Some more News and General Improvement Poll!

Hi Folks, recently the artists at the Worlds over Run studio decided to go separate ways, I 've taken the opportunity to reconnect at work with Chris Hershberger who helped me with the Dire Chicken promo model we released on "Roads to Adventure." So far I had him paint up some models and map out a Carrion Crawler for an Underdark wagon I want to make. It will be a couple months for me to figure out the cost/benefit of bringing in some more talent but I am hopeful that it will at least bring some irregular  content to the Patreon.

I'm working on getting some of next months releases painted up. I finished the Wine Press and notice boards. I also have the cesspit almost ready for flocking and resin.

As most of you know, I look to you to help me with direction. I need to call on your insight once more as I feel it is a good time for some honest self-assessment here on the Patreon. I've noticed the potential for growth getting a bit tighter. I know a lot of that is out of my control, with the larger events of the world and also specifically with the increased competition and globalization in the 3d scene. Putting aside the things I can't control or will not, I'd like to ask folks to vote for 1-3 items below. I know I can't please everyone, I'm mostly just hunting for blind spots, thanks for your consideration.

Comments

Yeah I had a look around, it looks thin on the chances of that. Peasants working are in short supply, I'll have to keep hunting. Hard to find quality sculpts past kitschy fat cooks and grim blacksmiths.

It might be a good cross promotion opportunity. If you find an artist with a fitting trade figure, you could do a swap for one of your terrain pieces. Current members would get a free promo figure, but future supporters could have a record of where to find an appropriate figure.

Thanks Mark, yeah the trades was all I was really thinking about and maybe a nice OSR view on some basic humanoids. I had just started getting some modeling skills when I quit doing figures and switched over. But yes, the time issue is no good. I don't have the library to knock out 2 characters a day.

Thanks mark, I appreciate the input:)

Those thing look large, I don't know much about garden gnomes. do garden gnomes live in tiny houses or would they be like 3 foot mushroom homes?

There are plenty of character & warfare figures, and you don't need to dilute your time with figure distractions, but if you grow to the point of taking on another person it might be nice if they could do a few trade folk to occupy your trade settings. There's not a lot in the way of miller's and cobblers etc. On the market to bring life to the scenes.

Woelore

I think mixing FDM & Resin. Is fine, but a model should be "complete" in FDM with the resin adding an addition level of detail that is optional. Like a wall with a Door in FDM might come with a basic slab door, but optional doors might be resin to provide different kinds of materials, portholes, and hardware.

Woelore

Have you thought of doing a set of buildings for Will Sutton’s GuardenGnomes? Think there could be some great synergy there.

you can also just email or share images with our email gamescape3d@gmail.com here is our discord join link https://discord.gg/ZZurBHQY2x

we have discord, I had a CS group but I don't know how to manage it anymore, FB changes everything all the time. If you want to join and post to there I can share it to our page:) https://www.facebook.com/groups/openpeg I'll have to approve you I think, I tried to change that but the instructions don't make any sense. I guess they have made FB safe from me?

Thanks everyone for the input. I'll make some adjustments to my plans for next month,. It looks like folks may be ready for me to get back to a more focused structure on the Patreon, both literally and thematically. Looks like there is a tug of war between the FDM and Resin folks. Not sure how to reconcile "want more resin scatter" vs "to many resin prints" but I know from a few messages I've gotten on the side that the FDM printers are feeling a little more slighted then the resin crowd , which I expected. It looks like everyone is mostly okay with items that would indicate a critical issue. Glad to see some folks hungry for general landscape as it has been on my mind a bit more than usual. Thanks for all the feedback and keep it coming!

Do you have a FB group somewhere? I still have my Mordheim game setup from the last get together.

Charles Feduke

Thanks for the feedback Charles, would love to see some pictures of your boards if that is posted somewhere. I'm sure many others would too. I'll keep the solid build thing in mind and try to add to that a bit each month. Thanks for the suggestion and support!

Thanks for your input Lisa, and for your support over the years:)

Something Pinyo (Dark Realms) started doing last month - that you sort of did with the Solid Body Buildings - was provide a single fully joined STL model of each release. This means that such single STLs can be rescaled down to 24% and printed for 10mm games such as Warmaster. Of course this really only makes sense for certain types of models, like buildings and building ruins.

Charles Feduke

Absolutely love your stuff. I use a combination of your work, Printable Scenery, and Dark Realms to create fairly massive Mordheim locations. I also used your cathedral facade in a display board for a Kings of War army I created and got a lot of positive comments from fellow players. This is easily one of the best bang for the buck terrain Patreons and you keep my FDM printers running every day of the week.

Charles Feduke

I like what you are doing I love terrain and you are creating things nobody else is doing I want new and different not more Tudor style houses lol keep up the great work

Lisa Kellogg

A thanks for reminding me about Siocast, I need to get that on the wish list at my day job. Thanks for the support!

Thanks Dave, it is not being made somewhere else. someone mentioned mixing STL minis and our stuff together, it seemed to work well. I try to look over once and a while so I don't overlap them much. I've noticed there is a lot of regular houses all the sudden, everybody is kickstarting the mega village of so-and-so. Still there is basic things I haven't done that I wouldn't mind making, a tower of reasonable size, a watermill, a lighthouse, a well, a moated apothecary with an ajoined island garden/dungeon, and that's without even getting into versions for elves and halflings. But probably the time has past for making a timber frame townhome. etc. Thanks for the support:)

Thanks for the comment Brian, I appreciate the input:)

Yes our stuff pairs up pretty good. Lord Gosumba brought them on as sponsors for his twitch, I Like seeing our stuff on the same board:)

I like both Resin and FDM printing (I dream of Siocast :D), I like your work, keep on creating in what you believe in.

For what it's worth (exactly one voice in the cacophony): 1. i think you're filling a void with your specialised content that isn't available elsewhere (not that i'm actively looking for it elsewhere admittedly). There is an overwhelming variety of options out there for generic houses. 2. even though I don't often find the time to print many of the designs your patreon is so reasonably priced I don't feel the need to cancel it just because i'm not printing them...one day...one day. 3. keep doing what you're doing :-)

Dave Binny

I find your stuff sets the baseline for the scene … example: mine hardware … with the infrastructure in hand I can find the figures (miners & horrible things that live/hide in mines) to populate the mine from any number of vendors. I have Infinite Dimensions scriptorium but you have provided the “infrastructure” with the paper mill set.

Cristian Cooney

Thanks Cristian, will do!

Thanks Cristian, I'll keep it on standby for special models. I'd noticed that STL Miniatures tends to do trades people with sets and was wondering if that adds much. I'm capable but it is a big time suck to switch gears into that. I don't have any asset library to pull from. Everything would have to be from ground zero. Yeah i've never talked to Ian about weather he is excited to do figures. I think it kind of got to the point where everyone was doing 10 buildings and 100 figures on kickstarter and everyone just started doing it because they wanted to or they felt like they had to.

Thanks Dave!, I'll keep them coming:)

I really like that when I look at what you make its adding to my terrain and environments. You have from my perspective one of the better sets of terrain for patreon/etc. Keep up the good work.

Brian Etty

I really like your research to make well thought out pieces that do not exist in the STL world yet ... smelter, wooden mine tracks, water sluices, paper factory, cheese factory, etc. None of these pieces were on my list but I'm reprioritizing print to incorporate them into my current and future tables. KEEP IT UP.

Cristian Cooney

Stay away from figures unless it is the horses/bulls etc. Ron is right, way too much competition with great sculpts (wish Lovecraft gave up figures and focused on terrain).

Cristian Cooney

I am really pleased with the specificity and uniqueness of recent releases. Wine presses, mine equipment, etc. It's the sort of thing that can really flesh out the tabletop and/or dioramas.
