'Shit! Shit! Shit!'
Ivy felt her heartbeat quicken as the graph showcasing Harley's state became violent.
She immediately administered sedatives and other compounds to calm the maid of mischief down.
'If this continues, she will go into shock!'
She turned to look at Jasper, but he was in a similar state. His body jerked around, and his vitals were all over the graph.
But unlike Harley, who seemed to be in pain, he was handling it better.
'How…'
She observed his stoic face enduring the pain without displaying emotions – something Harley failed at miserably.
"I need to wake them up before they go into a permanent comatose state," Ivy muttered and immediately fetched a syringe filled with a yellowish fluid.
She rushed to Harley and was about to inject her neck with it. However, just as the needle got closer to the maid of mischief's neck, she heard a voice.
"Stop!"
A weird sense of relief washed over her upon hearing the familiar voice.
"Do not inject any foreign substance for the moment."
As she turned around, she saw Jasper huffing while sitting in the chair. He was drenched in sweat and appeared severely dehydrated.
He grabbed his forehead as a sharp pain struck him.
"No, don't move!" Ivy instructed as she rushed towards him. "Your body is weak at the moment, and you need at least a few hours of rest to have your neuromuscular abilities to return to normal."
Saying this, she turned to look at Harley, who, just as Jasper had said, was starting to return to normal. The jerking motion had slowed down, and her vitals returned to normal. Her physical and mental state were at peace, but she had yet to regain her senses.
"How did it go?" Ivy asked Jasper, a bit fearful, knowing that their efforts might not have succeeded.
Her heart sank even lower when she saw Jasper sigh.
"N-No!" Her eyes welled up with tears, as Jasper's look implied that their efforts had been in vain. All her hope was lost, and a sense of grief and pain overtook her.
If Jasper had failed, it meant Harley's mind had been completely destroyed.
"H-Harley…" Her eyes trembled, and her body felt cold at the thought that Jasper had failed. It was a horrifying thought, but she saw Jasper refusing to answer her.
Her grip weakened, and the glass syringe fell to the ground, shattering into pieces. She had lost all her strength and possibly all her happiness.
"Harley…"
She kept repeating her friend's name, as Harley was not just a friend but a part of her family in Gotham.
"Ivy," Jasper sighed and showed a small smile, "You overthink things a lot."
And as he said that, she heard another familiar voice coming from behind.
"Pammy?"
Ivy froze.
She felt an electrifying shock surge through her entire body.
"H-Harley?" Ivy immediately turned back and saw a dazed Harley rubbing her eyes, as if waking from a deep sleep.
Jasper smiled as he witnessed the scene unfolding before his eyes.
Ivy rushed towards Harley, heedless of the glass shards under her feet. In one swift motion, the queen of flora enveloped Harley in a hug, her arms tightly wrapped around the female jester.
"Y-You're back!" Ivy couldn't believe that Harley was back. It felt like a dream, a very happy one.
But it wasn't a dream.
It was very real.
Feeling the warmth, Harley couldn't help but break down in tears as well.
"Y-Yeah," she said in a shaky voice, "I'm back, Pam."
And this time, this happiness was going to last.
The peace and calm that Jasper was enjoying was going to last.
That was his only belief..

[[Eastern Gate, Gotham]]
The Eastern Gate of Gotham acted as a direct passageway through the city's trenches, leading straight into Serenora.
"Those individuals truly didn't place any security around this place!"
One of the six men marching toward Serenora –who also happened to be in charge of the routes– laughed gleefully upon seeing no one guarding the pathway to the district.
"A bustling business area with numerous people working and living there... yet, there's no security," another man chuckled.
"Best of all, this area falls outside Batman's jurisdiction, so he can't intrude," the man in charge of driving explained. "It's a safe haven for us to operate in."
These six men had a specific agenda for heading to Serenora. Their intention was not to start a business or reside there but to hide until a major business deal succeeded.
"The government officials likely know about our operation and that we're moving toward the center of Gotham," the short man keeping watch through the window remarked. "While they won't charge us because they're also hesitant to enter Gotham, it's better for us to be cautious."
The driver scoffed, "Why does it matter? It's not like they can do anything either. They cannot charge here, nor will the heroes walk into this place."
The men laughed as they knew they had found their secret base of operations for the time being.
"Once we complete this deal, we will be able to go our separate ways, and with the money that we have been promised, we will never have to work a single day in our lives ever again!"
There were very few jobs in the world that promised such things, and often, those jobs were not ethical.
And in this case, this was not just unethical; it was a crime.
But how was it a crime?
The men looked to their side, to the corner of the van; there lay seven unconscious girls, each no more than fifteen.
Yes, they were kidnapped and were about to be sold to a very specific person, or more specifically, an organization.
"Eighty million for seven girls still sounds ridiculous to me," one of the kidnappers said, "But seventy of that eighty million is just for this one girl."
As he said that, most of the people inside the van looked at the girl who lay unconscious in the middle of the other girls.
And it was not difficult to notice the girl, as she was possibly the most eye-catching one among the girls.
She was no more than fifteen, possibly younger, and had a childlike charm that melted the hearts of most. Her appearance resembled a doll with flawless snow-white skin, white hair with pink highlights.
The hair looked unnatural, but she did have white hair despite not being an Eskimo or someone with Albinism.
Instead, it was because of a very specific reason.
"She was one tough cookie to catch," the fattest of them all said, "Each time we tried to catch her, she would outsmart us."
The driver scoffed, "She was definitely the most annoying one. And if not for her being physically weaker than you, you might have never caught her."
The fat man nodded, as the way he got a hold of her was by surprising her with a blow to her head that caused her to lose consciousness.
"But it makes sense that they are paying such a huge amount for this girl," the man keeping watch over the girls said. "She is a freak after all."
At that statement, all the men nodded.
"She might not be physically strong, but she is still different from us," the driver said. "She is still a freak, a metahuman."
All the men went silent upon that revelation until the fat man sighed.
"It does not matter. We caught her, and all we have to do is send her to 'those' people."
There was a certain level of fear in his voice when he spoke about those people, but the reason was known only to them.
"As long as we can give these girls to them and never have to contact those people again, I will be happy."
All the men nodded at the statement.
"Besides, this should be the easiest part now," the fat man laughed. "After all, there is no Batman to annoy us in here."
But unknown to the men who had been in hiding and were unaware of the emergence of the new man in Gotham, they were already being watched.
From the moment they came into Serenora's proximity, they were already under surveillance.
And soon, they were going to find out why even Batman refused to enter Serenora.
