[MC POV]
“Huu…”
“Oppa, good luck on your first day!”
“If it gets overwhelming, make sure to tell me.”
“Master, I’m sure you’ll do great!”
Before leaving for work, I stood in the lobby dressed in my suit. Yeonji, my mother-in-law, and Auntie Ahjeong were all there, giving me their warm send-offs.
“I’ll be fine. Yeonhee’s is with me.”
Yeonhee, ever calm and composed, was heading to work with me since we worked at the same company.
“Don’t worry, everyone… I’ll be back.”
“Have a good day, Oppa~”
“Take care, master.”
“Have a good day, Master.”
After their farewells, I got into the car. Yeonhee was driving, and I sat beside her.
I’d been nervous during the interview, but it had ended far more anticlimactically than I expected. Since everyone probably already knew I was a parachute hire, they didn’t bother with too many questions. Just a light greeting, a few formalities, and that was it.
I passed without issue, and now my first day had arrived.
“You don’t need to be nervous. If anyone tries to bother you, I’ll handle it.”
“Yeah… but don’t ‘handle’ them.”
I had seen her fire the security guard with just a few words. I didn’t want someone to lose their job over me.
‘There might be people who recognize me…’
I’d visited the company a few times with Yeonhee before getting hired. Some employees might remember seeing me.
“Huu… huu…”
Despite trying to calm myself, the tension wasn’t going away. My chest felt heavy, and my thoughts kept racing.
When I was working as a delivery driver, I was always alone. My job didn’t require complicated thinking or constant social interaction. But now, I’d be working with a team—something entirely new for me.
‘Will they look down on me for being a parachute hire?’
People usually don’t look favorably on someone who gets into a big company through connections. I was mentally preparing myself for cold shoulders or passive hostility.
“You still seem nervous.”
“Well… this is my first time wearing a suit like this… Hahaha.”
Yeonhee was younger than me but had already established herself at the company. Her abilities were widely recognized, so no one could look down on her.
She might also be seen as a parachute hire, but her skills made that irrelevant. She didn’t care about what others thought, and frankly, no one dared challenge her.
But I was different. I needed to prove myself—to show I was capable and deserving.
I might never reach Yeonhee’s level, but I wanted to do well enough not to disappoint anyone. Not my mother-in-law, not the chairman, and certainly not Yeonhee.
‘I also want to prove myself to Yeonji… and Sujeong too.’
They might say they don’t care, but I still felt like a burden, being unemployed. This job was a way to fix that. A way to save face.
“Should we stop to get a calming pill?”
“Hm… alright, I’ll park over there.”
Seeing how tense I was, Yeonhee pulled into a nearby parking lot so I could go buy something to calm my nerves.
“I’ll run in and—Yeonhee?”
Click!!
Just as I was about to open the door, she locked it.
“I’ll help you relax.”
Enjoy!!
