Remember in 1x17 when damon goes to rescue Stefan and he kills the owner of the house so he could come inside. So basically if there's no owner there's no need for invitation. Another thing if elena becomes a vampire then klaus would do the same thing he did to katherine, kill all her friends and family so there's no win situation for elena, she's fucked either way. Also fun fact, nina dobrev who plays Katherine and elena is Bulgarian in real life so that's why Katherine can speak Bulgarian.

Elijah wasn't killed after getting a stake in his heart because he's an Original. And Elijah can compell other vampires because he's an Original.
