2024-11-23 15:57:31 +0000 UTCThere's a lot of deep-cut pop culture jokes in these episodes. Madonna made a movie called "Desperately Seeking Susan," which is why Sue has a subconscious need to look for a woman named Susan. Florence Henderson played Mrs. Brady, and her haircut was pretty similar to Sue's. Liza Minnelli, the daughter of Judy Garland and director Vincente Minnelli, and Oscar-winner for Cabaret, was briefly married to David Gest. Rerun was a character on What's Happening, a sitcom from the 70's featuring a mostly black cast. I highly recommend searching "Rerun Dance" on youtube, as Fred Berry was a great dancer. The "Vogue" video was shot for shot, dance move for dance move. I watched the original video over and over as a kid, and it's wild to see Sue and company perfectly recreate it. Also, with closed captions on, I realize how many lyrics I had totally wrong as a kid.

2024-11-23 15:05:04 +0000 UTCThese are both really good episodes for very different reasons. The tribute to Madonna is so great with some amazing performances of iconic songs, and then the next episode they just rip your heart out with one sad ballad after another. The sadness that Kurt feels about not being able to really talk to his dad because they have such different interests really hits home for me. I have brothers who were into the same things as my dad so I know how he feels to see that connection happen, and it does hurt to feel like you're on the outside without a way in, especially when they don't really try to understand the things that you love. And that's enough trauma dumping. So moving on, I really loved the moments between Quinn and Mercedes. I really like both of them as actors and it's nice to see new bonds forming within the group. And of course I agree that Kristen Chenoweth is magnetic. She steals the show and deservedly so. She's a phenomenal talent. I'm sure someone told you this and honestly I may have said it (I can't remember) but Kristen was the original Glinda in Wicked on Broadway, and since you brought her up a couple times, Idina Menzel was the other lead role, Elphaba, in that same production.

2024-11-23 04:14:52 +0000 UTCit's so funny to me to see Will "getting" all the grown women in this show because I didn't see the appeal when I was 14 watching this real-time (which makes sense) but I see it even less 15 years later???? he's just so tacky all the time π
