather than their character. So excited!!!

Jenna

I won’t lie, I felt just as bad on my first watch as I did watching your reactions. I understand your love for this show, especially because I binged it my first time as well. I thought “there is no way this show is THIS good that it had to end as bad as everyone makes it out to seem”. And then…yeah. The seven stages of grief honestly, to mourn what should’ve been. Truly, while a fraction of people like to say all of s8 and maybe s7 aren’t good, I 110% agree with pretty much everything you said. I can still have a good time and vibe with the show up until the last three episodes. Sure you have to put some logic aside for s7-8x4 but it’s a fantasy show and they gave us some fan service interactions. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Im not sure if other comments have already said this, but what I truly think is tragic is the fact that (according to those who read the books), this is still somewhat canonically accurate of what happens with Dany’s story line. Except the author did the thing where he actually develops a character and shows you how they get from point A to point B. Apparently book Dany had a slower, more developed, and “understandable” downfall which led to her no longer being the “hero” she started out as. That’s acceptable for a writer to do. Unfortunately D&D (the show writers) seemed to put everything in fast forward x10 like when I click the fast forward buttons multiple times to get to end credit scenes. And I agree, while D&D were primarily responsible for…whatever that ending is…we know there we’re plenty of HBO people and other execs who had to approve everything. Not one or two people stepped up to oppose this??? Wow. All that being said, yes. Still one of my top three shows if all time! I always enthusiastically recommend GoT and I always will. Because three bad episodes with a disappointing ending don’t mean that the rest of GoT isn’t as ridiculously fantastic as it is! I could ramble on about more details, but everyone has exhausted this conversation for years, at this point! Gonna go watch from the beginning again and not watch those three last episodes unless I am held hostage and forced! 😁 Thanks so much for taking the time do do this series, Michael, and to put all the time and thought into it that you did. I am so glad you loved it like we all do. Cant wait to see what’s next!

Jenna

i wish jaime sacrificed himself for brienne during ep 3 and then arya took his face and killed cersei

A.B

emilia clarkes reactions to questions in interviews always make me laugh 😭 they’re all so obviously like “what the hell is this show at this point”

onlyastarion

u have to watch the cast reading the script for season 8. especially kit haringtons reaction. and the interviews before season 8, they were pretty much telling us it was gonna be bad before it even came out.

A.B

Thank you so much Anna!! So so nice of you to say, really. & Found the channel & the videos!

Michael Beveraggi

😂🤣

Michael Beveraggi

S4 is the best season imo

this is how benioff and weiss became the most hated people in television ever

"I realized it was so long that I was writing my own novel like George 😁!" Well, writing the next book is exactly what George has NOT been doing XD

Nigel

"A Song of Ice and Fire" is the title of George RR Martin's series of books as a whole. The show's title Game of Thrones is based off of the first book's title in the series "A Game of Thrones". The rest of the books have different titles. Also I was about to comment my frustrations with the ending with the show then I realized it was so long that I was writing my own novel like George 😁! Yeah right Tyrion Lannister, Hand to three rulers in his lifetime, son of the mighty Tywin, last surviving Lannister is not mentioned in the history books! What!? And if the unsullied left Westeros who's stopping Jon from leaving the Wall? They wanted him to be exiled and then they dipped for Naath. And people of Westeros are fine with the last living Targaryen to be wasted away in the north and have the least likeable person to be King? Aegon the Conqueror is rolling in his grave right now! And if the North broke away from the Kingdoms as easily as that, what's stopping the other Kingdoms from doing the same? Anyways I'm going to have to binge the first season of HOTD again as therapy after rewatching this crap!

Ersin Günay

I say it's a happy ending for us, Tormund/Jon shippers. xD

Viviena

This easily could have been a 10 season show, and I wish George RR Martin worked on it to the end...

Adam

The death of the dragon Rhaegal in episode 4 was just the saddest and pointless dragon death so far in all of the GOT universe. In the post-episode discussion, the show runner David Benioff said (and I quote…) “Danny kinda forgot about the Iron Fleet and Enron’s forces”… 😐.

John Brady

Michael upon seeing Missandei in the Red Keep: “…they captured her? …like…from the water??” 😂. (Sigh) yep apparently they did…somehow ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

John Brady

A few meme-able lines came out of these last episodes, like… “You are my queen” and “I don’t want it”. Standard lines of dialogue when you can’t figure out how to end a conversation 😂.

John Brady

Thank you for taking us on this journey with you. I watched a lot of GOT reactors, and you definitely stand out. I really enjoyed your thoughtful analysis, compassion and love of the show and its characters. I think you might enjoy a 5 minute video by Zurik 23M, called 'Everything we've been through', as well as 'Westerosi Rhapsody'. See you on the next show.

Anna

Mother Theresa to the Joker real quick 😭

Michael Beveraggi

😢🥲🥲

Michael Beveraggi

I was thinking about you during Jamie/Cersei’s last scene! I thought that was actually pretty powerful

Michael Beveraggi

I understand <3

Michael Beveraggi

You're really lucky to have HOTD to help you cleanse your soul after this disaster of an ending with the last 3 episodes! You don't have to spend 3 years going mentally insane debating what could've been a historical piece of art to a show that was immediately forgotten after it ended despite being such a cultural corner stone.

Ersin Günay

Adding to this, if u watch the history and lore vids in ur own time steer clear of anything related to the dance of dragons! I’m pretty sure the histories and lore for season 5 talks about that, and the dance of dragons is what HotD is based on

I would recommend going into HOD without any prior knowledge, it would be fun to do some cast interviews or do the history of GOT that the cast narrate. They’re pretty informative and just cool in general. It doesn’t spoil HOD either!

Jenny V

I think you could just hop into HoTD whenever without knowing anything else. I can’t speak much to it yet until you watch but I actually think that watching HoTD helped me with understanding GoT.

Adam Geiser

Also I recommend u stay away from anything HotD related even timeline/characters before u watch, it’s a lot more fun if u experience it in the moment! The one thing I will warn about is there’s like 3 major time jumps in the show, I won’t say when but just so u aren’t caught off guard with actor changes!

kerry berry

Going to put off watching this for a bit bc I’m overloaded w school but I’m sooooo hype for u to get into HotD !! I think u will like it a lot

kerry berry

I'm glad that the entirety of the show was an overall positive experience. I truly didn't hate the ending, I just wish they had given the last two seasons more time to flesh everything out. I feel kind of like we got cheated because Dave and Dan were trying to rush so they could go work on Star Wars (which I think fell through anyway). I can see everything panning out the exact way it did, but it felt so rushed compared to the other seasons. I second haunting of hill house!

Amanda M.

also, character assassination in general makes me so upset with this show, but it’s dany in particular who pisses me off lol. for many many reasons !!

onlyastarion

as i’ve rewatched the show a few times, and heard some things about the books (so much so that i’ll be getting them soon since they’re praised as much better) i realize that the quality decline really started after s3 (even if it wasn’t super noticeable on the first watch until s6–s8) since the red wedding was what the showrunners had wanted to adapt.

onlyastarion

Pretty sure you said something about Dany not burning innocent people in 8x3 and I was just like 😬😬😬

Tomasina

yes !!

onlyastarion

100% recommend this!!

OMG THE END

Jenna

omg fast I haven’t finished the last one yet!

Allison V

oh Bev... We've always known this ending would be a hard one for you. I'm personally one of the few who didn't hate the ending in general, but I absolutely understand why most of the fans of the show did. Regardless, I'm happy you enjoyed the ride overall, it truly is a piece of television history and I'm glad we got to go through this with you

Giu Bressani

The last 3 episodes is the only part of the show I don't like at all. The rest of the show ranges from okey too fantastic imo.

IBG_Music

Oh no….I need to mentally prepare myself for the constant character assassination before I can jump in…

Adam Geiser

I’m probably going to put off watching this, only watched this season the one time when it came out and now I’m scared to be disappointed again

R.S

Please watch ted lasso!! The actor who plays the “shame” nun is on the show it’s such an amazing show after so many heavy shows you’ve watched!! X Edit: so many people seem to want you to watch this 😂😂 I miss watching funny shows with you!

Rosielauren xo

There’s a reunion episode with the whole cast it’s so amazing ! There’s also a behind the scenes of them filming the last season!! Please watch both before HOD xx
