The cinematography is breathtaking and the scale brings a sense of immersion that doesn't compare although the music was more complete in the actual musical and yes they left out and added some stuff in the movie, the live vocals plus the acting caliber make up for a lot of it. The movie really opened up this story to a new audience that the musical couldn't have reached and for that, I give it the credit it deserves. I've seen Les Mis on stage and it is amazing and by far superior but on the screen, the movie is the better version. I'm glad am not alone in appreciating what it brought cause I also have heard the hate in the past.

2023-01-31 22:16:38 +0000 UTCIt seems to me like the Les Mis movie gets sooo much hate, and I understand its has some difference from the stage production and the actors aren't all classically trained, but in my opinion it makes it all that much more impressive. These are people who have dedicated their lives to acting, gave a great screen performacne while also showing that they just happen to have been extremely talentend singers as well. I thought it was a great screen production, and agree with you on the live vocals. They did a great job with the whole project, imo.

2023-01-31 21:42:04 +0000 UTCI'm so hyped for more musicals! One of my proudest accomplishments as a parent is having two adult children who love musicals. Moulin Rouge has a special place in my heart. Dreamgirls is so, so good. And Grease is the show that started it all for me.

2023-01-31 21:28:48 +0000 UTCLes Mis is a must watch simply because the vocals are live not lipsynch. That alone makes it a completely different feel, and the raw emotion and the force and exertion of singing those songs live makes it so much more impactful.

Lots of great other options though, can’t wait to see what ends up winning (:
