Chapter 6

A red-haired man was sitting at his office table when he saw a notification pop up at the corner of his computer screen.

"Hmm? Trainer update?" He softly said, then he realised that he was only following one trainer which gives him notification quite often.

With a few clicks of his mouse he what was updated on this Trainer page.

As he was a Champion of two regions he had unrestricted access to all information, just like Regional Professors.

"Hoh, not even a week into his journey and he already has the first badge. Fascinating…"

He then checked the recording of the Gym Battle, and a low whistle escaped his lips.

The tactics used in the battle were quite something, the Champion had not expected to see such a thing from a mere ten-year-old!

"I...think this never happened before, not to my memory at least…" The redhead thought to himself.

When was the time when a Pidgey beat Geodude and Onix in a gym battle?

"This kid just got more and more interesting!" The Champion of Kanto and Johto got somewhat pumped up for possible challenges in future, the man does not doubt that this kid will challenge him in not so distant future if he continues with this pace!

Lance was not the only one who was following closely Ray's progress, another Champion was right behind him, as well as, a bunch of Professors from around the world, just waiting for him to do something interesting!

If only Ray realised that most of the followers he has on his Trainers page are the most powerful and influential people in the world...

~~~
After winning the gym battle Ray returned to the Pokemon Centre alongside Brock, Ash and Misty.
Ray's neighbour went to train with his Pikachu the very next moment, something he could approve of.
He only hopes that Ash will take his journey more seriously and maybe become some sort of challenge to Ray in future.
So far only his Sinnoh, Kalos and Alola teams were somewhat impressive, the rest of them were amusing at best.
For a second Ray was thinking of giving some tips to his neighbour, but he decided against that, if he wanted something he should try getting it himself.
That's why he was in his rented room chilling the rest of the day…
Well, more like resting, as he had his laptop out, which was connected to his Pokedex.
He scanned his Pokemon, and now he was comparing them, most importantly their sizes.
It was only around few days since he caught them, yet the difference was already there, the sheer adaptability of a Pokemon is enormous approaching realms of insane.
His plan to raise them is very simple, for example, Rhyhorn and Pidgey used Super Effective moves on each other, which increased their adaptability to take damage from their weaknesses.
But, that was not all! Once they beat each other up, Ray would feed them a very high dose of vitamin-based food.
Normally Pokemon would not eat something extremely bland like vitamin-based stuff, he remembers that himself back on Earth, and that's why he remembered those milkshake drinks with protein.
So, he tested that out by mixing it with their favourite berries and flavours to make it taste much better.
And the result?
It was insane, his Nidoran, Pidgey and Charmander were close to evolving.
Which makes sense, since all of their evolutions are below level 20 in Video Game.
And as far as he knows Anime-verse had some things from game-verse mixed in it.
None of that trade stuff evolution, but still all these Pokemon evolve quite early…
Except for Rhyhorn, his Ground/Rock type is very far from evolution, according to the info he has on hand, the evolution is close to Rhyhorn when he starts to show signs of thinking and taking more complex orders.
Of course, strength has to be up to par too.
After finishing his comparison, Ray went over to check his next destination.
Going to Cerulean City, and passing through Mount Moon, and all the Pokemon in the area.
Nothing there really caught his attention, and he had no interest in spending time in the cave with boring Pokemon.
That's where he thought of hiking through the mountain.
That's more interesting than walking through a dark cave…
Still, hiking would take him much longer… unless he has a Pokemon to help him…
'I guess I will need to catch Onix early after all.' With that idea in mind, Ray was about to close his laptop when he saw several new emails…
"Huh?"
He opened them and his eyes slighly widened, there were two emails from people he had not expected to hear from any time soon.
Lance and Steven send him a short congratulatory message, telling him to keep going…
'These guys have too much time on their hands!' He thought with a twitchy eyebrow.
'Are they tracking my progress to this degree?' He frowned for a second.
After sending a short reply, Ray turned off his laptop and went downstairs to call Professor Oak and his mother.
~~~~~~Next Day~~~~~~

Once morning exercises and eating were done, Ray kept his Charmander out as he intended to use his starter to get some battle experience.

The first thing he did after leaving the Pokemon Centre was to stock up on some medical supplies for the day.

Like Revival Potions and Super Potions, as well as All Healing Potions, he didn't mind spending over 10k on all stuff, since he earned the same amount in his first Gym Match.

After getting all the items he left towards North once more.

Thirty minutes into his walk he finally saw a wild Pokemon and it was a Geodude.

The Rock Pokemon was digging with his hands into the ground.

But, then he noticed Ray.

"Geo Geo!" The Pokemon motioned to attack him.

Ray rolled his eyes, seeing that the Pokemon had quite an arrogant look.

"Fine, Charmander use Metal Claw." He ordered quite casually and his Starter dashed at the Rock/Ground type.

Geodude's eyes widened for a second, The Pokemon was about to do Defence Curl, but Charmander's Metal Claw landed right on target…

Knocking the Pokemon out…

"Heh… you got quite strong Charmander." Ray praised the Lizard Pokemon.

