There are different versions of the Legion of Superheroes. At first it was Superman who led the team when he was sent into the future like this show, then it was Superboy who was a clone of Superboy, but currently canonically it's Supergirl, has been for awhile. While the CW show does copy a lot from the Superman stories, Supergirl actually has been a part of the Legion of Superheroes long before the show.
