Film Review - Ford Vs Ferrari

Comments

I can't recall if it was Drew or Danny who brought it up but I was so glad to hear I wasn't the only one who was 100% bothered by the 100mph tracking shot from the very fake TV footage. Also, the station wagon scene with his wife just had me scowling at the screen going "WHO THOUGHT THIS WAS A GOOD SCENE FOR THIS MOVIE?!" Ferrari was hardly part of the movie. The speed-racer / rear-projection look of the Ferrari cars and their drivers was horrible. I really disliked how the car just... APPEARED. The racing physics looked wrong. The CGI pretty bad. I rolled my eyes every time they gear shifted for dramatic effect. I plain didn't like the movie. I made an end-of-the-year movies list for 2019 and out of the 25 movies I saw from 2019 I placed it #24, only above Hobbs & Shaw. I laughed when it was nominated for best picture and not Uncut Gems. Favorite movie was Parasite, so I got to feel good this year.

Great listen. I liked the movie and loved (and agreed with a lot of) the critiques and thoughts y'all had for it. I think the Best Picture nomination for this is less baffling when you consider what Rob mentions earlier which is that this is a dad-ass dad movie, which I'm 100% convinced is something the old white dudes at the academy will just eat up

During the factoid segment at the end of the episode, Drew mentions Dan Gurney. I think it's worth adding that Dan Gurney is the reason that drivers spray champagne on the podium. He spontaneously did it when he won Le Mans in 1967.

FYI, Rob is NOT WRONG about Speed Racer. It's a fantastic, fantastical film.