The Fire Starter smiled back at him, and they then continued to walk towards the mountains in front of them.

~~~
Along the way, they encountered more Geodudes and a few Rhyhorns.
Charmander did a quick work out of Geodudes and experienced short battles with Rhyhorns.
That's where the difference showed itself, the first battle between Charmander and Rhyhorn was quite awkward, as Ray's starter had to dodge multiple Headbutts and Horn Attacks.
This time, however, Charmander was assaulted with Metal Claw from the side and multiple Fire Spins made short work from any wild Rhyhorn.
On the second Rhyhorn battle Charmander finally picked up Flamethrower, bringing the Lizard Pokemon even closer to its evolution.
Flamethrower serves as a milestone to the Fire Starter, indicating that the Pokemon is capable of producing enough Fire in its body.
There are 'cheaper' ways of doing that of course, like getting Flamethrower T.M.
In that case, one should see how hot and powerful flames the Pokemon produces, which will serve as a milestone indicator.
After dealing with another Rhyhorn Ray and Charmander took a short break to eat as he spent close to four hours exploring the North of Pewter City.
Soon after Ray and his starter arrived at quite a large cave entrance in a mountain.
The first thing Ray did was inspect the cave entrance.
Very quickly a smile appeared on his face.
"We are on the right track, this is an Onix-made cave."
If this was Mount Silver he would not be that happy, as Onix-made caves occasionally end up as lairs for Tyranitars.
Still, it is possible to spot Tyranitar's cave if one is smart enough…
From scratch marks to partially destroyed mountains that is an indicator that one should scram from that place unless one is actively trying to capture a Tyranitar.
This is not recommended for any trainer, as the Rock/Dark-type is one of the most infamous Pseudo-Legendary Pokemon in the world just beneath Hydreigon in difficulty to raise.
Now, however, with type discovery much more light has been shed on understanding the two Pseudo-Legendaries.
"Let's go Charmander, we are on the right track," Ray said to his Starter as they entered the cave.
Soon, as they were getting deeper into the cave it started to get dark, but Charmander was provided with some light thanks to its tail, Even then Ray pulled out his headband with a flashlight, and he came prepared after all.
Ray soon spotted some Sandshrew, but they quickly ran away when they spotted him and Charmander.
The Mouse Pokemon is quite well known for being around in places like these, not to mention all the Zubats which made the ceiling of the cave their home.
Ray made sure not to look at the ceiling as it was a sure way to make the Bat Pokemon attack him in a swarm, thanks to his flashlight.
As he progressed deeper into the cave he finally felt something similar to vibrations, indicating that something large was moving not far from his location.
"Let's go Charmander, one of them is close by!" Ray motioned for his starter to quickly move along with him.
Soon enough they ended up in a clearing with multiple tunnels going in different directions…
If he can guess these tunnels expand throughout the whole mountainside.
*Roar*
Hearing a familiar roar of Onix, Ray quickly lowered his view and took off the headband.
He still somewhat was able to see in the cave, some natural crystal-like structures gave off light, enough to see what was going on…
Ray's eyes slightly widened when he saw two Onixes duking out…
'From the amount of stone segments they have these two are quite young…'
'Let's see if I can see which one of these has Rock Head…'
'Usually, the ones with Rock Head are more…wild…' He observed a very basic battle between Onixes.
It was nothing fascinating, exchanges like these are very much recorded before, it's usually how turf battles are done.
These battles come from the simple fact that once Onix disappears, mostly because a Pokemon Trainer captures it, a new area opens for other Onix to expand or take over.
Still, not all Onixes are territorial…
Eventually, after a couple more Headbutts and several…
'Oh, is that Rage?' Ray narrowed his eyes as he saw one Onix use that.
Then his eyes slightly widened when he saw something he wanted to see from one of these.
'Double Edge…'
A move with recoil damage, which can be negated if the Pokemon has Rock Head ability.
Ray quickly unclipped his Nidoran Pokeball, he decided to leave Rhyhorn in case there was more trouble since Nidoran and Charmander were close to evolution.
He silently released his Poison Pin Pokemon.
"Guys, we going to capture those two Onixes, so prepare for a battle." The Pokemon Trainer seriously said to the two of his Pokemon, both slowly nodded and waited for the right moment.
"On my mark…"
Both of them nodded.
"Charmander use Flamethrower! And Nidoran use Toxic!" Ray's words snapped the battling Onixes and they looked at the source of the human voice.
Instead of seeing a human, they saw incoming mixed flames with poison.
The attacks rammed into one Onix then it moved to the next one, poisoning and damaging the Rock Snake Pokemon.
Both Rock/Ground types quickly recoiled from the attack and got quite angry at this intrusion.
**Angry Roar**
One of the Onix charged in using Rage and the other one used Double Edge.
"Dodge to side you two, then counter with Metal Claw and Double Kick respectively!"
The Onixes' attacks were quite slow compared with their training and they were able quite easily to dodge, then they counter-attacked with Super Effective moves.
Making both Rock Snake Pokemon collide into each other…
Making them fight each other again…
Ray used this and commanded his Charmander to use Flamethrower once more on the Rock Snake Pokemon.
Both Rock/Ground groaned from pain then poison kicked in increasing the damage.
One of the Onixes growled with anger and slammed its tail into the ground sending a bunch of rocks flying into its attacker…
Still, the attack was used with little to no consideration to its surroundings as one of the rocks slammed into another Onix head, while Charmander quickly destroyed the Incoming rocks with Metal Claw.
The other Onix was not that lucky as it was not expecting an attack from its 'partner' that soon!
So, it was quite pissed and retaliated with Double Edge knocking the fellow Onix out.
Ray shook his head internally, he was not expecting such 'help' he should do this more often…
"Nidoran, Charmander finish him off with Metal Claw and Double Kick!"
