VTuber Debut | November 2021 Update

Ack! Almost missed the Patreon update again! It always slips my mind when I'm really busy working on the channel, which ironically ends up being the times that I have the most to say. Last month, I spent a load of time getting a video on Slime Isekai and Anime Anthologies complete. Neither of them did particularly well in views, but I'm happy that I actually managed to get them finished.

I always feel that because of the time it takes to make a video, I'm always a little bit behind of the conversations. My Anime Anthologies video came out a month after Star Wars Visions, and it already felt like nobody was really talking about it anymore, which I found a bit disappointing. Even so, I probably should have titled it something like "STAR WARS ANIME GOOD?", but I wanted it to be more of a celebration of anime anthologies as a format than anything else. I've never been particularly good at clickbait...

The next videos on the channel are Breaking Down Mushoku Tensei's Incredible Animation, which will be out in a couple of days, and Anime: The Broken Industry.

Anime: The Broken Industry is actually a response to a video I did a few years ago called Anime: The Global Medium. It was an optimistic video at a time where anime art, business, and viewership was getting dramatically more global. But, of course, there've been plenty of ramifications that I didn't foresee at the time.

Since this is a response video, I needed a facecam, but I don't really like doing that, so I've actually had a brand new original Vtuber design and model commissioned that I'll be revealing soon. It is both exactly what you expect and unexpected at the same time. Look forward to it!

Thanks! It's not something that I wanted to watch either, so having Kim do all the research was best of both worlds

I really liked that Mushoku Tensei video. I wasn't gonna watch that thing ever, so getting to enjoy some of the nice cuts while hearing about the production was pretty much as good as I'm gonna get

Great news, waiting for the mushoku tensei video! It has mindblowing production values, yet no one has analyzed it on an animation/production level. As for "animation as a broken medium", you probably shouldn't be too pessimistic. The industry is still expanding rapidly, and the 2020 industry report mentions the industry workers are not pessimistic about their future, given the rising production budgets and wages. There are still severe issues though, like revenue distribution being slanted towards distribution channels and producers, rather than the studios themselves.
