That's exactly what I thought that pill was. I was saying that I thought it allowed him to discern micro-expressions more clearly, so he effectively becomes a human lie detector. It's why he started with sort of establishing questions that he knew were true, from records, and when they confirmed what he knew to be true, then he had a baseline for them.

Glad you are enjoying it
The pills are some sort of concentration drug, it helps them read their facial expressions, like a human lie detector... the ability to look into the past is just he read their records before coming into the interrogation room.
You asked if someone is a good guy or bad guy..... this show is very good at making everyone to have multiple layers... many times the things you might consider as being a bad person, are things someone did with the best intentions for their own people or with the information they had at the time. its very complex, just like real life :) There are very few "bad" people in the show.... but there are a couple
And don't worry, you don't know things yet because they don't want you to know yet. It will become clear in the next few episodes
This episode was very much about further introducing their characters and their backgrounds. They are about to step on the gas, and the story is about to really start moving full speed ahead.
