Defining Duke, Episode 83 | Is PlayStation "Scared" Of Xbox Getting Call Of Duty?

For many, this episode's title will seem like a cheap attempt at console war bait, but fret not for it is a legitimate question worth asking. Thanks to the Brazilian government, we have a very transparent view of a rare interaction between PlayStation and Xbox where the two wage a war of their own on the value of exclusivity. The subject matter is Call Of Duty and PlayStation underlines the very scary potential of that big of a game being mixed with day one Game Pass. Matty and Cog dig deep into this delicate subject as it's rare to see shots fired from either side in such a manner.

To the guy who wrote in about an FPS story driven title. Play Wolfenstein: New Colossus

No word of a lie, I used to eat sticks of butter as a child of the 80's. My parents eventually had to stop taking me to the grocery store,as I would steal bars from the fridge and eat them right there. Salted, of course.

I think it’s more about the fact that cod makes so much money and PlayStation doesn’t have a studio that can make a really good first person game until they bought bungie.

I seriously don't like how Playstation disrespected all their studios by saying nothing will ever rival it. Their 1st party games are top tier games so downgrading everyone seems harsh.

Playing Like a Dragon for the first time (on chapter 6), and the story is heating up! Looking forward to seeing what Matty thinks eventually

Also, to answer the question on a driver rating in addition to a sportsmanship rating is essentially what is in place in GT7 and in some Sims too. You have two ratings that the game will utilize to match make you accordingly based on your skill and your racing etiquette. Your driver rating will increase as you are successful on the tack, putting you with more skilled racers. Your sportsmanship rating will increase as you follow track requirements, avoid contact, avoid penalties, don’t take illegal maneuvers, etc. drivers that do these things will effectively be relegated to matchmaking with other drivers that don’t drive with proper race etiquette and know how. Drivers that want to drive with drivers that are more experienced and competent will match make with each other. It just filters that uninitiated and shit tier drivers from the serious and good ones.

Gran Turismo doesn’t really have something at the level of what Turn10 described here. As a hardcore fan of both GT and Forza Motorsport, this is big news and something I would love to see actually come to GT7. GT7’s competitive multiplayer is structured very differently and is far from a race weekend set up. It has “Daily Races in Sport Mode which are a new set of 3 class based races, each on a specific track that rotate out every week. You can post qualifying times in between jumping into the race, but you will be focusing on those same 3 races and tracks until it cycles out to new dailies the next week. I think this system works fine, although the players are asking that they expand the number of races that rotate out for sport mode per week. It does allow players to just keep jumping into a race over and over again quickly. A full race weekend experience on the other hand is a much more involved and segmented process that the player will take part in. If it’s truly going to follow a real schedule and structure of say F1, then that means you would be participating in chunks over the course of several days with the 3rd day being the day you actually race. With a lot of FM players not inherently being serious real world Motorsport fans, I’m not sure how they implement this in a way that isn’t going to drive a large number of their players crazy while at the same time being something that is immensely satisfying to us niche hardcore racing fans. Maybe they will be truncating the experience of a weekend into something you finish in the matter of an hour, give or take. Im also curious to see how close the structure is to real life. The practice day is general about dialing and balancing the cars for the track within regulation requirements, managing things like your tire allotment for the weekend, etc. The practice day is pretty huge and important, but also a little too extra for an average racing game player. I’m very excited for Forza Motorsport even though I absolutely love GT7 and still personally think the fidelity in GT7 looks a little more natural and life like than what we’ve seen so far of FM. Something about the visuals in FM’s gameplay reveal was a little too oversaturated and high contrast, making it look like someone trying to sell you on “fidelity” by turning all the dials well beyond what things look like naturally. What excites me most is that FM is bound to be more up to date on current FIA car groups such as GT3, prototype, etc. We are all begging Polyphony to bring in the more current GT3, etc cars because the game launched with the newest GT3s and prototype class cars being 2015-2018.

Man no one has shown me how gamepass is profitable. No person/ spreadsheet/interview/etc. has shown me, in numbers not in corporate speak, the hard facts no one has show Gamepass is financially stable due to Microsoft having so much money to keep injecting into that service.
